So who the hell got their sorry ass suspended for the RB?

I wonder what happens to players who are of age in states with legal recreational pot ?

it's still illegal for NCAA athletes. Just unbelievable that the NCAA (and NFL) will suspend people for smoking weed, but they're given candy bowls full of highly addictive opium-based painkillers.

There is a lot of muscle pain involved in athletic training, and in some people marijuana does a great job of dulling the pain so people can warm up faster and train harder.

The NBA pretty much looks the other way re pot use; weed is widely consumed in the NBA because it's safe and it helps people stay in top condition.

Albeit it fries your brain and is tough on the old lungs......

The whole "war on weed" is so friggen wrong on so many, many levels. I understand that we need to control it like alcohol but the continued Sched 1? It's such a farce.

Nancy Reagans' "War on Drugs". What a joke.

Hows' that "War" going by the way? Last I checked this country has more incarcerated adults from marijuana charges, with non-violent histories, than every other nation on earth...combined.

Not really. Not if Bowen is out. If Bowen is out we're in deep shit.

Koa Farmer has come a long way. It's hardly deep $h!t if he starts.

The extra speed he brings against USC and an athletic QB like Darnold could prove to be a more favorable matchup.

Pot helps people stay in " top condition " ? I also hear it cures baldness.

We'll know when the media watches practice.
I suppose it would be treated the same as showing up to work drunk? I don't know honestly, but that would be my best guess.

Not any different than showing up out of uniform.

It's voluntary so if you want to smoke, you don't have to play football. But if you want to play football, you can't smoke.

I laugh some of this stuff off because compared to what me and my friends were up to in school puts some of these infractions to shame. But I also understand that rules are rules.

Doesn't make Bowen or Blacknall bad kids.
I knew having sex with the office cleaning lady was wrong but I didn't know showing up for work drunk was. How about drunk after lunch? Is that okay?

I agree with that, but I don't think that's what they'll do. They'll run 33 out there and SC will smell that situation out from the start.

Great!

Let's see just how much folks can build on rumor, innuendo and gossip

Let's see:

7 guys were dealing heroin
4 hookers are dead
Vlad Putin is the kingpin

Let's determine some punishments for our scenarios as well.......
Life in prison
A nice crucifixion perhaps?
And, certainly, any offending party should go on a personal house-to-house apology tour to every fan-boy who's Monday afternoon viewing they disturbed

Good grief

I once heard that PSU fans were upset by the irresponsible, speculative, self-serving assclowns in the "media"...........anyone else ever hear that?
LMAO

Yea, no negative affects from smoking pot and it is highly recommended as an aid to get into and stay in shape...What???? LOL!!!

For the most part I agree but there are different strains and varieties that don't turn you into a sofa.
Just sayin.;)

yeah...maybe....wasn't that, like, 30 years ago? Way to keep up.

I'd be very surprised if Cooper plays against USC, considering Franklin has said that he suffered a season-ending injury.

So, we are going on the field to play USC with 5 linebackers who can play: Bell, Cabinda, Farmer, Brown, and a running back.

Outstanding.

Schools/NCAA can still ban it. There are many legal substances that are on the NCAA/school list of banned substances. For example Ephedrine is available over the counter but is a banned substance. Many supplements also contain banned substances. Alcohol is banned for rifle.

The hydroponically grown pot nowadays has about 30x the potency of street pot from the 70's.

You are a moron. The laws on drug offenses were set into motion then. We can always go down to the courthouse and look up cases if you want.

OK, then lets blame Hands Across America for spreading the common cold.

Yea, the point is that it is currently banned, not if it should be banned or not. The players are tested for it and know it is banned. So if a player uses, he is risking suspension and if caught is letting his teammates down. Pretty selfish decision IMO. In the case of pro players, they are risking the fofiture of millions of dollars and their careers because they cannot stop smoking weed.

If it's true that these two guys got popped for a bad urine test, I don't think it's really that much of a guess to suggest that they're not outliers in smoking - they just got unlucky or got careless in not keeping good enough track of when they'd be tested. Players generally know when they're going to be tested, and most are careful enough to be able to provide a clean sample when called upon.

True but it's a 2 sided coin. It's pretty much a repeat of PSU public relations incompetence (granted on a much smaller scale).

A story hits the press. Penn State pretends if they just stay quiet or make vague statements it will all just magically go away (the Peetz theory ;)).

The media (traditional and social) start their reports which get more sensational by the day to keep interest/ ratings and 'move the story'. (After all, by day 2 or 3 just saying 'unnamed players suspended' gets old so you start the speculation to keep the story fresh).

Penn State just sits quietly. Has Jeff Nelson even confirmed Penn State is in the Rose Bowl yet? ;)

You're missing Smith, who I think is the 2nd most instinctive LB on the team behind Bell. I actually would like to see Smith get a shot at starting MLB next year and they move Cabinda to the outside. Cabinda gets caught out of position too much for my liking (see Wisconsin game).

However, your head count tally of 5 LBs remains the same if the RB you are referring to is Jonathan Thomas. I don't think he took a single snap at LB this year, even in garbage time. I'd be shocked if he's even with the team next year.

Well except it's not THE MEDIA doing the speculating here, its our phenomenal fans who heard from someone who heard from someone that it could possibly be (fill in the blank).

If they failed drug tests I can guarantee you they would not be permitted to be in Cali at Disneyland partaking in the Rose Bowl activities. They would be watching from home by requirement. The AD's office and compliance would not allow them to travel. Franklin benched Sickels for half a game for missing a class. Those kids would not have been on the plane for drug policy violations nor would he want to babysit them in the last game of the year for fear they'd get in more trouble if home. Stop damaging these kids names on message boards by associating them with drugs unless you have facts!!

I thought there was also a rumor he moved back to RB. (makes no sense to me).
Don't know about next year. I'm guessing he will be. The staff seems to be pretty set on the number of schollies available at least for now.

A college kid smoked dope, drank, or humped a girl in his room.

Shocking.

I am quite sure smoking dope is against team rules. Not quite sure where drinking is in the list of rules as that one may vary depending upon age of player and time of year (in season vs. out of season).

However, I am quite sure that "humping a girl in your room" isn't against team rules. Or, to put it another way .... if there was such a rule, PSU (or any other team) wouldn't be able to find 11 guys to accept a scholarship offer. ;)
