When do you think we will know if Suriano will/can go? NCAA has to lock in the qualifiers at some point, right? Will Cael keep Suriano's spot as a "maybe" or announce he can't go so that a qualified kid from another school can step up? What's the protocol here?

If I'm Cael, he is a "game time decision" as late as possible. If Suriano can't injure it further and if he can tolerate whatever pain he may be in, you tape it up and let him get you as many points as possible. You definitely give your team the best shot to win; therefore, you wrestle Suriano.

As an aside, we have enterprising students during past football coaching searches going onto FAA websites to track civilian aircraft going into and out of State College Airport, but we can't get one of you lazy slugs to find out how Nick is "matriculating" himself across campus.

Put down the Bongs and get to work slackers!

Unless Suriano is at risk of sustaining career ending additional injury at nationals, you wrestle him. His season is done regardless, so what is the harm sans the risk.

If his match is anything like a Hunter Stieber match, pull the plug quickly. Tom Ryan ruined him.

It really hasn't been mentioned yet, but one of the reasons Nick could be walking gingerly is due to isolating the ankle after injury - this causes muscles, ligaments and tendons to atrophy and it is quite painful when they first take the isolation cast off (was probably on for 10 days or so) as you are essentially "stretching the joint" back out. Doesn't sound like the swelling and contusions were that bad, which is usually a good sign. But again, the pain when you first start putting weight back on the joint is pretty intense (usually they have you walk with a crutch so you can control how much weight you put on it), but it does dissipate relatively quickly especially if you can bear the pain and get it stretched back out quicker (I'm sure he is also doing rehabbing for both range of motion and re-strengthening).

I am going to begin sounding like other posters who repeatedly repeat themselves, so I apologize.
The difference between 13 days and 25 days in the healing process for a (assuming) sprained ankle is exponential.
If Nick suffered a sprain and not a break I would be knock me out of my seat shocked if he did not wrestle. The lack of, or at least limited time drilling over a 25 day period is IMO the bigger issue.

Not exactly. Saying he has a "sprain" tells you next to nothing. It's incredibly vague and the difference between a grade 1 and grade 3 sprain is monumental.

Exactly. My son (a junior) is in Barcelona. I had asked him to check around before break, but he was too busy trying to get papers done before leaving....or so he said. Couldn't argue with him wanting to get his work done. :)

Thinking this through in my head, I don't think Cael/PSU owes a non-qualifying kid any consideration. Because that kid did not qualify. If there is even a 0.1% chance that Suriano can wake up on tournament Day 1 and make weight and try to wrestle one match, then Cael/PSU should keep Suriano's spot because Suriano earned it.

I would imagine a certain member of this board who's board name rhymes with 'like her' is probably hiding in the bushes around campus keeping tabs on Nick. Or he can just ask Cal when they meet for lunch this week I guess?

You are nit picking, whether 1, 2 or 3 the difference between 13 days and 25 days in the healing process is huge.

Anyhow to answer your concerns.
Grade 1, maybe a week to 10 days to recover.
Grade 3 a complete ligiment tear, probably has a short leg cast or some sort of stabilizing device on leg. I doubt they take the device off just to let him hobble onto the mat.
So unless it is broken (still a possibility, but IMO unlikely due to no stablizing device when he walked onto mat) it is most likely a grade 2 (moderate) sprain. So yeah, the difference from day 13 to 25 is significant as hell. In a 2 he has a partial tear of a ligament, it feels unstable and hurts like hell.
He almost certainly has been doing range of motion since the Wednesday or Thursday after the OSU match. For over a week he has been working on strengthening the ankle and improving his balance on it.
By the end of the week I would bet they have him doing agility drills.
Saturday, Sunday and Monday guarded but increasing drilling on the mat.

I could be seeing things the way I want to see them, and ultimately be full of baloney. This is just my educated guess. Nothing more nothing less.

The Flo guys can think whatever they want! Unless that ankle is broken, he's going to wrestle. This is the NCAA's, this is what these kids dream about. Take some meds, tape that ankle and let's see what happens. I for one thinks he can AA even at 80%. Let me know what you guys think!!

THIS^^^
This Flo pod is nothing more than click bait; they know no more than we do. What I believe is if Nick Suriano takes the mat, he will wrestle. When he wrestles, he will win some matches; probably not to seed, but enough to help the team score. The kid is beyond tough. Go Nick!

I found the following video at flo - Nick does not look like he is walking all that gingerly while walking off the mat. Hit the hotlink below:

All we know is what we saw. A bad limp with 12 days to go.

Again, hope is a good thing but it doesnt look good.

Was at practice and took some notes.
-Usually Suriano is teching or pinning Megaludis. But since his minor injury, he stll beats Nico, just by a major now. Ankles at 99%, though did see Suriano squatting over 500 pounds and doing calve raises with Nevils on his shoulders.

-Even though Law did not qualify, you should see him tossing Conaway around like a rag doll. This kid could start any other D1 school. Total BS he did not make the big dance.

- Jimmy is on fire!!! Man wait til you see him at NCAA's. He is definitely the strongest 141 pounder in college. This was his 5 year plan, to fool everyone until his final NCAA tournament. If you were paying attention he gave us a glimpse when he did pin Heil 5 times in one match!

- Zain is destroying Molinaro in the room, actually its so bad Frank is thinking of quitting and switching to a powerlifting career. Frank even refuses to take bottom and argues with the coaches when they try and convince him to.

-Nolf actually just does stance and motion most of practice. NO ONE will wrestle him. Cunningham used to from what I hear, but he told me he wants to be healthy to see his kids grow up and wrestle.

- Oh man wait til you see what Cenzo does to Imar in thw semis or finals! I am telling you he will pin and destroy Imar. After seeing him train, i seriously think it be better if Imar just med default out of their match. Not a fan of Imar, but i want to see him healthy for next season.

- Mark Hall is going to be a 4 time national champ! Guarantee it! Cael has him wrestle Rasheed and Morelli at the same time! And yet Hall still toys with them. Crazy he spladled both of them at the same time.

- Bo is beating and humiliating Taylor so bad right now. You gotta see DT crying to Kendra after the workout. He is like babbling stuff like BUT I JUST BEAT TWO OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALISTS!!! I am telling you he is going to pin everyone at NCAA's including Dean!

-I only saw half a workout with Cutch. After hammering Mcintosh all over the mat, Morgan packed his bags and told Cael he is going back to California.

-Nevils practiced with two gold medals around his neck. Cael and Varner gave them to Nick cause they felt so unworthy just being on the same mat as Mr. Nevils. After NCAA's I guarantee you Snyder will give his gold medal to Nick also.

Anyway that was a quick rundown what i saw. I GUARANTEE YOU PSU IS 2017 NCAA CHAMPS!!!!!!

Obviously Suriano made weight this past weekend. Are the weigh in numbers published anywhere or are they top guarded secrets? Not certain if he even has to cut or if his walking around weight is around 125. That was my biggest "fear/concern" this weekend, was him making weight and not being able to cardio on his feet to get down. It was a non-problem.

I did have a dream last night that Cael, Nick, and myself were sitting on a picnic table inside a building. Nick mentioned that he was withdrawing, and Cael gave him a great speech telling him he was a winner and was making himself into a real leader at PSU, and that in 4 years, he would be a great man. Nick stood up, said, I'm doing this, and walked behind a wall to weigh in. I then woke up, and Spyer was right beside me, whispering into my ear.

True story above, except Spyker wasn't there, but was probably channeling his PSU Cheerleading through my wife.

And the ankle is not taped in the video.

And probably just out of a cast for an hour or two.

I'm not sure I'd describe it as a bad limp, but he's clearly walking gingerly on that ankle imo.
I think you missed the post where he had to "fake" the limp to be able to Injure Default. This has to be true, because if you were not injured (or look like you are injured), then you can't Injure Default. Also, because it is straight from the word of God to Cael to Spkyer to us (we are not privy to the first two steps).

Holy cow! We know how funny slushhead is. What if Spyker was slushhead's goof identity all along!? It'd be Keyser Soze all over again. In real Internet life.

I'm looking forward to NCAA as much for the wrestling as I am for the debate about Nick's ankle to be over.

One thing I love about Nationals, is that when a wrestler pulls off a great move, there is a reaction from the crowd. You don't have people shouting "Let's go Bo" for a neutral match in Bloomington.
