Lots of action so far. Definitely going to get some previews of FCA vs McCourt. Tons if other big time matches also

I thought this thread was about our football squads lame attempt to execute the Philly style brotherly shove in the 1st half….

Carry on

Some notable results so far
Deputy over Matt O'Neill 6-4 at 114
Parkins TF Trey Wagner 25-10. Scored 12 takedowns and 1 escape.
Manville beats Shane Wagner 8-7 in UTB
Consiglio beats Miller 3-2, socring 2 escapes and a technical violation?
Jackson Butler over state medalist Walizer. Butler is very unlikely to start for McCourt in postseason but he is an absolute hammer
Magro beats Singer 2-2 in UTB after riding him out, then loses to Cael Weidemoyer 8-4 in semis, some Faith vs McCourt action

Big Results from Finals
139: M. Gibson over M. Wagner 3-2
145: Manville MD Consiglio 11-0
Consi note: Shane Wagner beats Melvin Miller 5-3 scoring 2 takedowns. Amazing day for Wagner, who was the only guy to push Manville all day and then takes out Miller
The series between the Wagner's and the Gibson/Miller brothers is 1-1
160: Asher beats Cael Weidemoyer 11-6, 4 nearfall and a full third period ride was the difference maker

Pierson looked so tough after the tight match with the Faith wrestler.
Faith and mccort both have great squads and both will have really good kids not even starting.
Gibson looked like a tank and every bit 139 pounds.
Waters is on a different level.
Basset smoked Parkins (both ranked in top 10 in country)
Miller loses on not having a mouth piece, a costly lesson but Pierson would have beat him up if he would have won.
Malvern had some tough light weights. They were sitting right behind us. I was shocked by their wrestlers and coaches foul mouths. Very surprising coming from such a prestigious school. One dad said stuff to his kid, I wouldn’t say to my worst enemy. The kid lost to Deputy which is a state runner up.
Only 3 japenesse kids placed. Poor kids never wrestled folk before.

My biggest question is why doesn’t more wrestlers wrestle in this one.

Good tournament, big take aways are kids exposing small weaknesses for lots of points. Young bucks challenging old hierarchy, 8th graders turning heads (O’Neil), these are the best tournaments of the year.

Do a lot of these kids attend multiple clubs? Seems like Young Guns would've been represented much more in the past at something like that. I know with M2 and Marstellar really taking off, it probably broke up a bit of the monopoly. Just genuinely curious. All 3 are more accomplished than what I'm running, so I'm not being some dick because YG has ties to Iowa or whatever. Is YG becoming more auxiliary training for some guys? Or are they losing market share to the newer clubs?

Both.

Young Guns is definitely losing some to the proliferation of local clubs. And some guys in their territory (notably the Gibsons and Bassetts) train with multiple clubs.

FYI, Young Guns has 5 locations in western PA, and primarily in SW PA. They're now geographically bounded with M2 to the east and Bad Karma (Mark Steen's club) to the NW.

M2 is about an hour NE of the closest YG site, and about 3-3.5 hrs from the furthest. Taylor is drawing kids from across the state, some like Kasak and Desmond commuting 3+ hrs.

Marsteller is in Reading (SE PA). His kids are primarily from Allentown (1 hr) and the Philly suburbs. He's 3 hrs from the nearest YG site, so he's not siphoning any of them -- M2 is much closer for them.

Bad Karma seems to have shifted their focus to more of the Grove City area after what appears to have been some level of a falling out with the Reynolds program. They still have some Reynolds kids coming in to train, but it appears as though there’s more of a concentration of Grove City kids than there use to be.

I’m not super knowledgeable about the situation, so a lot of this is observation/hearsay, but from what I’ve gathered some guy with very strong Pitt ties offered to/decided to build a new training center (Camp Reynolds) in Greenville to attract kids to Reynolds and later funnel them to Pitt. It created friction between Reynolds and BK so Steen refocused his attention. He got in with Wes Phipps and Grove City while also maintaining his footholds further north in Titusville and Erie. They still have studs training with them like the Hohman boys, the Hamilton brothers, Sierra Chiesa, and Chase Karenbauer so BK should still be relevant on the national stage for a while.

I think since you were sitting so close, you know what the true story is. The issue is Bassett took offense to Miller losing, go as far to say something to the affect that Miller was 'still a Freshman', and don't be celebrating this win. Funny that this came from him, since the literal minute one of his kids wins something, he is all over social media bragging, and posting videos of the matches, and putting himself in every picture with the winner (to be sure he gets credit and glory). Best part is that it was OK to post about Miller winning S32 as a Freshman (which is most certainly a great accomplishment), so turn about is fair play for him losing. Can't have it both ways. And the only foul language was from the McCort corner. Guess you didn't see the Uncle and Bill come across the mat at the Malvern corner? And if you are who I think you are, you shouldn't be throwing stones from that glass house of yours.

No comment Brock? I guess it was cool to bash Malvern and a dad, but nothing to say when the truth eventually comes out.
Well I wasn't part of the original discussion, but can say with confidence that bad behavior and double-standards are abundant with certain of the adults in both groups. I'm friends with Malvern parents past and present who did and do use shockingly bad language to their own kids, to refs and in general public comments. Have not seen much profanity from BMC folks (one exception in my experience), but there is a pretty profound lack of self-awareness when it comes to dishing versus taking criticism among both groups. If you want to promote your wresters as 8th grade or freshmen prodigies all over social media, don't lose your mind when people comment when you're kids lose, when someone points out the kid is older than most kids the grade above or many two grades above, or when people point out that a kid who wins a major event is young for the grade level.

I've developed a healthy level of respect for what both programs (and others similarly situated) have achieved and the talent they've developed, but am so tired of all of the so-called tough guys who can dish on other kids and programs who do things differently but can't handle the slightest criticism.

Actually that is a great take on the state of wrestling in general. I wish people just let the kids wrestle, and not resort to social media bragging so much. Let the kids own their own sport and career
