Suriano video

Sorry if this sounds silly, but what kind of grammar is 'they tried everything they could to not make it happen'. What?

How about 'they tried everything they could to prevent it from happening'. I'm a bit embarrassed that he spent a year at PSU. Was he sleeping during grammar? Good grief.

Yeah..I don't get it at all. If PSU only thought about winning, they would have put him on the mat regardless of how bad his ankle was. They didn't to protect the kids health and in Suriano's mind he was "robbed." Ridiculous

Yeah..Cael should be happy that a kid he spent time, resources, money wants to leave and is mad because they fought to keep him? Very very strange..

Is it possible Suriano was cleared to wrestle and aggravated the injury at practice where none of us could see?

Any chance he feels the ankle wasn't treated properly by the staff, and he feels robbed because he wasn't ready to go?

That family is a therapist's wet dream. Feel bad for the kid. Can't go wrong like he appears to be without guidance.

To think this &$#@ likely cost us Spencer Lee. If not Spencer then someone else at another weight like 133.
This is a board legend that cannot die fast enough.

Penn State was Lee's runner-up. If he had committed here, Cael would've moved Cruiseliner Nick to 133.

Cael continued to pursue Fix after Lee committed to Iowa. Jerz's presence did not stop that.

Sowhen he does not win this year...who's fault will it be?

he wanted to leave--of course Cael was going to try to keep him.
again how was he robbed? he stated at the beginning of last season that we couldn't wrestle until May....

I took his comment to mean that PSU / Cael did everything they could to not make the transfer to Rutgers happen. Also, it is possible that he was referring to his injury when he says he was "robbed" and this his injury robbed him of his opportunity to compete for a National Championship. It is possible that these clips have been taken out of context to get us PSU fans riled up and increase the clicks.

Suriano needs to just shut his spoiled little mouth and wrestle. But he can’t. He’s become such a basket case, I bet he never wins a national championship.

I'm looking over Suriano's career and he really doesn't have a signature win. Best win this year was over Sebastian Rivera in 2 close matches. I guess Cruz last year.

He mauled Cruz last year.

I've literally said nothing regarding Nick. I just didn't care. However, some people can't just shut up and move on. Move on Nick. Just move on. You were able to transfer in conference for no legitimate reason. Get over yourself. You're at Butgers, give me a damn break.

Egomaniac comes to mind when watching this - videos about him; everybody talking about him; the center of attention.

Interested if FLO attempted to get the other side of the story?

Cael has the nation's best program and he doesn't give Flo the time of day. I honestly believe this rubs the Flo boys the wrong way and I believe it explains their provocative Twitter quote and a host of other things (e.g., Pyles making such a big deal out silly shit like how Cael handled the Suriano announcement last year, etc.).

I already spew my marvelous seeds of thought all over this board.
Way way way TMI.

I was just about to type this exact same thing. Unless you watch the video you can only guess at the context. These soundbites may have been plucked for promotion because there was a good chance they could be taken out of context and create more views.

For all the "I didn't before, but now I do after watching that clip" folks, I would advise holding off judgement until you see the entirety of the video.

Fix was always going to OSU, but I still had my fingers crossed up until the last minute. Yes PSU was Lee's runner up but that was well after Suriano was on board. I think this might have at least slightly influenced Lee's decision. I can guarantee you without Surriano Cael would have been even more aggressive to keep that PA product in PA. If you refuse to accept that Lee might have come here under different circumstances I still insist we would not have had to live with a 2 year gap at both 125 and 133. Siriano's portion of the 9.9 would have brought someone else in stronger than what we have today, and last year.

Suriano to Rutgers is not an isolated event or better said an isolated impact to the program. What we might have been had we never placed our trust in that emotionally fragile adolescent will never be known.

Suriano's personality aside, I totally get Cael's resistance. Hemade a big commitment to Nick and got treated like garbage in return. The Big ten has, check that, had a 1 year competition ban in place for transfers, and there was a reason for that. I don't think Cael or any other coach wants (a) kids getting flaky and changing schools on a whim or whenever their egos get in a tizzy (b) in the end if left unabated schools like PSU and tOSU 'could' cherry pick the hell out of the rest of the big 10. No tampering required, every time a strong senior class graduates kids might jump at the chance to be on the next PSU national championship squad. With only 9.9 this behavior could ruin most up and coming programs, losing the best kids on they said with no downside risk for the kid. It could be like NCAA basketball with the best kids jumping to the NBA after their softmore year. (C) a slot on a wrestling team and the portion of a scholarship a kid gets is a 5 year commitment in most cases and part of a 5 year plan for the coach. As in this case PSU simply can't plug in the next man up. PSU has a few elite guys on the bench redshirting but with 9.9 you really have no 'viable' backups... A la what we saw with Shnupp and Bo P filling in for Nolf. I don't see Cael supporting rule breaking no matter how many attorneys the dissapointment's daddy brought with him.

I refuse to accept somebody's speculation of Lee's decision over Lee's own statement about his decision.

And Spencer Lee, who moved up an age class to win worlds, didn't want to come to PSU because Nick Suriano might have been at his weight? Cut me a break. World level competitors aren't wired that way.

As far as the supposed 2-year gap at 125 and 133: first of all, it's a one year gap without Lee, so it would be bigger with him? Second, you get to pick 2 out of Lee, Teasdale, and RBY -- you leaving Lee out? Come on. And that might be a false choice anyway. More likely we would've had less money for Berge in Lee's class.

Of course it is for clicks- it is Flo! They like to be controversial. And they will get the clicks from indignant PSU fans and PSU-haters. They can't miss. Don't give them the satisfaction of complaining. NS is gone, PSU is fine. They would love to be able to devote more of their next podcast to "crazy psu fans don't respect anyone not in blue and white and they trashed poor victim Suriano"

All I can say is that I don't think he was going to beat Gillman last year.. probably the reason for Gillman's let up once he was scratched..

Speaking of grammar...what’s the over/under on when he starts referring to himself in third person? I’m going with his first interview after losing in the round of 12 at NCAAs.

To be fair, Ja, your first and third sentences are missing question marks. ;)

Flying_Tiger says you "would of" known that, except you were probably reading porn during punctuation. :)

So Penn State has one of the best athletic programs in the country, and the best wrestling program, but their trainer’s expertise regarding how to treat an injury is less credible than little Nicky and his Daddy’s? Think about how arrogant one would have to be to believe that.

"Let's face it, Penn State, they tried everything they could to not make it happen. That's a fact."

In related news, the burglary suspect said to ABC5: "Let's face it, the homeowners, they tried everything they could to prevent me from robbing them blind. That's a fact."

Dog...you come up with some outstanding material!:D

Thing is, treating injuries, their can be many approaches. Some Doctors will be more aggressive getting an athlete back in competition, usually it comes with a warning.

The Suriano's were perfectly in their right to seek other medical opinions, however those other medical opinions do not determine if the athlete is cleared to compete at PSU. Clearly PSU if it was as cold hearted as the Suriano's want to make everyone believe, they would have put him on the mat to help win a national championship.

Think about it, we hear all these stories about Doctors associated with various teams medically clearing an athlete to play before they were ready resulting in debilitating injuries and now we have a story were an athlete is complaining that the team Doctor would not clear him to compete.

The clips are supposed to be inflammatory, it's how they get folks to watch.
