Stevens Transfer Portal

So wrong, but then again you know that.
What specifically is incorrect? That Penn State has better talent than Kentucky? Or that Penn State just underachieved with a very disappointing 4 loss season? More like “so right, but then again you don’t want to admit it.”

That is not what you said in the post I was responding to. You said Trace did not deliver, wrong. You said if I think Farmer is the best we have then we’re Indiana/Illinois level...wrong...you and every other PSU fan knows Farmer is not the best we have. You said Franklin played Farmer because he was a senior, yet you have no idea why Franklin played him. Your assumptions don’t make something a fact.

Your posts are similar to a fanboy rather than a (clear-eyed, realistic) fan.
Definitely 78SweetRevenge. Being wrong doesn’t make you a realistic fan, it just makes you wrong. If having faith in Franklin makes me unrealistic, then I guess I’m unrealistic, but I’ll take Franklin’s coaching over yours any day.

No and he should not have been starting at Penn State either. PSU’s talent is top-15 in the country.

There were 8 teams in the top 15 final rankings with 3 or 4 losses. 4 of them were in the top 10.

Last year there were 7 3/4 loss teams in the top 15. The year before it was 9. IT would have been more if you only count P5 teams. A three loss team finished as high as 3rd in the final poll. A 3 loss team can even finish second. Usually only one P5 team will go undefeated.

Neither do yours. Penn State has more talent than Kentucky (fact: check any objective source). Trace did not deliver at key times (fact: simply check his record). Farmer started when better options were available (simply check the statistics and grades and for God sakes, watch the actual games and play on the field). I don’t care why Franklin played him, the factvis he stayed every game but 1.

Any team having more talent than any other team doesn’t guarantee a win. Trace is the winningest QB in school history and has most of the records....if that’s not delivering, I don’t know what is. Farmer may have played for a variety of reasons and unless you’re with the team every day and at every practice, you don’t know why. And please list your coaching resume that qualifies you to decide who should and shouldn’t play more so than guys who are involved with the team every day and make those decisions with their entire livelihood in the balance.

I would take Franklin’s Coaching over mine every day too. And I think he is doing a good job and is a great choice for PSU. But that does not make him infallible. And a lightweight assessment from you does not make me wrong. As for 78Sweet whatever, I have no idea who that is...perhaps someone you know?

But what qualifies you to be the one to decide where he’s being infallible? It’s easy to make decisions after the fact. Monday morning quarterbacks are never wrong.

You are what your record says you are.
Exactly. Penn State has the capability/potential to be much better. Hopefully Franklin can get us there. It must start with winning games against equal or order talent. And stealing a game or two against better talent. We are not there yet.

FAct is our record is right on par with top 15 talent. 8 teams in the top 15 had 3or4losses. It is actually 9 teams if we only count P5 teams.

Can you name your objective source that says PSU has more talent than Kentucky?

Not really. According to YOU they have top 15 talent. That puts a team in a 3 or 4 loss range.

Get a clue.

And who are you to decide that he is infallible? Bottom line is that we underachieved. And many, many, many people (a lot smarter football minds than me and you) have questioned and criticized Franklin’s game time decisions. Exhibit A: Sanders draw on last offensive play of Ohio State last year. Are you suggesting that I have to be Vince Lombardi to question that call?

But Vince Lombardi wouldn’t blame the loss on that one play. Just like Vince Lombardi wouldn’t blame every loss on the QB. And most of the so-called football experts that question Franklin aren’t really football experts or they would be coaching too. If you look at the teams that have the longest streaks for being ranked, Penn State is in the top 5 behind Bama, Clemson, Ohio State, and Oklahoma...but all those other guys can coach and Franklin can’t. Give me a break.

It's not the critic that counts.....its the man in the arena...
Every play is designed to work. Players need to execute.

Love Trace and how hard he played. But if you think that he is the best QB in PSU history you have a lot more to learn about Penn State football than I previously thought. Did he deliver when we needed him the most? Sadly, he did not: Pitt 201: mental and physical errors lost the game and cost PSU a playoff spot. USC 2016, mental error cost PSU that game. Michigan State in 2017 and 2018? How did we fair in those games? Ohio State in 2017: could not close the game out. Kentucky game? Did not make the play needed to win the game. Great kid and competitor, good QB, but we will need better to take the next step. That is on Franklin to find him and not express “ man crushes.”

So just call a QB sneak on each play. If executed perfectly, it will result in a TD. And it removes a lot of risk. C’mon Marshall, you know better than that...!

I know that Purdue ran similar plays vs OSU and they broke them for long runs. Assuming plays that don't work are bad calls is ignoring the fact that there are 2 teams on the field and they are coached to stuff you.

There is not enough space to describe sources that will tell you that Penn State has better talent than Kentucky. Are you really arguing that? For starters, chrck any recruiting ratings? Check the NFL draft over the next several years. (Yes, I am aware Kentucky has a couple of NFL caliber talent, but nothing in the aggregate nearing PSU.

Gets clue, Kentucky talent> PSU talent is embarrassing yourself.

Who are you to decided what we should achieve? According to you we are top 15 talent. That puts us at 3 or 4 losses most years.

Feel free to name your source on the talent rankings. I will be glad to use YOUR source to dispute your point.

The flaw with your point is you are looking for top 5 results from a top 15 talent. 3 loss teams have actually finished in the top 5. 4 loss teams can make the top 10.

Sure such a call worked at times, but for your final play? So you are defending that Sanders draw in that place? Would put you in a very small minority view of people who follow the game.

Where did I say he was the best QB in PSU history (although some may argue he is)? Pitt game...Trace did not spot Pitt a huge first half lead, the defense did. USC...the defense was every bit at fault as anyone for that loss. Last year’s MSU game...if the DB would have caught a very easy INT (which Trace would have caught I’m sure) we win...etc etc. you obviously know very little about football if you’re blaming every loss on the QB. Last I checked the QB can’t tackle everyone, block everyone, make every catch, and hold onto every ball. If everyone else played a perfect game and we lost due to Trace then you can blame him. So by your logic, if he’s responsible for every loss than he’s also responsible for every win, and since he has more wins than any other QB, he’s thereby the best QB in Penn State history...you really have to be consistent in your arguments.

I am just asking that we beat teams like 2016 Pitt and .500 teams like 2018 Michigan State at home. Do your own research. I have seen enough recruiting ranking me to know that we have better talent than Kentucky. That should not be too difficult to establish.

Not at all. I am arguing that PSU should have had better results from a top 15 talent. THeir wins and losses are right on par with top 15 talent. 8 teams in the top 15 had 3/4 losses this year. It is 9 if you only count P5 schools. Want to debate that fact?

Most of PSU's high end talent was in their last two classes which makes them freshman, RS freshman or sophomores.

Pick a source/scouting service of your choice. I will go with it. THEY are all similar and they will all have at lest 10+ team ahead of PSU on paper and those are most of the teams ahead of PSU in wins.

Some have the best results have come from plays that shouldn’t have been called, it catches the defense off guard. One example was the run up the middle by Barkley in OT against Minnesota. Based on what had happened that entire game, it was the wrong call but it turned out to be exactly the right call. That’s why guys much smarter than posters on this board get paid big money to make those calls.

Who said Franklin can’t coach? All I am saying is that he just get better to take the next step (up to level of the teams you mentioned above). Don’t want to take my word for it? Ask Franklin himself- that is what his ‘elite’ lecture wa all about. Give me a break!

And those same services have us way behind OSU. They had PSU behind Michigan 4 out of the last 6 years.

One thing Franklin has done is beat teams we absolutely should beat. You keep bringing up Pitt, but they were favored that year. UK had a perfect storm of a team and should not be compared to UK teams of the past. MSU is a big time football program whether you want to accept that or not. We aren’t losing to the Ohio Universities and Virginias on our schedule anymore.

Well, there’s a lot more to being at the level of those four teams than just a coach. It takes Resources, facilities, and an administration that wants it. That’s why Oklahoma stayed at that level after Stoops left and OSU will stay at that level after Meyer.

Hard to discern what any of this has to do with Stevens and the transfer portal to someone opening the thread and expecting some relevant news....

Could not agree with you more. And glad to see Franklin press to make sure PSU has what it needs to compete.

What relevant news would there be at this point? Everything that can be said about it has been said. The next relevant point will be when he announces where he’s going.

He is trying to get better. He is probably using YOUR example of FArmer and applying it to QB. He is probably just going with the best qB regardless of age. Are you on board?

Exactly! So why not start a thread where you can play your patty cakes without polluting this one!

Or you could not read this one until Stevens announces. It’s easy to not click on a thread.
