Teasdale

Maybe Gavin gets Gavin close to home
Keith Gavin is in good shape at both 133 and 141. Maybe Phillippi could go up, but Matthews probably shouldn't.

However, Scott Moore and Tim Flynn could both use 133 help.

Regardless hope it works out for Teasdale.

Seems like a great time to bring this up but a couple buddies and i were discussing the transfers recently (with regards to all that is going on in football). It almost seems as if we live in a society where these young adults dont want to compete to start, but would rather have the starting spot handed to them. Take Jalen Hurts for example, he battled and lost his spot to Tua but he stuck with the team even though he went form a 26-2 starting qb taking his team to 2 national championship games to a back up qb. He got his degree and stuck with the team. He could have transferred when he lost the starting spot but stuck with it. Anyone else have a take on transfers?

I dont know Gavins issue whether itd be physical, mental, drug related, etc. Off mere speculation if the young man is transferring because of the competition, it seems like a lame/cop out excuse and to be the best you have to compete against the best whether be on another team or in your own locker room.

Best of luck Gavin

Sometimes kids are not a fit for a certain program no matter how talented they are! Buy in or find a place that "fits" you better!

If I have to see him in another singlet, I would love to see him go wrestle for Kolat. Think that would be a great fit on a lot of different levels. They are really trying to build something there and he could be on the ground floor. Either way, Gavin was a treat to watch in High School and I only can hope that I get to see him again at the D1 level.

I've said WVU since the summer. Jeff Morgan is about 30 minutes from Morgantown. Flynn is a solid coach, they need a lot of help, and he would have less stress from academics and the bright lights. Hope him the best and he can get this back on track.

Read my mind.

I would guess:

WVU
Lock Haven
Even UPJ / Strittmatter

He's a 125 at the D1 level if he thinks he's a 133 he should go to Johnstown with Strittmatter it will be a great place for him to be mentored. Its not always about wins and losses

He made the SS Championship photo...

...and he made the PSU wrestling roster twice. Not an easy feat.
Not trying to be a smarta**, but this is better and further than 99% of the rest of us.

No one here has any idea why Teasdale is transferring.

As for anyone else, it's the players' decision. If they want to transfer - for whatever reason - that outweighs my desire to have an experienced veteran at the 4th string CB spot.

This is extrememly easy to say for people who aren't paying the bill.

In non-revenue sports, if you don't start, your scholarship money might not remain constant.

Also, your example of Hurts doesn't work -- with the NCAA's new 4 game redshirt rule, he got to have it both ways, and you can bet Saban pitched that to him to keep him there. He got to preserve his shirt, complete his degree, and grad transfer to Oklahoma.

He had some difficulty with 126 last year and reportedly 125 was not his friend this year, but he's gonna be a 125 for more than next year? Alrighty then.

If it's not about wins and losses, then he should be at his most comfortable weight no matter his school.

And if it's UPJ and Strittmatter, then hopefully it's because they're right for him and not because of weight cutting.

I understand the sentiment here '93, but it's probably best to not lump all of these kids into one pile. While there are obvious examples that support your point there are also others like Shakur, Cassar, Verkleeren, Manville and most of the non starting roster who would have found easier paths to the starting line-up elsewhere yet elected to "compete" for the starting role in the toughest room in the country.

While the details of Gavin's situation are not clear it's probably safe to assume that there is more going on here than his willingness or ability to compete for a spot in the PSU room. I wish Gavin well and hope that he is able to find success going forward.

The point about wins and losses was because I mentioned a D2 school .My opinion is Gavin needs wrestling but he also needs to be taken under someones wing and mentored more then anything else. And yes I do think he's a 125 it's hard to manage your weight when everything else is going wrong. When your comfortable in your environment and things are going good weight management is easy

El-Jefe - I have no idea of where his next stop will be. Just curious on your thoughts of Teasdale landing with Kolat at Campbell. Both from the same small town and HS. Perhaps there is a connection there that makes sense?

just an FYI ... Hurts did not preserve his red shirt

Just spit-balling but Campbell with Kolat (J-M Connection)?

Good luck Gavin. Sometimes things don't work out for whatever reason and moving on is the best thing for both parties. The student/athlete gets a fresh start somewhere he feels more comfortable, and the staff frees up dollars and space on the depth chart to bring another kid in who may be a better fit for the program. Win/Win. I have faith that Cael will not only sign some quality future prospects, but will be able to get Teske ready to go at a competitive level next year.

Wish him well.

But, doesn't there seem to be much more ongoing drama and distractions with the very lightweight wrestlers across the whole NCAA field: Gilman, Soriano, Ramos, Teasdale, the Brands, Andrew Long, etcetera?

The weight cut? Body size relative to other wrestlers? A general desire or need to prove oneself?

He didn't preserve his shirt. He used his junior year of eligibility. He will be a grad transfer senior at Oklahoma next year.

FYI, Hurts did not redhsirt this past year. He has 2 years to play 1 at Oklahoma.
