So....home improvement question....

anyone ever use Bathfitters to redo the bathtub? I see their ads on TV and am curious what experiences people may have had.
I did about 7 year ago - not really happy with the results. The insert started to detach from the tile behind after a few years and I have to reseal around the base every year since it tends to separate from the base at the joint and the silicone caulk splits and a gap opens up. I am planning on having it ripped out and re-tiled in the future.

It's like putting breast implants in a 70 year old. Ante up the money and get it redone the right way. One of the few projects you can recoup in a resale is a premium bathroom.

Underwhelmed.

I would think the level of happiness would be inversely proportional to your pickiness and/or income level. Ro you are an engineer and by extension(and multiple sig pics) anal. Also, I'd guess your condo is above $200k. I think finding a buyer would be challenging without a premium level master bath.
One other item worth considering. What Would Fish Do. I would gather you are doing well in your 401k. Diversify your retirement assets by adding real estate . Consider renting your current place as is, and buying another unit. Interests rates are still crazy low, and the stock market may be on the high side.

My mother in-law lives alone and only has one small, outdated bathroom. A couple years ago she asked me to help her figure out her bathroom remodel. She mentioned just having Bathfitter come do the tub and she'd be happy. I set the appointment up and the guy came to give us information and an estimate. The salesmen was a PSU grad by the way. The product looked decent for what it is. It appeared to be very durable and well made. Then he gave the quote. Just for them to lay a new tub and replace the surround was well over $6,000. If you only have one bathroom and need a new tub in one day, this might be the way to go. But... I found a contractor that was really slow over that winter. He and one of his guys gutted and replaced the entire bathroom for under $8,000. She had to stay with us for a week because that is how long it took them to do it. She didnt do any high end finishes, but she got and entirely brand new bathroom for almost the same price.

If you're recoating a porcelain bathtub it works great. Some older styles just have a certain charm to them that you don't want to lose, and recoating can help you recapture that. If you extend it to tile, it just looks like a really high quality paint job. If you're just putting a new plastic enclosure over an existing set up, there's only so much you can do. Redoing a bathroom the right way is actually surprisingly easy. Without more detail, we're all just speculating though about the current state of yours, and what you're hoping to achieve.

Had them come in and do an estimate for me. WAAYYYYY to expensive.
Found a guy on Angies List to tile the entire area, did a great job and about 1/4 of the price.

I redid one of our bathrooms about 8 years ago myself. Everything except the existing tub, which was an outdated color. My decision was remove/replace, paint, or have Bathfitters mold a new acrylic shell to adhere over the tub. I chose Bathfitters, which did an excellent job. No complaints since. I tiled the walls surrounding the tub instead of having Bathfitters cover them, which in my opinion looks kind of cheap. The only caution is not to use abrasive cleaners.
