Spencer Lee - what am I missing?

I had some interesting conversations while in NYC this past weekend. My opinion of those conversations is that it is still a two team race (nothing new), that PSU and Iowa are still being seriously considered (again, nothing new). Wishing it true won't make it so. A week ago, I was certain we'd land Lee. Today, im more prepared for an alternate reality.

Mark Hall waited awhile also. That's also a reality.

That sounds a bit ominous ...

In his recent True Wrestling interview, he said he plans to decide before his senior year, then clarified to say before November.

He also said he likely wouldn't take his officials because he's already been to all of the top choices. He initially declined to mention schools, but the interviewer mentioned his visits to Penn State and Iowa, and Lee then said he had been to Ohio State. No other schools mentioned (though that doesn't necessarily mean he's down to 3).

I don't think we can ignore Tan Tom yet.

The thing is, with Cael landing Hall, it made it of paramount importance for our rivals to do everything to keep Lee away from us. Lee added on to what we've already got would really be lights out for the rest - you'd be looking at Gable-type dominance.

I am not that concerned, Cael has shown the ability to close the deal on guys he really wants. If I remember correctly, at the beginning stages of the Hall speculation, not too many people had Penn State sitting in the pole position.

Who saw Cortez coming......not worried. I saw the old Taylor vs Sanderson video last night where DT looked.....lost. Then he proceeds to be in the finals four years in a row. If a kid wants to be great, come to Penn State. If you want to go someplace else.....good luck. This past weekend proved there are a lot of schools where your dreams can come true. If you want to be on a championship team, there are only going to be a few.

You can read that last sentence a few ways - some fine for us (e.g. He's ours to lose but others have a definite shot); some not so fine (he's leaning elsewhere now).

A little more clarity from Gray would help
I didn't mean to imply he's leaning elsewhere (or anywhere). Leading up to ncaa's, I (like many of you) thought it was a lean to PSU. But after this past weekend, I realized that was nothing more than conjecture. It seems to be a true 50/50 chance for both teams.
