Thoughts on Minnesota, Missouri, PSU history, and why our media sucks

NOT to enter a discussion on this - but the "conservative" Icon was anything but that. As a person he identified as such but his actions were always the compete opposite. Although in a truer definition of such he would have been so. NOT in the definition used today !!! But everyone will "think" as they wish :) Very few EVER truly "look in a mirror" or have a skewed and dishonest view. He certainly did not.

Joe was a die hard Republican. When I saw him introduce the first President Bush during his re-election campaign in 1992, Joe got a much more raucous cheer at Old Main that the sitting President.

I think lazier people attached that to some type of pigeon holed political ideology. Joe was very progressive on many issues. But him supporting African American athletes, or women, doesn't fit in the narrative people like Jenkins, Brennan, or Hill want to shovel upon the public.

A common problem on any side of the political aisle these days. it's easier to insult and defame than it is to have a true debate on issues. I try to be at least half as skeptical of my own side as I am of the other side.

Paterno was a Renassaince man and was often early on controversial issues because he was very vocal. He certainly was involved with many racial issues in the fifties and sixties. He was involved in promoting the student athlete concept when others shuttered. He called one US president out and nominated another. He could have been a damn good governor or US Senator. He was in the middle of a lot of things that were controversial in their time. He championed a playoff system, he championed recruiting reform yet was the first to encourage early commitments. He rued against freshman eligibility yet used it many times. He wanted instant replay and was never shy about calling out incompetent officials. He wanted an all eastern conference and then bolted to B1G. He was suspicious of the NCAA gaining too much power. He was very suspicious of the media long before it became common place. Funny how acceptable it is for Saban and Belichek to do what JoePa did years before. Look who our next president will be? He completely distrusts the media. I don't remember Bear, Woody, Bo and others being so vocal over social issues. We will never see another like him. His star, again, will rise in due time cause there isn't anything that needs to be hidden. He always was what you saw.
