Man, it's gonna be so much fun watching the cream rise this season!

Just wondering out loud, though - with the schedule such as it is (no Scuffle, no Midlands, no top ten duals before January) - how long might it be before some guys are seriously tested? Not saying it won't happen, but it may be a while before we really have a clear indication of just how good some guys are.

Suriano will be right out the gate. Agree with CP I expect a win

Don't you mean you are TROLLING out loud? Just like 90% plus of your posts on themat.com? You're as bad as jammenz. You make more posts here and on other sites about PSU than you do about Cornell.

I'll play along:

Zain, Nolf, Nickal: they're the test for everyone else.

First good test for the rest:
- Stanford (11/13): Suriano (Schram), Gulibon (McKenna), Rasheed (Wilson), Stout (Marchok), Nevills (Butler)
- Keystone Classic (11/20): Cortez (Richardson, Forys), Cenzo (Wiercioch), Rasheed (Kent, Sebastian), Stout (Mattiace, Wolfe) -- probably missing a few teams, couldn't find the team list quickly

So, yeah, we should have a decent idea about everyone except Cassar before Thanksgiving.

BTW, a couple curious things I saw on sPitt's roster:
- Mike Racciato is back on the team and at 149.
- Ryan Solomon is still listed as an undersized HWT, which is doubly weird because ...
- John Rizzo is somehow listed at 197. Short of amputation, I have no idea how this is possible. He hasn't been below 215 since junior high -- since at least 2008 -- and that includes time in a college football weight room.

Ah, you flatter me NoVa! I'm no where near as good as Jammenz, but thanks for including me in such lofty company! ;-)

As for the troll label - if asking a pointed question that elicits some well-thought out responses is trolling, then I happily will wear that label! And just to emphasize, I'm not saying any nor even all of the new faces won't rise to the top - just wondering again, when will they really be tested? And when will we really know their ceilings? Nothing negative is implied, IMO, in that.

You make more posts here and on other sites about PSU than you do about Cornell.
Well, uh, yeah... no need to make any Cornell posts here on the PSU forum, I try to save those for the Cornell forum! ;-)

I do hope that no one was seriously offended by my question, but just in case anyone was - I do apologize, I wouldn't want to be accused of being politically incorrect on a wrestling forum - you never know, I may decide to run for President at some future time!

Come on, November!

I don't see the problem here Nova. I can't address your note about content on themat.com b/c I hardly go there anymore, but regardless of what happens on other boards, redblades has always been a gentleman on this one. He comes here for discussion and in my experience has always contributed with class and appreciation for the subtleties and usefulness of the English language. All of which is evident in this post you're attacking today. Everybody reads in different ways, but I see him being genuine here. Was point of fact about the schedule and in inviting discussion, his question included how long til 'seriously tested?' Followed it up with:
- 'not saying it won't happen'
- it *may* be awhile
- until we *really* get a
- *clear* indication of
- *just how good*
- *some guys* are
Even wearing an extra-grumpy hat, I have trouble parsing any of that as trolling.

And bringing in stuff from other boards to this one? I dunno man. Not tryin to wear a board police hat, but this attack seems pretty far out of line.

Well, it's certainly good news that Suriano will have two big tests in November (Schram at Stanford) and December ( Cruz from Lehigh); same with Jimmy (McKenna at Stanford and Cruz at Lehigh). I'd like to see Cortez face better competition before January, but Montoya, Clark, Tomasello and Richards in January and February will tell us all we need to know.

What is up with Joseph, I expected to see him ranked at 165. Watched him wrestle freestyle at the World trials and was impressed. This guy needs to be on the mat as he is very talented. Not saying that the ranking of Moreli at 10 is wrong, but I thought Joseph would be higher talent wise.

I guess the ranking @74 & 84 don't make all that much sense given what we learned a bit earlier. Little surprised how high they have Geno @65.

They probably went with last year's guy until changes are officially announced.

Right, last seen decking OSU's Joe Smith and ASU's Anthony Valencia in back-to-back freestyle matches. Jury week is still out but he'll likely be in the mix this season in a deep and talented weight class, IMHO.

The seperation between Vincenzo and any other PSU 165 consideration is significant and Morelli is wrestling 174 this year, competing with Rasheed for the spot.

Interesting you mention that, because PSU has virtually no depth at 157 and 165. Gary Dinmore is essentially the backup for 149, 157, and 165. Can't exactly project the departure of Law, Hammond, and Beitz, so it happens I guess. And then of course you have Manville deferring enrollment. For some reason, I thought Pipher was going to be a bigger kid.

There's some really good talent in that list.

Subjeck-Joseph should be good. Wrestlestats has Subjeck giving up bonus points only 3 times in his career. 3 majors. Nickal was one of them (12-4). Kokesh and Nate Jackson were the other two. If Subjeck is comfortable at 165, I think he is better than Wiercioch. If Joseph can get to his offense on him consistently, it will be a great sign.

What's wrong with themat.com? This forum and that are the only two that I check. I used to browse the Iowa forum but I got tired of the lunatic fringe over there, lol

I mean, I don't hate it. Just found myself doing the Ignore Skim more and more while scrolling through lists of threads, and then also inside of threads that looked halfway decent...so just faded away for a bit.

Tbar, mostly.
Tbar is Exhibit A of a person who takes every non 100% positive post about his favorite team as a personal affront and intensely believes he can win an argument on the internet.

All that said, pretty funny thread on there now about Gable. I know there are a lot of people who want to think Gable could take your standard farm boy who didn't know a whizzer from a headlock and turn them into champions while Cael just recruits all ready made studs and throws them out there. So one poster took the challenge and rattled off a bevy of studs that, gasp, Gable was able to land. Gable was awesome and is on the Mt Rushmore of American college coaches of any sport, but, hoary legends and the mists of time aside, I'm sure he brought in some pretty sweet recruiting classes even though there weren't standard rankings back then. The anti-Cael arguments are always shifting as he wins more and more. I wonder what they'll be saying if he starts to approach Gable's NC total.

The Dake-Taylor and Bubba discussions seem to reappear roughly every 3 days. Or at least did, I haven't been there in a while because frankly it's a waste of time even by message board standards.

I'll expand on this...

Dual vs Stanford: http://www.wrestlestat.com/compare/dual/60/penn-state/70/stanford
Dual vs Lehigh: http://www.wrestlestat.com/compare/dual/60/penn-state/37/lehigh
Starters-only at Keystone Classic: http://www.wrestlestat.com/event/7253/participants/wrestlers
Starters-only at Reno TOC: http://www.wrestlestat.com/event/7256/participants/wrestlers

Looks like they should shoot up the rankings fairly easily by Jan 1.

I'll go out on a limb and predict that, by the end of the Keystone Classic, Nevills will be rated higher than 43, and Suriano will be slightly higher than 108.

The favorite wrestler by proxy theme (because they are an obstacle to one of our guys) is tried and true.

Nothing Iowa fans haven't had to deal with for decades of course.
