Talk about an entitled woman......

All she’s doing is complicating things. If she wants to exert a little influence or ask a favor, do it more discretely later.
You may be right. But the opportunity for the professional to professional discussion (IF one was to be had) was BEFORE the car was impounded.

She handled it badly, then took it from bad to worse.

EDIT: and to be clear, asking for the favor of an explanation or perhaps the courtesy of being heard out and having a discussion, is very different from asking for improper "favors." Whether there's a place for FAVORS isn't the topic here. The need to be more discreet later is suggestive. And from what I saw, I didn't see her asking for an improper favor, just acting badly when they wouldn't give an explanation or have a discussion she wanted to have.

We can say we all know what she was really asking for, but she didn't actually ask for that...

I'm surprised the cop told her it was her 'approach' that irritated him - he could have said pound sand and that was that. She started out genuine enough, but IMO, getting into a pissing match with cops and food servers is a juice not worth the squeeze IMO. And once she demanded to be called 'Commissioner'.....

Yeah, I was impressed by the way they handled it.

The "Commissioner" bit..... yeah... We're all on the same page there too...

Wasn't commenting on this specific case. And I agree, police shouldn't have to take shit from entitled citizens just as citizens shouldn't have to take shit from entitled police.

There's a saying, not right here, right now, and with you. It means to chose your battles. Be compliant and wait for your day in court. There are times when cops will test you for various reasons. Their attitude could be and attempt to see if lose your cool. Who knows why you were pulled over, it might not be asimple traffic stop.

It's only going to get worse. In all likelihood, this woman will never get hired again and has humiliated herself and her family. It won't be easy to hide from this in a small town like Tenafly,

Ya think? She runs her own lobbying firm in DC. Doubt that her clients will run away or that she'll have trouble finding new ones. Her behavior is perfectly acceptable in those circles.

People from NY/NJ, that whole tri-state area, are the worst people in America. Self-entited loud mouths.

really? I just don't get broad generalizations like that (not that there haven't been far too many others in this thread). I've found great folks in every state I've been to/lived in, and a-holes in nearly every state as well. I have no problem with people in the tri-state area you specified (there are quite a few tri-state regions in the USA), and have found most of them to be quite nice when I'm visiting that region.

Yeah, that's a broad generalization and there are great people everywhere and a-holes everywhere but I'll stick with that generalization. I work in an industry where I've had to deal with a lot of people from every corner of the country and it's my experience people in the NYC area are the most self-entitled, demanding and uncooperative. Just my experience. Of course my sister-in-law is from New York and the woman in that video has nothing on her so there is that.

And the friendliest, nicest people? That would be Minnesota, Wisconsin and North Dakota. You betcha.

Maybe it's just their reaction to you?
There could be something to that. My experience is if you are too easygoing and friendly they try to walk all over you but if you push back in a firm way they tend to fall in line. It's almost like they expect to be treated like crap. Like I've said there are always exceptions.

and if it were a man who called a female officer sweetheart, that would be the main headline... what a beeotch

JMHO - but this post and the responses have been one of the more enjoyable “reads”!:)

I don't know if she was the only option to be called, but since the car was going to be impounded, they needed to get a ride from someone. Maybe they thought this Mom would be able to influence the outcome, so they chose her. Don't know. Didn't work out as Mom expected, though, which is good to see.

Polite respect and contrition are always helpful with traffic stops - that's always been my only hope whenever I've been pulled over for speeding! (and sometimes it works!)

No way to know from the video, but the behaviors of the young adults in the car didn't seem to be part of the problem based on what was shown.

Kudos to the police for standing their ground firmly and respectfully. Mom pulling the commish card, the Chief of Police card, the MIT and Yale PhD card.... almost worthy of an SNL skit. I wonder if she will feel any embarrassment from how she mishandled this situation? That old dog (speaking as one myself) needs to learn a new trick or two.
You know what those kids should have learned if they are as smart as the Commish thinks they are? Uber. I know it is a big city thing that we poor Mountain Williams dont have, but im guessing Uber in Tenafly is pretty common. Yeah, you don't get to ride in Mommys Escalade, but that Uber guy aint saying Sh!t to the cops. Hes glad for the work. Quicker than listening to mom drain her bladder on the cops, too.

I want the Commish and 4 of her most entitled friends to play a long, slow round at that Golf Course in York.

Just a little experiment.

I think your problem might be a math issue. If 10% of the population are assholes, NYC would have 2,700 assholes per sq mile. North Dakota would have 1 asshole per sq mile.

People per square mile

Wisconsin has 105
Minnesota has 66
North Dakota 11.3
NYC 27,000
New Jersey 1,195
North Jersey near NYC is 3,800

your math looks sound, but your percentage estimate looks very low

Exactly. In her elitist DC circle, that video will be a badge of honor.
Lost her commissioner "job" that doesn't pay anything.... Big deal. Won't impact her real job.
Hopefully the karma train will run her over one day soon.

In York County she would have no problems on the golf course because she is the "right kind of people". There is a history here of the upper elite doing whatever they want and a good percentage of people "below them" kowtowing to them in the hopes of picking up the crumbs.

Not gonna burst your bubble, but being Commissioner of the NY-NJ Port Authority is no small matter. I don't know how good of an administrator she was or wasn't but the NY-NJ Port Authority is a fairly sizable and powerful organization, running three major airports, tunnels and bridges and one of the busiest ports in the US. Being Commissioner is no small matter. It's not like she is president of a school board in some small village in Iowa. However, I would agree that she should not have used her position in this matter.

she and her position are not relevant. she could be an unemployed homeless person, and would have the same rights with respect to the incident and people.
