First of all, I am a fan of a different AFC team, and I hate both the Pats and the Steelers. But overturning the Jesse James catch was it for me. It wasn't the protests. It wasn't the commercials. It wasn't the mediocrity of so many of the teams in this league. No one knows what a catch is anymore, and it arises in the biggest regular season game of the year. This league can go F themselves.

Agree... I'm no Steelers fan, in fact I find the NFL little more than Muzak for Sunday... but JJ81 catches the ball, makes a "football move" turning his body and stretching it over the goal-line... that's a TD

NFL blows

yeah they definitely blew it on that call. Getting the ball across the "plane" is when the TD happens, as we see all the time. Clearly he caught the ball and moved it across the plane.

Unbelievable to overturn that call in that situation.

Agreed. I have been slowly tuning out the NFL for awhile now and this game pushed me over. It is not an enjoyable product anymore. I look forward to NCAA bowl season and then I am done until PSU kicks off next year.

it has been consistently called no catch for years now....stupid rule, but consistently called
Nope...not even close. guy catches the ball, controls it, and reaches across the goal line. What if he had caught it on the 15, ran to the one and reached it across the line to a TD when the ball moves? Player caught the ball and reached it across the line.

Horrible call.

That stupid rule applies if you catch the ball along the sidelines "in bounds" but the "out of bounds" causes a player to juggle the football.

Downright goofy rules.

you are completely wrong....he did not complete the catch based on the nfl rule....I hate the rule bit it was absolutely the correct call in the nfl

As soon as the ball crosses the goal line it is a td period!!! It's no different than a Qb reaching over the goal line and someone swatting the ball from their hands

yes it is quite different in the eyes of the nfl rulebook...makes no sense to me and i hate the rule, but itr was called correctly by thestupid but existing nfl rule

Throw in pass interference and it is a big subjective cluster. NCAA has same problem. Drives me nuts.

Didn't he have a similar play against Nebraska Where the bad call cost us the game?

There's a difference. You are not out of bounds when the ball crosses the OOB line. Besides, James catches and brings the ball to his waist before reaching out after landing on the ground

BTW, Connor tore his MCL. Out for the rest of the years.

I'm with you. Over the years I've watched fewer and fewer NFL games to a large degree because of the effect its insanely nit-picky rules have had. But this is the most egregious call I've seen. And don't give me the rules bullshit. If a three-year old can see that he caught the ball, there's nothing that the collective wisdom of the NFL can do that changes that. So from here on in, I watch the Steelers because they are my team. Any other game...not happening. Play-off game? Super Bowl? No Steelers; fvck 'em.

You are correct... I meant to type "but the out of bounds can cause a fumble if you don't maintain possession".

It amazes me how many people don't understand the rules after YEARS of them being in place. If them getting the call correct is the reason you're giving up on the NFL then you were just begging for a reason

I'm pissed at the outcome but blame Davis Ben and James

Not only the nit-pick rules, but the delays caused by long reviews are ruining the game.
maybe but both announcers thought it was a TD. They couldn't believe it was being reviewed. You could tell, after someone told them what was going on, they had a hard time believing that the NFL would NOT call that a TD. Had there been a question that the player didn't catch the ball, that would be different. In no way can there be a question that he didn't catch that ball. Do you have any doubt he didn't' catch the ball and didn't control it before reaching across the goal line.

hell, the Pats didn't believe it either.

What part? Had possession. Made football move with possession. Knee hit with possession. Ball crossed plane with possession. Play over immediately.should be a TD.

wrong...IN THE NFL YOU MUST COMPLETE THE CATCH TO THE GROUND....he did not, stupid rule but correctly calledc...does not matter that he made football rule, or that knee hit wit possession, or that he crossed plane with possession, he did not complete the catch to the ground....IT WAS NOT A CATCH ACCORDING TO THE ASININE NFL RULE THAT WAS CORRECTLT CALLED

Huh? In what wide world of sports can you doubt that was a catch? There is no way, under any definition, that player didn't catch and control the ball. He only reaches out after he realizes he's down, hasn't been downed, and reaches out for the TD.

I blame JoePs, because we all know there would be no instant replay if it wasn't for Joe

Furthermore, once his knee touches the ground (and he's not touched down) and then makes a football move, he's a "runner" not a "receiver". At that point, once the ball crosses the plane, it's a TD.

Horrible, horrible call. What a joke. I haven't been that upset about a call since the "not a TD call" in the PSU-Nebraska game in 2012.

what if he had caught the ball at the 15, ran the ball to the one, falls down, and reaches across the goal line and the ground knocks it out?

He was never "down". While going to the ground and completing the catch he extended his arms and lost control as he hit the ground. That hasn't been a catch in 5-8 years. At least. He knew it. They showed him on the sidelines. He knew like everyone else should have. All on Jesse

Not much gets me angry, but I am really angry that the NFL has made me stop watching their product. F them.

That's a touchdown. Going to the ground s in that situation is completing the catch. Seriously...have people not watched the NFL for about a decade. That wasn't even borderline

So a receiver who catches a ball at the 10 yard line, runs to the end zone untouched, does a flip and drops the ball in the end zone should not be a TD. That is what the rule says. No TD.

Wrong......he secured the catch....made a football move by extending the ball over the goal line....broke the goal line plane..Touchdown. he had control of the ball when his knee was on the ground. It was the wrong call.
