This could have gotten me in trouble. Say nothing.

foot binding is torture. Dreadlocks and baggy pants are not.
First of all, IIRC, nobody in this thread criticized dreadlocks. Secondly, of course wearing baggy pants is not torture. People who expose their underwear are merely disrespectful of others and otherwise might be good people. But the point is that it's objectionable. And you say it's racist to object to something that is specific to people of one color, which is bulls#@t.

disrespectful? To your white bread tastes?

No. Black people find it disrespectful, too. Obama publicly stated this, and there were publicity campaigns led by black people telling people to pull their pants up. I would bet that many blacks would be offended that you assume that they are OK with acting like a jerk in public. It's a pretty condescending assumption, actually.

Again, you dodge the question.
Ok sweetie. You’re pretty insecure, but I imagine that is why you are still going on here. Apparently you have a ton of people walking around naked or in their underwear as to keep going on like you are. It’s cute watching this though. So by all means keep wearing that ignorance badge with such pride. I mean who are “they” to not dress to your standards.

I'm insecure? I'm not the one who needs everyone on this board to know that I live in a wealthy town. As for "still going on here," it takes two to tango. And once again, you dodge the question.

I moved over a decade ago. LOL. Your question was so f-ing stupid, it doesn’t require a response. Did you really think you were making any point with that question? Answer that because if you did, you have other issues other than being an old uptight guy. I bet you hate the beach too, damn bikinis scare your uptight arse.

I'm quite OK with the beach. Nude beaches, too. You continue to miss the point. I would explain it to you if you would answer the question.

I was pulling out of a parking lot yesterday when a young African American male walked by. His jeans were down below his ass in the back, exposing his underwear. Literally, his whole ass covered by underwear was exposed. Ridiculous and gross.

For a split second, I thought about rolling down my window and telling him to pull up his pants. Then I thought the better of it. I could see being labeled RACIST. and the situation making its way to social media. Just what I would need, of course. Perhaps more relevant, it wasn’t my business. I didn’t know the guy, and it’s not like he was in my living room.

Sometimes, many times, it’s best to resist the temptation and say nothing.
At least he didn't fart out a rap song.

I saw the same thing in church today. Couldn’t figure out what was going on with this guy. He was old and white. I too thought the better of it. The time and place may have been wrong. Thankfully he was wearing extra long dress shirts. I never saw anyone wear a belt around their legs before.

Both sides have a point: YES, wearing your pants halfway down your ass is ridiculous; BUT, it's not even in style anymore -- can't remember the last time I saw a kid with that look; NO, it's not a moral issue and not worth a moment of handwringing; YES, it would be dumb to call a kid out on that.

I mean, seriously, what with all the screwed-up stuff happening in the world, this is NOT a hill to die on.

Anyway, it's nice that even with all the insults flying back and forth, the "racism" angle was not emphasized. We're making progress here.

less personally gratifying at times though

I don’t get why anyone cares about this stuff? The guy can dress however he wants. You’re probably never going to see him again. Saying something to a person like that would never even cross my mind. You see a person for 5 whole seconds of your life and your first instinct is to criticize him in public?

WTF?

yep, its pretty common to have that urge. Pretty normal impulse to correct when individuals fall outside of cultural norms. Most people with class resist the urge and keep their ****ing mouth shut and thus avoid conflict and headache.

people aren’t assholes for having stupid impulses... they are jerks for acting.

but thanks for playing thought police.

Odd how much you bring up racism. Is that a big issue or something for you? Racism is real. Bigots exist. Some play the card too frequently and some don’t realize they are racist. Dreads, how people dress.... people are for some reason afraid of those not like them. They are a product of their up bringing and generations. The world and people are forever evolving.

A lot of wisdom here, even if I don't agree with you 100%. Certainly people with sagging pants are not a major problem. As for calling out a kid for doing it, I guess it depends what you mean by that. Part of the problem today is people are hypersensitive to disagreement or criticism. You can even be labeled a "hater" for criticizing someone, which is ridiculous. I don't think it's wrong to say to a kid "Son, why do you want to show everybody your underwear? You make a lot of people uncomfortable by doing that."

Again who walks up to strangers and tells them how to dress or wear their hair? Or sends them a letter? Only a complete a-hole would do that. I imagine some think they would but instead do it behind a keyboard. It makes them feel like they are saying something to someone when they really are not. It allows them to release their fake outrage much like the OP did.

Don't bring hair into this. Nobody said anything about hair. If you can't see the difference between exposing your underwear and having a certain hairstyle, then you are beyond help.

LOL, boxers scare you. We got it. Just keep being a keyboard warrior on this apparent epidemic by you. Seriously, get a grip.

LaJolla, if you check the record, going back to the last pissing contest about the Johnstown guy, you'll see that I was not the one using or implying the r-word -- it was coming from people on the other side of the argument.

Yes, racists and bigots exist. In fact, they even exist on your side of the divide. It's precisely because I understand the immorality of racism and its seriousness that I am angered when the accusation is made frivolously or for political ends.

That said, we can agree that some play the racism card too frequently and some don't own up to their racism. Such failings are actually not unique to white people. In fact, racism, or at least its temptation, arises out of a primal suspicion in human nature of those not like us and is present in all colors of our species -- regardless of hairstyles or fashion preferences.

Well just your implying that you know where my side is kind of shows your prejudice, but you probably can’t see that either.
