..I think PSU matches up fairly well. Can't believe near media consensus thinking we lose (some by two TDs)

Thoughts from UW game

-First off, UW QB Browning is a very good passer..but not when he has to move. Kid stumbles over his own feet literally. He made some poor throws that cost them but UW WR also missed wide open pass on trick play in first half. I mean there was no one within 10 yards of guy right in his sight yet he tosses it to another player in double coverage. Could have been one score game instead of two towards the end.

-Sam Darnold is a great passer and great accuracy over the middle for such a young QB.
-He has good pocket awareness and can move but "Brett Favre" he is not.
-PSU needs confuse him and protect middle of the field. Bring some confusing blitzes and kid will give ball up
-Jones, the RB, is ok but nothing special.UW gobbled him up mostly. Not one to break tackles. PSU DL has stopped much better.
-USC WRs, particularly Rogers, are awesome. TE is very talented. This is the crux of the team. Similiar to PSU they have multiple weapons and can really cause match up problems. Allen and company better bring some hits.
-USC defense is very solid and seems to have edge speed. They are at least as athletic as Wisconsin.

More to come but so far, I think USC has not played a Penn State team with great playmakers at every skill position. Media has it wrong. We can win if we play our style and don't fall behind.

I think PSU's style is to fall behind. :)

I think several sportscasters jumped on the USC bandwagon after they beat Washington and the
rest of the sheep followed. During their winning streak, USC only beat two teams with winning records.
Colorado at home by 4 and Washington. I like PSU's chances.

Awesome..true but Santa's bag may be empty by Jan. 2. Would rather PSU not fall behind by two TDs or more against a very good team.
Just one guy's opinion..........but I think one of the team's playing in the Rose Bowl (not sure which one) is the 2nd best team in the country right now

I have seen only limited amount of USC - but they look very good. I think the key is how the two lines play each other (USC OL vs PSU DL/LB and USC DL/LB vs PSU OL). as you watched the game how do you think we match up there.

we look very similar in the skill spots.

The "sports media" wants to justify leaving PSU out of the playoffs. SO, in order to keep the paychecks coming in best get on board !!!
Same reason the "experts" picked Wisconsin over PSU.
Heck if (when) we win ALL will know the "media committee" got it WRONG !!!!

Not sweating this one. SC is 3rd or 4th best team we have played this year. Them playing in LA and being SC has as much to do with the current perception as their play, which is not dominant.

I see Koa Farmer playing big in this game. Two sacks for the home town boy playing for the blue and white.

it's pretty apparent the odsmakers are having serious issues guaging the strengths of the teams in play this toilet bowl season. of course, when you have pughkeepsie tech playing wascally wabbit boo in downtown opalaka, i guess maybe we shouldn't be all that surprised that they really have no idea what to expect.

personally, i'm thrilled we are td doggies... we win yet again (our signature on the road W), it shuts the "experts" up one more time.. and just maybe they'll get on board.

the key being... WIN.

Odds makers don't only asses the teams but also which way the money is going to go.
If They were close on this line because if more money had been going to PSU, the odds would have dropped.

You are correct... but the starting point does have impact on the way things move. For example, the odds guys decided colorado state was going to make moosh moosh out of idaho. line opens colo -13 and finishes at -15/16. A 2-3 point swing and fascinating considering the game was played in idaho.

Odds guys set the bar and the money moves a bit this way or that but rarely strays more than 3-4 points either way. They set the bar... not the public. The public merely reacts, and in most instances they are pre-conceived notions of who is or might be better.

So if vegas thinks usc is a 7-10 point fave, it is highly unlikely the majority of bettors will take a deep plunge the other way.

all the public has heard is that usc is now one of the 3 best teams in the nation and the presumption is that with theeir new qb they'd now be a dead match for bama (the team the destroyed them in september). so it follows logically that no matter what we've done we have no buisness on the field wioth bama.. ergo, neither with usc.

I have virtually no doubt we are the better team provided we can keep usc off TM. I think it's a great game and would not be surprised if the final score favored one team or thre other by 7-10 points. I happen to think that team will be wearing blue tops and would take the points.

btw, oddsshark had the line at wku -7 yet the predicted score at 50-30... finished 51-31... not too shabby!

As I posted the other day, I believe we have the greater upside from the down time and extra practices because of the beating Barkley and McSorley endured and the almost weekly OL injuries and having to play freshmen and other linemen out of position. I'm also hoping usc is believing what the western and national press says about us!

LIke you I've watched some of USC's games. (on youtube). They have some very, very athletic and talented players but man the competition they played in the Pac12 was pretty weak. I don't think any of them have a defense that compares to Wiscy, tOSU, or Michigan and some arent as good as Iowa or Minny.
I thought USC's defense was good but not as good as Wiscy or Michigan's.
It should be a very good game.

From the limited games I've seen I think our DL matches up pretty well. I'm worried about our OL. If Mahon was back I'd say we would be ok. Now I think it will be up to Joe M. and Matt L. to find ways to neutralize the USC DL.

Exactly. The OP of this thread is now one of the very few in the world that has watched any decent amount of both Penn State and USCw.

The USCw hype train started after they beat UW, and because of who they are -- and the fact that they were already a borderline top-25 team to begin with -- it was an easy bandwagon/train to jump on.

To idiot/uninformed sports reporters -- and even a good number of mental midgets on the playoff selection committee, we see -- it still doesn't make sense for Penn State to be as good as they are, so it's a lot harder for them to jump on that train.

Their TE, Imatorbhebhe I believe #88 looks to be a real weapon in their offense. As with other USC teams in the past, the love throwing the seam route and this kid is a big target for their QB.
