Singleton is indeed still enrolled at PSU

Is anybody really surprised? RBs are the one position where sticking around for an extra year is basically always detrimental. The window to earn money in the league is so small, go get it before you age out or the body breaks down.

I'd obviously want Singleton to stay over Allen ... but the reason I would prefer that is the reason Singleton was more likely to leave for the NFL than Allen.

He'll be a good back in the NFL.

Allen needs to completely overhaul himself and gain speed and mobility if he's going to be much more than a pseudo-fullback at the next level.

I'm hoping Katron stays, gets an NIL raise, and shows what he can do as a featured back. But with the way we recruit and develop RBs and our Veteran and Returning Offensive Line, I think we'll be fine either way.

we are good with backs...as stated by many..the overall lack of WR production over the last 4 years is alarming...thats where we need to beef up..

I want them both to come back and help us make another run for a Natty. Allen looked a lot quicker and faster once he was healthy. IMO not much improvement needed there. But if he could be a little quicker that wouldn't hurt.

I love Kaytron as well, but I still like a split back thunder and lightning setup. We have some young guys to be that lightning.

I doubt he could raise his stock anymore so I guess he should go get his money and big money it will be for a RB in the draft.
He's the 9th rated RB but I agree that another year might not do much to improve is draft position. It probably depends on how much he can earn by staying at PSU and if he want's to continue his education.

Don’t know who will be at RB next year, but I do know that next years O-Line will be better and deeper than this year…..and they were very good this year, despite injuries. — So it’s plausible Singleton ( and others) see a potential real increase in production ( even knowing he had >1000 yards this year), along with very good NIL. — It ain’t bad to be BMOC for a year vs rookie Puke in the NFL making similar money….just sayin.
—It’s also probably not lost on the players, that most of OSU ‘s draft eligible players returned this year, and this has resulted in a National championship game….and likely win.

I read that Singleton could be a late 2nd or early 3rd round pick as the #9 RB. That's roughly $6 million in salary. It would be difficult for PSU to match that.

I sort of hope Singleton leaves and Allen stays because that would free up $$$ needed to attract and retain other players. I think (hope) Allen, Wallace, Martin, and Smith could be a very good RB group.

They could be--I'd expect to add a veteran back though
Hopefully slightly better than Trey Potts in 2023

????? you mean Allar? I kinda doubt our former DC needs more speed and mobility.

Let Nick play WR half the time. Upgrade for us. Makes him more attractive in draft if he can run routes and make tough catches. Same for Martin?

That's 6 million over 4 years, matching that on a per-year basis shouldn't be difficult if they wanted to, especially with revenue sharing on the horizon.

That $6M (ish) is over 4 years total. It's not $6M for each of 4 years - it'd be $1.5M each year, in that instance. There's a signing bonus component, so the actual salary each year is less than that ... and I'm not sure how much of a 2nd, 3rd (and beyond) draft pick's salary is guaranteed.

In the NFL, it's all about the 2nd contract. If money is the driver, he has to go. RBs, especially, need to reach that 2nd contract at the earliest possible age

Joe made Curt Warner extra millions by throwing the football to him out of the slot a lot his SR year.

My grandson said…….
“I think he may have graduated so there may have been a disconnect from his undergrad to his graduate”
Turns out Singleton is returning and he hopes to graduate this fall.

I have mixed feelings. Of course I'd like to have him back. It's just a matter of how we spend limited dollars (NIL + Salary). Will the $$$ going to Singleton limit out ability to fill key positions with top level players?

Maybe we see a lot more of Singleton spread out wide to boost his draft stock as a 3-down back.

We aren't adding top level guys. This is probably our best bet. We'll see what RBs leave because of it.
