The Most Important Part of the Suriano Developments

I just bought my Rutgers season tickets today (two years ago, I had Penn State, Rutgers and Cornell season tickets, call me crazy if you like), so I'll get to see him no matter what. Whoops. Not if he transfers. I think even the Rutgers fans are bored with the Suriano subject by now.

nitlion6, are you setting me up to be a 'bad journalist' right now?

lol
Smalls , Would a few cocktails and a cheese steak at Deitz's entice you spill your guts ?
I spoke to a pretty knowledgeable Rutgers fan, and he was of the thought it was more a weight issue than anything else. ??Suriano father got mad when Cael went after Keener without discussing with Nick about sucking weight for another year.

Even if it was only to be a backup for Suriano at 133, Keener was a good pickup. C'mon, man.

That is just plain stupid. #1 Suriano would beat Keener to win 133, we know it is Cael's decision as to who wrestles where. #2, Suriano controls if he will be certified to wrestle 125, a summer of the weights and McDonalds eliminates 125 certification. Which gets back to #1 and now Cael would not prevent Suriano from wrestling 133.

Funny...I used this tactic on him a few years ago at Dietz's, but it was it was on wing night...lol.

I agree with you on the concept of who is better and would be winning in wrestleoffs. However coaches do slot guys into weights if it is plausible. I have a feeling that Cael talked to Nick about cutting and it hit a nerve with his father. A feeling of entitlement does come into play when dealing with some parents of superior athletes

Since when did a head coach have to run everything by the team on personnel ? If true This is about keener coming in and the suriano camp is mad Bc they wanted the 133 slot. Then good bye. Who said they brought keener in to start. Could have been for depth. Obviously they worked with Bo on 184. Maybe suriano camp didn't work with the staff on 133????

Agree. If Suriano did not want to wrestle 125, then he can make sure he cannot get certified for 125, pretty simple. The plan was for Bo to go 174 last year, did not get certified for 174, oops! It worked out.

Given that Cael has recruited Nick Lee, Teasdale and RBY, I bet his plan is for Suriano to wrestle 125 all four years, that is a huge logjam of talent in the lower weight classes. The Suriano's know this, I bet were told this when being recruited and agreed with it, etc. I guess the cut was more difficult than Suriano anticipated last year (if the weight class thing is the issue).

I think Cael's plan for weight classes are written in pencil and can change based upon circumstances such as a wrestler growing or filling out.

The plan has to be for Suriano to go 125 this season, that is why they brought Keener in to fill 133. It gives PSU the best chance to win the team title again. Suriano at 125 for 2018 gives the team some options for 2019 (Teske or Glory possibly) or who knows if Teasdale or RBY can make 125 for a year. Where as this year, PSU does not have another option at 125 other than to hope a current member of the team can surprise and rise to the occasion.

I think you're missing the point. It isn't about whether or not he could beat Keener. I could easily see this being an issue where Cael wouldn't want Nick to move up. Think about it....Cael is looking for someone to temporarily fill the hole at 133 left by Cortez and finds Keener who he sells on transferring in. Cael may be a great salesman but no way he gets Keener if it is public knowledge NS is moving up. I could see NS become frustrated if it was known he was looking to move up. Likewise, I could see the coaches frustration if this was brought up only after getting Keener.

What a shame to have a chance to be part of a record breaking team and give up that for any one of the reasons listed as a possibility of why he may leave. When you compare of all the adversity the rest of the team has endured to get to this point it makes you shake your head in disbelief.

This. You are on the cusp of an individual title on a team that could break the all-time team scoring record at NCAAs if things break their way and .....

?

Did anyone else hear what CP said about Nick today on FRL? He said it's confirmed that Nick is still currently enrolled at PSU and taking online classes while training.

If weight class is the issue, Suriano can be butt hurt that Cael did not consult him if he wanted to move up. I would think the plan is to keep Suriano at 125 for at least this year since they do not have an elite recruit or experienced wrestler to wrestle at that weight class this season. Very important with Ohio State being loaded.

As previously posted, if Suriano is against wrestling 125 this season, he just makes sure that he is not certified for 125. Then you have Suriano, Keener and Cortez for 133 and 141. Two out of three are starters.

I don't understand the weight class being the issue (Suriano ultimately controls it), or what Cael said about the injury or training for MMA or the strength coach (Suriano's issue is not strength and conditioning). If he is truly considering transferring it is either he is extremely homesick or it is about money. Probably the latter since most problems come down to money.

Of course since this is the internet we don't know what is true, if anything. All we know is that Suriano is not physically on campus for summer session, he has been working out at the Scarlet Knight Wrestling Club and he is still listed in the PSU directory. I guess we find out in about a month if he is wrestling for PSU in 2017/2018.

The headline reads "Suriano is enrolled" not holding my breath but it does feel as if the tea leaves are with us today for the first time in a long time.
It has been a long, long time. We have endeavored to persevere since the days long past when Teasdale, RBY, Beard, Wittlake, Nevills, and Lee verballed, and when five Champions and the team were crowned. A long, dry, Leaf-less spell it has been. Purple Hearts for everyone on this list. ;)

Indeed Biblical in many ways. 40 days in the desert ( NJ) the prophet Chalkstream spoke to us in tongues. The Romans (Rutgers) played their soulless part. But yea the Prodigal son may return.

It's like crossing the endless salt flats of the Atacama Desert - but way worse!

I'm proud of us. ;)
