So is Shakur moving back up to 97 or......................

AB is a stud, and it shouldn't surprise me that he beat Shak, but it still made me do the Jack Nicholson Yes gif.

No way does Beard's shirt get pulled if Shak is still healthy, and Conel the go to at 197. I don't see how anyone can't see this as other than Conel's days as the starter at 197 are winding down. Shak will be our starter at 197 mid-January and I suspect Cael thought it better to give Aaron some December reps than wait for the two-fer lineup change next month.

Cael knows full well how long it takes to get back to AA I form, and despite some improvement Conel is a long way off (if ever) to recapturing the lightning be in a bottle March that is now over 20 months in the rear view mirror.

I suspect the toughest part of the decision was which shirt to pull, and after yesterday I am 1000% convinced.

I agree that removing Brooks shirt makes it clear that he likes Brooks-Shak better than Shak-Beard. He still has the option of pulling Beard's as well, if Shak can't get/stay healthy. Pulling Beard's shirt shows that he is all in to bring another one home. I love Conel as a person. We all wanted it to work out, but, it's just not going to. I'm not saying he can't improve, he can and will, but, it's going to be Shak's job when he is ready.

Your reading comprehension really sucks Deuchius Rex - what I said is that Brooks is now the starter at 184 (that's a FACT genius, not speculation on my part). Given that FACT, he should have at least made the ASU trip and would have therefore been available.
Now, now Francine. My reading comprehension is fine. Our communication failure is directly related to your obvious inability to understand the words you are using. Keep it more simple. Single syllable words would likely work better for you. Crazy hawks from HR are much more welcome than idiot football board clowns.

CJFisJoePaII "Additionally, given some of the gassing issues SR has had when he cuts weight (and KC's underwhelming performances against Navy and in multiple matches at Army Tourney) I'm sure CS was thinking of going with Brooks at 84 and SR at 97 well before ASU...and I'm sure he thought about taking Brooks on trip to keep his options open and be able to make a "meet-time" decision".... Maybe you feel differently - that's cool if so.[/QUOTE]

You think Cael knew Shak was his 97 well before ASU..... YET shak weighed in at 184 for the ASU dual meet. If Cael knew Shak was in fact his 97 well before the ASU match then he wouldnt allow his wrestler to cut weight. Conel has also been injury prone so far this year. every match he has been getting dinged up. the guy was out of wrestling for a year, it takes some people longer than others. maybe Cael and Conel had a discussion behind the scenes.

I actually liked the improvement I saw in Conel. I figured the 3rd period would be his killer . . . but what I saw before that was certainly an improvement. He was actually changing levels and getting a leg at will. Sure, he couldn't finish, but compare this to the match vs. Navy. Night and day.

Is the trajectory for real, and rapid enough? Maybe not, and maybe Rasheed will be the guy. But it makes a ton of sense to keep Conel improving and working for the spot.
Yes, I thought Jakobsen was stalling in the first just to get KC when he was tired. But his tank seemed to be much better in this match.

Comical, I wrestled with and against multiple parties who would record multiple NCAA Individual Championships - two of whom would wrestle for the US National Team at the World Championships / Olympics....but yea, I know nothing about wrestling. Good Lord....

I love pulling the shirt now. I think AB can get to the finals. Now when will we find out about 197. Mid January ? Or sooner. ?
If it is shak, he will need to get some of that rust off so the sooner the better

I want shak to go out on top. If he didn’t get injured last year he would have been top 4

I have no idea if you know anything about wrestling or not. What is obvious is you apparently lack certain comprehension skills when understanding the meaning of the words you have written.
Crazy HR hawks are still more welcome than idiot football board dudes. My guess is you have potential to contribute here as a Penn State and/or wrestling fan. However, your start isn't impressive.

That's nice and all, but our boy Grip was recruited by D1 schools for 3 sports, and scaled Everest without Sherpas. He's the stud in these parts.

RE: Beard perspective. Greg Bulsak pinned Orndorff in the first round at Cliff Keen....then lost 9-8 to Norfleet. Bulsak then registered 3 pins and a decision on the back side. Certainly not a pushover.

Again, reading comprehension....as I've said in multiple posts, CS had to be considering Brooks at 84 and SR at 97 given KC's lackluster performance in multiple matches at Navy and Army Tourney and.....Brooks being the absolute best 84 we have (as we now know for a FACT). Never said CS had made the final decision at re AB and SR at 84 & 97 prior to ASU - merely said he had to be thinking of it as a real possibility given what we now know. Taking AB to ASU would have left CS maximum flexibility re: lineup options up to match-time of 84....

You seem to be suggesting that he never even thought about starting AB at 84 until last week....which is farcical imho given what we now know about what AB and KC were showing in the room.

You know as someone who wrestled with D1 national champs and world/Olympic team members as well as your vast knowledge for the sport and strategic coaching thought process, it’s baffling how penn state overlooked as the new head coach all those years ago and hired Cael...I’m sure you wouldn’t have punted and we’d continue to have a more impressive streak going right now like national titles than the dual streak we just lost

Yea, that's what I said. LMAO

Some of you Richards are quite adept at putting words into other's post that they never stated to fit your endless pedantic lecturing agenda.....but not much else. Go figure.

You're starting to feel my pain. This thread is hysterical.

You've got no problem with the ASU loss, but Cael was thinking about starting Brooks and didn't, and that was the wrong decision.

Jefe you are over the top on this one. Cael makes very few if any 'wrong' decisions and I don't think the ASU dual was one of them. We were probably a skin check away from keeping the streak alive not to mention Verk not taking care of business. A healthy Berge brings us home as well.

We were also two matches away of where we stand today on addressing Conel's progress, and had he delivered we wouldn't have lost the dual either. Had Conel came out and served up a 4 point victory I doubt Brook's shirt gets pulled this week.

Streaks are great but at the end of the day anything longer than maybe 20 matches has elements of luck involved as the longer the streak goes the more risk to there will be an injury that details you. We continued our streak by the skin of our teeth when Nolf was out.

So we lost some bragging rights with Iowa - whoop di do.

Pulling a shirt is not a small thing and Cael made a sound decision with the info he had at hand at to the time.

Anyone can arm chair quarterback a week or two later, but dissing Cael by saying his call was 'wrong' is way over the line.

I was being sarcastic.

I lost to two World gold medalists back to back in the same tournament. And I can't figure out WTF it matters to the discussion, as relates to what Sanderson decided when.

The internet is better than a bar room for inflating physical credentials in a verbal/intellectual fight

Really? Never said I won anything of note - even locally. But I did wrestle with, and against, some pretty good wrestlers in a very strong wrestling community. The topic was whether I know anything about wrestling I believe.

I don't think anyone said you know nothing about wrestling. That said, I know everything there is to know about using a toilet, but it still doesn't make me a plumber.
