Suriano video

I did not watch the video and, to be honest, I'm kind of tired of the whole saga, however intriguing it has been.

That said, there was one comment by Cael that I always thought was a bit odd and maybe even a little revealing about the Cael-Suriano relationship BEFORE the injury occurred.

Immediately after Suriano was injured, before any x-rays, MRIs or other tests had been done on Suriano, Cael kind of minimized the severity of the injury, making a comment like, paraphrasing here, "Nick has never had a big injury before, so he was a bit scared", or something close to that.

What do people make of that? Is it just Cael being evasive about an injury as we know he tends to be? Was the comment more revealing as it suggests that Cael sees Suriano as melodramatic or somewhat of a prima Donna, even before the injury?

I just always found that comment weird, given how severe the injury looked at the time. Did others find it strange or telling? What do you think?

Cael told the truth. Why is that so difficult to accept, that it needs to be embellished?

Can we leave the conspiracy theories to NJ.com?

Right after the NCAA tournament, I decided that Cael, when he said what he said, was trying to tell the public that there is a chance. There is a chance that Suriano is healthy enough to wrestle in the post-season, despite the pessimistic stuff that Suriano had uttered. In other words, I thought it was just a coach doing the coach spin thing. No big deal.

If you are referring to the brief press son. outside Iba--I agree; thought it was not in keeping with his personna in other matters.

that snippet is used in the video....so someone besides chris picked up on it....

I may be off here, but the impression I got from the video was that surgery (pins inserted) was the more aggressive approach and it was PSU position that this MAY allow him to compete at nationals - pins stabilizing the fracture. And that Suriano nixed the surgery and pulled the plug on competing. This was the section where he said he "manned up."

Of course, in retrospect, this could be the position put forward to try to justify the waiver and only became a point of contention when the decision to transfer was made.

My son was torn between two colleges and listed every possible pro and con, he even had who had the best chocolate milk....granted that was the lowest ranking pro/con, but it was on the list (although the school with the best chocolate milk ultimately won out).

There are literally thousands of messages about this kid. Here, on HR, Scout and Scarlet Nation, and all of them are written around rumor, innuendo and hearsay, based off of snippets like this, and largely influenced by what color glasses the writer is wearing. There is nothing left to be said, that hasn't been said already.

He is not a Nittany Lion, didn't like being a Nittany Lion and will never be a Nittany Lion. He is a Scarlet Knight, therefore not one of us and doesn't deserve the time or attention that we could be focusing on the kids that do want to be in our program.

Ignore everything about him. Ignore what he says, what his coaches say and what his fans say. Yes, I know some of that stuff is wrong. Ignore it, we know the stuff that isn't true. I know some of what they say makes our coaches sound bad. Ignore it, we know the kind of program Cael and Co. are running. I know some of their fans are ignorant jackasses. Ignore them, we are better than that.

IMO, the only reason we should be talking about him at this point is about whether he can take out Tomasello if they meet in two or three days. None of the rest of it makes a hill of beans worth of difference to our program. Just bite your lip, swallow your tongue and get over it.

And, should anyone say, "Well, why don't you take your own advice?" This is about us, not him.

I posted on Scarlet Nation that no one (not just Penn State fans) understands why Suriano would leave Penn State for Rutgers and that he's never given an answer for the move that rings true. That's one of the main reasons people keep asking him about it. The only people who profess to understand are Rutgers fans and that's because they are thrilled to have him.

If, for example, Suriano were an Indiana kid and left Penn State to go to Purdue, two things would have happened differently. One, there wouldn't have been an endless stream of promotion from Purdue about the transfer. Two, people in the college wrestling world would have chalked it up to a kid that couldn't cut it being away from home and would have lost interest in the story (because Purdue wouldn't have promoted and spun the story on and on and on and ...).

Instead, we are still getting stories about the transfer. Blah, blah, blah. If Suriano would have been interested in not talking about the transfer any more, he could have turned down the feature and/or said I'm not taking any questions about the transfer. But he didn't because he, and Rutgers, wants the attention. Suriano is never going to tell the "truth" about the transfer. I don't know that he even knows the "truth" about it.

Rutgers can not promote the transfer. Heck, they continue to whistle to themselves as they pass the cemetery hoping nobody ever notices or brings up the full ride before permission to talk to aspect of the story.

Sure he gave an answer, you just don't like the answer. He (his Dad) saw an out with the injury and appealing to the Big Ten, and Suriano wanted to be with, and I quote, "his people". There's your answer.

The team race will have to be VERY dicey for me to root for him against a wrestler I've always liked (NaTo).

We’re still allowed to make cruise liner jokes though, right? :D

Unfortunately RUCreedo will forever be tied to any rumor of any transfer ever. Hall of Fame troll status and not because it was believable but had all boards talking for months. Somewhat similar to Suriano boards but different context. Granted I hate rumors but as a Rutgers fan you live with your worst poster.

If only we had 9 guys who want to be at Penn State, for us to focus on.

As I said above, "Two, people in the college wrestling world would have chalked it up to a kid that couldn't cut it being away from home and would have lost interest in the story." When I went to college, there were lots of kids who couldn't make the adjustment to being away from home. In addition, if a guy who professes a burning desire to be at the top of the podium leaves the school with the best current track record of getting people there for a school that has never gotten a wrestler even to the finals, he must have *really* been homesick.

An answer floated early in the process still makes the most sense. Suriano wanted a lot of attention and wanted to be the center of attention for a program. That was never going to happen at Penn State and clearly *is* happening at Rutgers. When do you think Suriano is going to own up to it?

Your last paragraph is it. There was a big article about him when he was a senior in high school. Talked about how he wanted to be a star, be a celebrity. He got his wish, big fish small pond. He might even reach his individual goal at Rutgers, problem is he could have had so much more at PSU. If he was homesick, just say it and stop talking about it.

If PSU really wanted to stick it to him, they did not have to give him a release to go to Rutgers. So much for trying to do everything to stop him. Maybe he should go eat some Tide pods.

I have absolutely no clue what problems this solves or what questions this answers.....but I am certainly open to learning more. Proceed

I think it's like a flowchart. Different answers depending on the outcome this week.
