I don’t understand why this forum tears down Brands. It is in our best interest to convince the Iowa fan base that he’s really good. I wish they’d offer him a lifetime contract. Think of what would happen if they fired the Brands bros and hired David Taylor. The Hawkeyes would surge. . . . Is that what you want??? Common, get with the program and let Iowa know they’ve got the best. :):):)

Perhaps the announcer should have blasted TNT by ACDC prior to the match.....you know in celebration of all their accomplishments :)

I admit that I was not a fan of the Brands earlier in their career. They acted like assclowns mat side. But, they have cleaned up their act considerably and I like their passion for the sport.

The Brands ate great coaches indeed. Every bit as good as Cael.

The Brands are indeed great coaches. But based on what "metric" do you think they are as good as Cael? Certainly not as good as Cael in producing national championship teams.

They just lack Cael results, lack Cael's recruiting prowess, lack the offensive fire power his teams possess in spades, technical mastery of the mat, ability to create a dual like last weeks against Ohio State or come close to competing for a National title in the past 8 yrs and for the foreseeable future or infinity.... which ever you prefer. Yes, they're almost identical.

Then we all agree. They are even gooder than Cael...

As long as Tom Brand's team is finishing behind Penn State, I'm one of his fans :)

P.s. neither am I going to say that the Iowa coaches are good. Unlike the cynic above, I mean it, because he has an excellent record.

They are gooder at being ass clown's at the edge of the mat... as if they're clown act gets their wrestler to wrestle better. I'm wondering why they do it. Their guy was getting ridden like a circus pony and they're at the edge of the mat urging him to get ridden harder. Screaming at him, as his face is mashed into the mat. Makes Tom Ryan look like Cool Hand Luke.

Other than that how was the play Mrs. Lincoln?

Cael is certainly the best recruiter. I will give him that.
You add in Jason Nolf and Cael recruits to make the Iowa dual a yearly exhibition.

Whatever Tom Brands was coaching your wrestlers to do... I was mat side, I didn't see any example of Tom Brand's coaching mastery. I saw starters getting pinned in less than a minute and backing up like Iowa's wrestlers were afraid of what was coming. Jason Nolf would have taken apart your 2nd best wrestler, Cenzo made an agressive mistake and you're left with Spencer Lee. Did Tom Brands coach up Spencer Lee?

I'll go with what you're posters on HR are saying. There are wrestlers on Iowa's line up that wouldn't sniff the starting line up for Penn State's line up or Ohio States. Just take the result, minus Penn State's best wrestler in the line up and get how close the Brand's stand to Cael, Cody and Casey Cunningham. About the distance from the National Championship trophy to the toilet.

Like last night? Engaging with Penn State fans in shouting matches, constantly carping at the referee, continually standing and leaving the coaching area during the match, making questionable gestures to the Penn State fans when Penn State clinched the match, jogging out of the arena and skipping the post-match handshakes (as Terry did last night). I'm glad they've cleaned up their act considerably. Must have a real s*$*show before.

Don't get worked up over one Iowa fan's opinion Amalone. I remember Cael as head coach at ISU. That was before many on here care to remember. Cael moved into the wrestling capital of USA and the bigtime recruiting really took off. Im 100% positive if the likes of Bo Nickal, Hall, Joseph, Zain, Nolf, Taylor, Ruth ect went to Iowa Tom would get = results out of those guys. Recruiting is by far the biggest part of winning titles.

Yes they are. That's my opinion.
And Iowa fans in mass on HR are wondering when Iowa is going to be relevant again. That must be a sign of their greatness? o_O

As Cael's wrestlers pin, wrestle circles around and pound on you, year, after year, after year. We've had this discussion for the past 7 years. When is the resurrection coming? I don't see the enthusiasm in your wrestlers and the coach, that you have. How many National Titles in a row for Cael and company before you dimly see the light? How many match wins in a row over the rest in the country and Iowa, how many more National Titles won by Penn State is it going to take? I'd love to know? As chronicled on HR, most Iowa fans have resolved themselves to knowing it's not going to get better anytime soon.

No they're not. that's ridiculous.

If WildTurk says the Brands ate good coaches, they ate good coaches (some every bit as good as Cael apparently) - good enough for me. Of course, that makes them cannibals, which is much worse than anyone else has ever said about them (at least I think so).

And Bill Belichek is nothing but good at the draft and free agency. If your view makes you happy, fine. The last time I looked the idea was to win . Maybe not.
Sports are about participation, not winning. You’re too old school like Cael. The Brands get the new way of thinking. After all, they hand out several participation trophies every year, but only one title trophy. More chances to win one of those.

Guys...we like and support our coach and Turk is going to bat for his coaches. That is what makes sports great. Fans supporting their teams, in a positive way. No need to try and convince him Cael is better. Enjoy him as our coach. I will take 1000 Turks over the other HR poster who has been clogging up the board.

That was almost a decade ago... You have to move on... bro. I respect your love of what Iowa used to be. But it's a product of diminishing return and the disparity in results for both teams is painfully glaring. Saying Tom Brand's is a good coach is like saying mediocrity is good and that's good for Iowa. Go tell Dan Gable that... at the next snooze fest of an Iowa match. Please.

I feel spoiled because of Cael and his team's. Notice I didn't mention team, all his teams have made me feel spoiled rotten. From David Taylor... to Ed Ruth to Quentin Wright to Frank Molinaro to Nico Megaludis to James English, to the current team. National Champions, National Team titles, 44 match win streak and a never ending scenario to that story of riches. Please.

Admittedly, I was not watching their antics last night. But, that is my overall impression not specific to last night.

As a first time HC, Cael did really well in his first three years at Iowa State, especially since he was up against a Dan Gable-coached Iowa team that had the true double recruiting class two of those years.

The analysis of how the various programs have done with top recruits was posted last year here - Penn State has done better with their top recruits than any other school and by a wide margin. So, no, it's two parts. Recruiting and development and Cael has done better at both since he's been at Penn State.

I, unfortunately, was sitting in a seat that forced me to watch their antics, as they were directly between me and the action on the mat (often standing and blocking the views of a lot of paying customers, including me).

Brands knew he was limited at Virginia Tech, so he moved to Iowa. Cael knew he was limited at Iowa State, so he moved to Penn State. They both made moves to enhance their careers.

UGHH! Sorry man, that had to be sh!tty. Well...at least you got to see them up close... when they lost to PSU.:D

Then Tom Brand's won't beat Penn State because he can't recruit to Cael's level. Iowa can't consistently recruit with Cael... and I'll take last nights results every years because of that fact.

What do you think will happen when Penn State reloads with Adam Busiello, Gavin Teasdale, Roman Bravo-Young, Brady Berge, Michael Beard, Aaron Brooks? I'm not expecting the results to be much different.

The Brands Brothers are good for Wrestling. Period. That dual you saw last night will happen every year either here or there, the Brands Brothers get it.
Well we already know that match isn't going to happen every year. We are just a couple years removed from Brands not being willing to reciprocate Penn State's off schedule year's visit to Iowa City.

Next season Iowa is again not on PSU's B1G schedule. If Brands again refuses to reciprocate the match will not happen.

Great typo, adds some meaning to this pic. Also makes you wonder where did J Rob disappear to anyway?

Why is it everytime you addresss me over the years on the forums you try to make me feel bad for being a Hawkeye fan and supporting my team? You try to convince me Iowa is fading away to nothingness. Iowa isn't going anywhere, and neither am I. Iowa fan forever! Go Hawks!

Yeah... Iowa's where they should be and I guess so are you. Thanks. Iowa results speak for themselves.

And when you over state, over embellish or make statements that are completely false on our site, you should be corrected or we should at least, the very least, discuss reality.

It's called an intervention I believe.

17 more national titles and your results will equal Iowa's. So cocky
At least Cael's on pace and you'll live to get to see it.

And living in one's past hasn't shown any possible future success for your beloved team. I know you're a Hawk for life... you told me that 7 years ago. I get it.
