Son accepted to University Park for the fall

My daughter just heard this morning that she just got accepted. She said this is the happiest moment of her life. Her previous happiest moment was the FG block by Allen and TD returned by Haley. Bringing her up right. ;)

Congratulations! For everybody going through this, a couple things to keep in mind:

1) Getting into UP is a great honor. UP is really quite selective. In many (maybe most) colleges now you've got to have SATs in the 1250-1300 range (new scoring) and a 3.8 GPA.
2) You can improve your chances in a number of ways -- picking summer enrollment, picking a major that is only offered at U Park, picking a less selective major. Remember majors can be changed and frequently change anyway.
3) If no UP, remember kids who go to branch campuses their first two years almost invariably have a great experience. Smaller classes, maybe easier to make friends, and then you and those friends go to UP for junior and senior year. And all the campuses have transportation to football games so you can be part of that crazy scene.

Ithaca College is a nice campus, have some friends who have kids there and they love it... the only swipe is that, unlike Cornell across the valley, collegetown is not walkable from IC

What is the attraction of Collegetown? Most of the bars are gone. And everything shuts down at 1 AM.

Congrats, a satisfying feeling for sure!

Is it still fairly competitive to get into university park as a freshman?

It is, their acceptance rate across all campuses is only 50%, with University Park being the most selective. Even more difficult for out of state students (rightfully so). I couldn't be more proud of his hard work to get here and have the choices he has.
