Super 32 Thread

that was a beatdown. bassett ran into someone he couldn't bully
Knox looked real good. He weighed in low so he dropped to take on Bassett. I was surprised at the backs given up by Bo

wow poorly timed snack run. walked back in to see gaitan getting his hand raised. how did that go down?

just watched. i thought haines looked fine. got snaked at the end of a period and then panicked a bit on that headlock attempt. really bad quick stalemate in the first when it looked like he was starting scoot behind with a crotch lock. saw kids score there all weekend. there's a real problem in high school officiating where refs just don't understand what they're looking at with how advanced technique has gotten at that level.

Wow, heck of a weekend of wrestling. Im exhausted!! The boy had a good day today. Took an ass whooping in the quarters but came back for 3rd. He'll have another crack at the MS bracket next year, he's a 7th grader. Some really good wrestling, and a lot of blocking off and hand fighting trying to win on a late TD or rideouts. Saw some guys lose tight matches that would have won going away had they got to their offense early on. Fun weekend, time for some sleep before the drive back home.

Weighed in low? I thought in the “kick the s*** out of him” interview he said he was weighing around 120 a couple days before. That’s a huge cut in a few days for someone that weight.

How many Super32 titles have the Bachmann brothers won now? I think I remember reading about them on here in the last year or so. Maybe one of Tom’s linked articles. I see they both won MS titles.
Went to S32 site to look. Think they both had 4 before winning this one. Kind of got lost looking at names in old results

Joey originally registered at 95 pounds, then at a dual tourney a few weeks ago he got beat pretty bad by Jayden James, who then also registered at 95 pounds for Super 32. The next day Bachman changed his weight to 90 pounds. Domenic Munaretto then went from 90 pounds to 85 pounds. Just a few examples of kids(parents) cutting a lot of weight for middle school accolades. Bachman and James with titles at 90 and 95. Munaretto got runner up at 85 pounds.

I think Zain got 8th his freshman year, and only won Super 32 til his senior year? His college career turned out pretty darn good.

Also noticed Melvin Miller was originally registered at 90 pounds, he wrestled at 100 pounds for this tourney. Wish more kids took his route, not ducking and sucking so much weight. He ended up getting 4th with two super close losses.

Jax has improved a ton over the past 2 years and has put in the work to do it. Great kid.
McCourt’s team will next season consist of Bassett, 2 Gibsons, Forrest and Herring as nationally ranked kids. Behind the are Magro, Sipes, Varrette, Miller, Butler, McMillen and Penserio as threats to podium. Plus whoever else suddenly moves to Johnstown for a catholic education. Not sure of all their grades but damn that is a solid district 6 AA squad.

Varrette is a fricken stud in his own right. I believe he won a MS title today as well. Ive been watching him wrestle for a lot of years. He was on the Colorado scene before heading to PA. It is definitely a transition (wrestling in PA), but he seems to be adjusting well.

That would be a solid national preps team. Too bad they'd rather beat up on the 100-head enrollment AA schools.

Hate to beat the drum but no reason for a team like this to be in the PIAA. Can’t blame the parents and kids for wanting that training environment but they should be in Preps. I usually think for individual states the kids would be in the brackets anyway at their home schools but can’t really say that when now the kids are coming from out of state.

2 Gibson's? Mason is a Sophomore and Erik is a senior, is there a 3rd?

The hitch with the transfers being in the same brackets at states is PA having 2 classifications. IDK the specifics on all of McCort's transfers. Many are from Forest Hills, which is also AA.

McCort is hardly breaking new ground with out of state transfers: Beca (Ryan Anderson/NJ), Notre Dame Green Pond (Brett Ungar/NJ), Saegertown (Devin Brown/OH), and Waynesburg Central (Henson/MO, Phaturos/AZ, others). With the last 2 being public schools. Going back a little further: Trinity (Ryan Diehl/WV). Going back much further: the other Trinity (Bob Truby/MD).

That's not to excuse it -- IMO McCort, Beca, and NDGP should be national preps. But I have no idea what to do about public schools accepting high-profile out-of-state transfers, and especially those accepting multiple imports like Waynesburg.

I completely understand rules my question is how far are we going to go to segregate our kids because of talent or family commitment to being a student athlete? Eventually my son competed at PJW’s and National preps and chose PSU to continue his college education.
That's just a fact of life outside of athletics. My brother married into a family that sends all of its kids to boarding school in Europe.

OK, that's somewhat of an extreme example, but parents don't send their kids to Seminary or Blair or Malvern for them to end up at Edinboro or Bloomsburg.

If PIAA schools go National Preps for athletics, that doesn't separate those kids from their classmates during school hours. The segregation is the parents choosing which set of classmates the kids will have.

LOL you guys acting like he wrestled some bum the kid was ranked number 1 WTF
I never thought for a second Knox is some bum. I was surprised he cut from 120 to 106. He looked real slick with his top game. I'm just
surprised he was able to turn Basset like that

I'm not sure if Ungar and Anderson should be included in the "out of state" list...could be wrong but didn't they still live in NJ and commute?

Bassett seemed lost underneath, I wonder why🧐

So did Diehl, and that's irrelevant.

Also irrelevant: that Sammie Henson coached D1 in a different state than where his son wrestled.

Its pretty simple Imho, you have public school and you have private school as far as team championships go. Individual championships have no bearing on what school you go to.

The kid is just a pup. How many that age have mastered all three disciplines? To your point it's hard to practice a position you spend little time at with rough competition. Time to partner up with Zain for a while. Give it a year maybe two and these issues will be no more. I just hope we get to see them have another go at each other.

If he partners up with a 40+ lb heavier Zain Retherford, who chews up and spits out bigger college and senior men, there won't be a Bassett left to have issues.

I don't think he did. He got a reversal right away in the first. I think Knox is just super crafty on top. Made an adjustment on the the tsirtsis sit out bassett was using and caught him with that modified pancake thing. then he caught bassett napping in the last 5 seconds of a period.

not really a technical issue. a lax in focus against a better opponent who was ready to take advantage. that match reminded me of dake-marion in the ncaa finals where marion looked tough, but dake was always a step ahead made him pay for every little mistake.
