Spencer

I can't even imagine wrestling with a torn ACL!

I have had both my ACL's surgically repaired.

When Spencer say's he wrestling with no ACL's is he saying he has never had them repaired? For instance the rumor (maybe fact?) is that Greg K. is wrestling with a torn ACL that has not been surgically repaired.

Spencer just tore an ACL in the Big10 finals on a knee that had been previously torn. Which to me indicates surgery would have been previously performed.
Just curious........

Spencer is one Tough Man! Hopefully, he can wrestle in 2 weeks.
The ACL torn in high school was surgically repaired. It sounds like he currently has two torn ACL's, the question is how severe? The one from a few years ago he could have rehabbed a parial tear.

Did he injure it 8 days ago or in the BIG final? Conflicting info.

There were a lot of questions and lack of clarity about Spencer's knee injury in high school also. As far as I know, neither Spencer or Larry is a medical doctor, much less an orthopedist, so I take their assessments and statements about the severity of Spencer's knee injuries with a grain of salt.

I'll add this. Please try to keep your stories straight, Spencer and Larry.

"He said, 'Dad, all I need you to do is support me, because we are not going to lose the team national title because I didn't wrestle,'" Larry Lee told the Register. "He said, 'That will not happen. I'm wrestling.'

Given that the team title was already won by Iowa before the finals began, Spencer wrestling in the finals match was superfluous.

Lee's latest knee injury came actually during the finals of the Big Ten Championships. His father, Larry, told the Register that Lee tore it within the first 30 seconds of the match. He went on to win by a 21-3 technical fall over Purdue's Devin Schroder.

The days after his latest knee injury were filled with a lot of unknowns. He didn't wrestle much, he said, and limited his workouts to just three hours each day. He said doctors were surprised that he was even attempting certain workouts.
---------------------------------------------
My question - What is a normal workout if he was limited to 3 hours?
After 3 hours, wrestling stops being fun. So the answer is 8.

I’m guessing this latest one was a full tear/rupture. This would explain how he was able to come back and compete in two weeks time and do so without a brace. A partial tear would have been too painful even for a kid like Spencer IMO.

By the way, if memory serves, Spencer also had shoulder surgery at some point. Hopefully his body doesn’t completely fail on him before he has a chance to compete for an Olympic Gold.

I have my own opinions about Larry Lee but will keep them to myself. Will say this though, not the first time he has made contradictory statements..

Pandering for a hodge?

At some point he will need surgery I am guessing
The Olympic trials will be interesting in this regard, too. If he struggles there because of the knee(s), he may opt for the surgery this offseason. He still has a redshirt year he can take next year to fully heal then have 2023 folkstyle to go for 4, which would lead nicely into freestyle training for the 2024 Olympics.

So Spencer tore acl 1 in the big ten finals, then acl 2 8 days ago?
I am assuming the tear was in the Big10s.... then the reference of 8 days until Natty's makes sense based on prep time and then leaving. I can see the term/# of days being used looking back...

There is no way you are not Ironbird.
Lol. Guess I forgot the sarcasm emoji. And no I'm not that bad holy shit have you seen his posts. I didn't say lee was on roids. Actually my reference was to an earlier post about why he brought it up in the first place.

That conversation happened before the tourney. If he doesn't wrestle Iowa doesn't win.

Whatever you want to say about Spencer, the kid is an animal and maybe the best wrestler to come out of PA ever.

He has twice now wrestled with a 'fresh' ACL injury, and the highschool experience did not end so well. Nonetheless he dove into what is the most physically grueling tourney in Folk.

An 80% Spencer is still markedly better than everyone else in this year's class. I don't know that he could have made it a go vs someone like Suriano on one leg, but he is a true champion.

I give him a complete pass on the post match interview. First he is the fiercest of competitors. Second he couldn't give it his best due to injury, and finally, the rest of his team did disappoint at the end, taking just a bit of luster of their shining achievement. Not sure if the Desanto thing had taken place yet but the two are very tight, and if so, you would think he would be distracted by that too.

Spencer admitted he couldn't shoot or sprawl. It's one thing to run roughshod over this year's 125 class in folk where he can punish anyone from on top even if he has to wait for the 2nd or 3rd to get there.

One would have to think his soul has been ripped out he now has to make a go for the Olympics on one leg. You have to be 100% in neutral for Freestyle and his top game in folk doesn't translate fully to free where laces and guts (and less so bars) are king.

I am a huge Spencer believer but this injury takes him from conversations of Gold to his making the team is now in question. At 100% I see him taking out Fix, Suriano and Gilman, but from what I saw yesterday, and his own words, I don't think so.

So in his defense, his dream of an Oly Gold may have to be pushed out another 3 years. Injuries suck. Put a microphone in my face after a tough match and everything else above, I am confident I come across much worse.
