Not to be confused with the magic spray all the athletic trainers have at international soccer games.
but soccer players have magic injuries treatable by magic spray

Obviously, I hope he's OK. Watching the tape, it certainly doesn't look devastating. He was fine during the match (was pushing off fine, used the leg to elevate on the final tilt, and even had the Turk in with it at one point), but he was limping a little as soon as he got up. I'm not a doctor either, but it didn't seem to be anything to worry about at first glance.

I was actually surprised nobody said anything when it happened I came on the board and looked and I was sure gibbons was going to say something but he paused like he didn't want to say anything hope all is well that kid can flat out wrestle

A little perspective here. About 30 years ago when I was only twice Spencer's age, I got on the mat and live wrestled with a HS kid who was pretty decent and outweighed me by 50-60 lbs. I tweaked my knee pretty badly and was limping worse than Lee afterwards. When I got home, I put my knee in an ice wrap immediately and popped an 800 mg Ibuprofen pill that I happened to have handy. It was still sore the next day, but not like the night before. I kept up with the ice and Ibuprofen for about 2-3 days and was fine after that. Never went to a doctor.

Now I'm not going to pretend that I know all about Spencer's situation, but based on my own experience, I'll bet he's fine when the NCAAs start.

I just recently saw a documentary on Spencer (Flo ?). In HS, last year he got hurt, was going for 4 in a row. He demanded to wrestle. His point is he did not want to not try, as it would haunt him. Still, there is a point of no go. I suspect Spencer will want to wrestle no matter what. He seems committed to Iowa. Very loyal. Good luck!
Think that doc was on BTN right after semis.

I finally rewatched the link. He actually says it twice, “I blew my knee out”. Once right after taking the headgear off and then again as he passes the staff at mat edge.

To be fair, that doesn’t mean he actually did, could have been a strain enough to warrant the thought. And he’s too busy chewing up his opponent. No way to know and seriously....I hope it’s not.

On one leg he lost to ADS by a point when going for 4, and leaves one a little empty. I’d rather see his greatness on display rather than impaired greatness.

Hopefully he can still go like Nolf did his Junior year. I’ll still take a hobbled Spencer Lee vs the field.

Ironically - Micah seemed by far Nolf's easiest match during NCAAs. Micah was so bad on bottom that Nolf (who's not know as a turner really) literally got 3 sets of 4NF off of like the first turning combination you might learn in youth wrestling (a power half)

4:44 in this vid - they cut the jog off and then limp once he started walking around a event worker that you’d see in the longer vid on TheMat. He clearly gets the left (unbraced) knee caught under him. Good that he could continue, but definitely tweaked something at the very least (not a dr, but I’ve had 3 knee operations)
Bumping this post. I think this was when the left ACL popped. Leg caught under and yanked back hard. Kid is tough!

Was it just me or does anyone else notice Lee barking and clearly unhappy with brands at the end of his match last night?

And secondly when brands ran up to Lee when he was preparing to give you the interview and put the hat on his head looked like the most forced and choreographed occurrence of the entire tournament. And it look like it annoyed Lee.

It's nothing short of Herculean to win an NCAA title with a torn ACL. Now I hope it doesn't affect his chances in the Olympics. He's on our team now that NCAAs are over!
True dat. B
I will preface this by saying I have no idea what the situation is and this is simply my observation after the point was brought to my attention by a buddy. Something seemed off with Spencer at the end of his finals match...I watched in real time and thought something was amiss. He winces a bit and seems to limp...he looks at the corner and shakes his head and says something to the coaches just before taking his ankle bands off. He then says something to his coach and I'm no expert lip reader, but it looks like he says "I blew my knee out..." He then didn't appear to be his normal self in the interview...you almost always see a smile from Spencer in those interviews.

I do hope he is not injured as he is such a hammer and I enjoy watching him take apart his opponent. Any wrestling fan no matter who your allegiance is to can appreciate Spencer's dominance. He is likely good enough to win nationals on a bum knee (the same way Nolf did), but doing so would be a significantly tougher challenge than if he were not injured.

Again, just posting my observation which admittedly could be completely wrong. There is a thread on this on themat.com so it's not a completely outlandish observation.
Turns out that your post was EXCELLENT!

Spencer looked like Spencer right after the "incident" in question. On the mat he had good movement, was able to push off, etc. Surely anything significant would have resulted in more obvious signs. Speculating about injuries is dangerous, as no one knows until after the medical community does their thing.

"Surely"...NOT!

BTW, this is a freekin message board, not a court room. Speculation is one of the underpinnings of every message board.

The hard part is when Spencer asks to join NLWC. It’s gonna be awkward. :)
Can you imagine the reaction in Iowa City! Spencer's stature and importance to Iowa fans seems massive. Cleveland fans' reaction to "the decision" by LeBron years ago may seem tame by comparison. I'd expect bonfires and pitchforks, and maybe a police escort out of town for the Lee family. ;)

Here's a link from the Des Moines Register to Spencer's presser interview. The following video with Cody Godwin is worth the watch, as well.

https://www.desmoinesregister.com/s...alist-tom-brands-brandon-courtney/4784565001/

Lee's latest knee injury came actually during the finals of the Big Ten Championships. His father, Larry, told the Register that Lee tore it within the first 30 seconds of the match. He went on to win by a 21-3 technical fall over Purdue's Devin Schroder.

The days after his latest knee injury were filled with a lot of unknowns. He didn't wrestle much, he said, and limited his workouts to just three hours each day. He said doctors were surprised that he was even attempting certain workouts.
---------------------------------------------
My question - What is a normal workout if he was limited to 3 hours?

I can't even imagine wrestling with a torn ACL!

I have had both my ACL's surgically repaired.

When Spencer say's he wrestling with no ACL's is he saying he has never had them repaired? For instance the rumor (maybe fact?) is that Greg K. is wrestling with a torn ACL that has not been surgically repaired.

Spencer just tore an ACL in the Big10 finals on a knee that had been previously torn. Which to me indicates surgery would have been previously performed.
Just curious........

Spencer is one Tough Man! Hopefully, he can wrestle in 2 weeks.

My guess is no...moving on to his international career. 3 time champ and Iowa won the team title...not much else to prove. I guess an attraction could be returning for a 4th title. A key indicator may be if after the trials he gets surgery...He spoke about how he couldn't shoot, couldn't sprawl, etc. His competition at trials will be brutal if he is immobile. If he gets double ACL surgery after the trials, it will be very difficult to return for the college season.
