So it looks like more trips to games for the next 4 years than in years past!

He hasn't made a final decision, but he is leaning towards PSU. He is waiting to hear from Bentley before making a final decision and then it will likely come down to PSU/UMass Amherst and Bentley if he gets in. I will do my best to not influence him :)

Please say your son is Ellis Brooks!

Seriously, congratulations on your sons admission.

If he hasn't spent much time at UMass, he may not know how many precious, entitled types there are in Amherst. It's beyond obnoxious.

It's not UMass as much as it is the other schools in town, but there is no escaping it.

Congrats and good luck with the decision. I get to share with you the great feeling.
I already have a sophomore at UP, and on Saturday my younger son got his UP acceptance. He will be deciding between Delaware, PSU and very fittingly with prior posts in this thread VTech. He is leaning VTech, his dad not so much....

Congrats

If you don't mind me asking, when did he submit his app? My son submitted early October and has yet to hear. Called admissions last week and they say its random when they review an application. But with rolling admissions, it would seem that you review the apps in the order in which they were received.

Congrats. Dropped off my daughter in the late summer of 2009 and with a tear in my eye I told her I think she will experience "interesting times" during her four years in State College. I was alluding to JoePa's probable retirement. Of course I did not realize that whole Sandusky thing would break during those four years. My daughter still would not change her experience for anything and thanks to an excellent PSU education and experience she will be a doctor in 4 months.

It was a joke. See dylan rivers. :)
Got it, now I follow. VT was on my sons list with his grandfather having been an AA QA for them way back when, but is is just too damn difficult to get there from the Boston, MA area, which I am thankful for

He has, and I know what you mean. Lots of friends heading that way, so that makes it tempting.

I did that drop off with daughter in fall 2010, with same thoughts. The outcome is the same, with success in her professional choices and no regrets.

Congrats

It is random. He literally pushed the submit button on the evening of 11/30. We know folks that did the same and heard before Christmas and some that submitted earlier in the fall that still haven't heard.

I am in the same boat. My daughter submitted early October and is still waiting to hear. Most of her friends who applied at the same time or later have already been accepted. This is causing her a lot of stress. It has been her life long dream to go to UP.

My son is a HS junior right now in Upstate NY... Sam (sadly) has essentially dismissed the possibility of attending PSU simply based on the out-of-state tuition penalty and thus lack-of-value compared to SUNY options...

can i ask if PSU offered any type of financial / tuition relief for your out-of-state son ? I suspect not as they certainly did not for me back in the mid-80s...

I was in the same boat. My son wanted to go to PSU, but it was not possible with out-of-state tuition. PSU gave zero financial aid. He wanted to go to PSU so bad that he actually applied for an ROTC scholarship, even though he had minimal interest in the military (maybe that's why he didn't get it). Anyway, he is a sophomore at Mizzou now, doing very well and having a great time (although he is a little bitter that he couldn't be a student at PSU during this past football season)

Hey, i'd take an atmosphere like Mizzou over SUNY Oswego or SUNY Geneseo any day of the week

We only got the word via the portal, we haven't received the mailed package yet. But we don't expect to be receiving aid, it would be a quite a pleasant surprise. It is more expensive out of state for sure, but I think we are in a position to cover him for most of it, maybe we'll ask him to take the $5500 student loan for a couple of years.

You live in Boston area? I'm a BC High guy and went to PSU 83-88... did that drive dozens of times. Back them all in for out-of-state was $10k/yr. UMass would have been free for me due to fact my Dad was an academic dean at UMass Boston. However I had military service in my sights since I was 6 years old so an ROTC scholorship was my ticket. The big factor for me was aerospace engineering program and the fact that UP was 500 miles away from my overbearing Italian mother. No way I could stay in Boston area. Bentley is an excellent school though, albeit a completely different college experience. My brother played basketball at Babson which is a similar school in size/campus. He often told me he would have never survived at a large university. Either way you should be very proud... exciting times.

My eldest is starting at PSU Harrisburg in the Fall (will do the 2 + 2 with UP). He didn't apply anywhere else. Guess all those Fall Saturdays paid off. :)

Congrats to the kids getting their acceptance notices.

All due respect to those other schools, there really isn't a difficult decision to be made...seems pretty obvious to all of us.

Kidding...congrats, and good luck to your son!!

My youngest applied in November 8 (for summer admission) and noticed his acceptance Saturday, 1/21. He applied to Pitt, Temple, IUP, Ithaca and Penn State. He was accepted at IUP (in about 1 week), Ithaca (about a week after everything was in - he messed up and missed something), and Penn State. Pitt asked for more information (mid year grades). They weren't the top of his list anyway, so he has eliminated them. He is still waiting on Temple.

I think it will come down to PSU/Ithaca. He was offered some money at Ithaca, so the price there would be a bit more than PSU, but not a large amount.

Oldest graduated from PSU in 15, daughter is a senior at PSU this year.

My daughter thought every thing was in during October but it turned out her high school never sent the transcripts. Took a bit to get that straightened out. She received word that's she in at UP this past weekend via the portal. Have your daughter verify that Admissions isn't waiting on some data.

Thanks. According to the portal they have everything and are processing her application. She checks it daily.

This is yet another failing of PA leadership. The best dollars spent in Pennsylvania are dollars from other states. There has got to be a better way...yes, I have some ideas but I don't want to highjack this thread.

Well I can tell you the things Mizzou does:

1) Great merit scholarships for smart out of state kids. My son got $8500. He would have gotten the maximum of $10k but his high school doesn't report class rank and they require a certain percentage class rank for the highest reward. This program attracts the out of state talent into Missouri. I assume Mizzou hopes these students will get employment in Missouri and stick around after graduation.
2) An relatively easy path to establish Missouri residency and get in-state tuition starting your sophomore year. My son did this and will be getting an additional $7k knocked off his yearly tuition (he'll be losing his out of state merit scholarship, but will get the benefit of in-state tuition to the tune of about $15k).

Ithaca College is a nice campus, have some friends who have kids there and they love it... the only swipe is that, unlike Cornell across the valley, collegetown is not walkable from IC

We all do our best not to influence such important decisions. Yeah, right.

The Lion Path software transition has been a complete & total charlie foxtrot. Don't be surprised if she doesn't hear for a while.

My daughter just heard this morning that she just got accepted. She said this is the happiest moment of her life. Her previous happiest moment was the FG block by Allen and TD returned by Haley. Bringing her up right. ;)

Atta boy. :)

My nephew applied during the Ohio State weekend. He got in the first week of Jan.He goes to Boulder,CO High, which I heard bumps him up because of the out of state tuition.
