So who the hell got their sorry ass suspended for the RB?

jeez. Only the most important game in maybe a decade and some of the team violates rules? Anyone know who we lose for the game?

Here is the important part of that piece and why you need to wait several hours:

While Franklin isn’t scheduled to be made available to the media until Friday, it could become more clear who won’t be playing sooner rather than later. Penn State’s Wednesday practice is open to media for 15 minutes, followed by interviews with defensive coordinator Brent Pry and several players

Did Minnesota show that player suspensions need not be decisive in a bowl game outcome?

Curious to see who the PSU culprits are, but this team is nothing if not resilient

I agree with your final conclusion, but not sure how many hits to the OL or LB corps this team can take.

Was very, very impressed with Minnesota last night.
Not so impressed with Mike Leach and WSU.

Me too. I was wondering if they thought they would just sleep walk to a victory based on Minny having 10 suspended.

or TE. or S. or QB. Reality is there are few position groups where one player will not cause a significant negative impact. WR or DL, maybe, assuming it is just 1 or 2 players?

I have absolutely no idea if true but I saw on other social media that two players have been suspended (both starters, one on each side of the ball) and that the suspensions are due to something drug related. Very disappointing but, if true, proud of Franklin for sitting them out.

If whatever happened amounted to a judgment call for Franklin, then yes, I applaud him for taking a hard line with these players. Sometimes a coach is left with no choice, but it's when they have a choice that their character is tested.

Franklin says "It starts with I love you and it ends with I love you." Sometimes it's tough love.

If guys are suspended for drug issues, then it wasn't Franklin who suspended them. PSU has a publicly available athletics drug policy.

Whatever they did, I assume they knew it was wrong and just didn't care. It impacts the entire team, jeopardizes a potential top 3 ranking, and casts a shadow over a program that has more than its share of bad press. It was a selfish act and I am glad to see they will pay a price.

While that is the case let's not pretend that smoking weed is on the same level as shooting dope or doing blow.

If it was simply failing a piss test from smoking pot, then they sit and take their medicine then move on.

If it was anything other than smoking pot, neither would have made he trip and from what I've been able to gather both did travel to CA.

If I was Franklin, if the culprits haven't already been sent home (and if they were, I would bill their parents for the plane tickets), I would restrict their movements to the team hotel for the remainder of the trip. They can eat all their meals there. This program has been through too much for this to happen now. They have let their teammates down.

Im not happy with these guys, but we were all college kids once. I played a Division 1 sport in college and your life is so scheduled and your fun "college time" so restricted. I don't think you can preach "love" and "Family" wile castigating these kids for being....kids. Now, if its sexual assault or violence then we have a different story here. But I think bringing the kids to the game and allowing them to spend time with their teammates is fine. I would assume missing this game will be something they will remember the rest of their lives, I don't think they need to be punished more. Sometimes our teammates and our family let us down, but we stick by them and hope they learn from their mistakes.

Lighten up. The violation happened before the team left PA. The players did travel. They just won't play.

That should cue you in on the severity of the situation, but rules are rules.

This is all spec so far so I hesitate to comment. But if two kids were suspended but allowed to stay with the team, thats an interesting dynamic. If you send them home they would sulk and maybe get into more trouble. Plus, by staying with the team, they have to face the guys they screwed over. A week to at first, be shamed and then work through it. That will help them grow up quickly.

We have been very lucky to have coaches that have cracked down big time. There literally hasn't been any issues with this team in a couple years. Used to be every winter we had a couple police reports come out and heard of some mischief along the way. Now everything is so much more in the public eye too with social media and for this team to be this squeaky clean with 100 kids, personalities and different backgrounds and the whole bit....pretty amazing job by parents, kids, coaches and support staff. Sometimes something happening and a couple good kids losing out on the opportunity to play in the biggest game of their career for a dumb mistake is good teaching tool for the team, incoming recruits. Also has to be reassuring to players and recruits families that their son is in good hands. Tough lesson to learn for those involved but they will be better for it in the long run.

Somebody on TOS is saying Blacknall, Bowen and an unnamed backup wide receiver.....

I wonder what happens to players who are of age in states with legal recreational pot ?

No difference. The rules on MJ are team/school/NCAA rules. If the player gets caught by police in a state where possession is illegal, that's another matter (criminal). Same with the NFL/NBA/MLB etc.

I suppose it would be treated the same as showing up to work drunk? I don't know honestly, but that would be my best guess.

Not any different than showing up out of uniform.

It's voluntary so if you want to smoke, you don't have to play football. But if you want to play football, you can't smoke.

I laugh some of this stuff off because compared to what me and my friends were up to in school puts some of these infractions to shame. But I also understand that rules are rules.

Doesn't make Bowen or Blacknall bad kids.

I love how everyone is so erudite when it comes to the legalities pertaining to marijuana. Buncha stoners lol
