I don't see Amalone's posts in the same way as you do. All he is truthfully saying is that Cael is now the top dog in wrestling and the Brands have been relegated to a position behind him.
Amalone and myself have given credit to Iowa as a really good wrestling school with a great history. In other words, Iowa is ancient history (relatively speaking) and Penn State is "current events" great. Just different periods in history.
You had Gable, we now have Cael. It's that simple.
will you? I try not to predict the future that far out, although i do have a 5 year personal improvement plan in place! A lot can change in that amount of time
But, he won't ever live to see Iowa on par with Oklahoma State in terms of winning National Championships.
I will as most will. You will and we can talk about it at that time. What will change about that? And I know Iowa's not changing... or evolving. I feel comfortable in my own skin saying that.

If the match doesn’t happen I will stand corrected for sure. I think they bring passion, entertainment, and a solid dose of pride to college wrestling. Iowa isn’t PSU for sure, no program is but given what they have to work with, they prepare their kids to wrestle. Yes, I am not a fan of their style any more than you are. I thought they came to compete last night, that’s all you can ask.

Well, that changes things. Was with someone for 7 years. Wanted her grandmothers ring reset. Cost me $200. Next one was more expensive by a zero and then some. A life partner is a wonderful thing.... waking up to that SAME beautiful face EVERY morning FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE and then looking forward to coming home to it EACH and EVERY day of what is...hopefully...a VERY VERY VERY long life for the both of you. I’m almost envious of you and wished I could go back and relive the bliss I’ve experienced all over again....

Quite frankly, I don't give a damn what the brothers do. They can motivate and coach however they want. I'm just trying to get all the roids and slush fund money out of our program. It's just wrong.
The cool thing is. It makes no difference what you, HR or whatever gives the man.
At the end of all the debate is the record, the math. He recruits better and his recruits as a group outperform other team's recruits. No matter how you slice it, better performance is simply a better way of saying stronger development.
Recruiting and development are simply 2 parts of the overall equation to success.
Our guys routinely beat your guys. There is not much more to discuss.

Did you know that since Cael arrived at Penn State the Lions have won more individual NCAA titles than the Hawks have won individual B1G titles ?

Cael would NEVER say throw me....He does NOT NEED the attention....He is the most respected Coach in the country even by his peers....Iowa BETTER worry about Iowa State a lot more then PSU now !!!! Kids want to go somewhere and enjoy the sport...Brands makes wrestlers HATE the sport after a couple years....I do not see him being in Iowa 2 to 3 years from now. Iowa fans have finally caught up to his ACT....
You think the ring is expensive, just wait until the wedding bills start arriving ... if only Iowa had a slush fund.

Don't start this crap again. It's old and tired, and makes the board look bad. Brands is a hell of a coach, and no one is running him out of town.
There are several things about Iowa that makes beating them so much fun.
I posted several times yesterday they would walk into BJC thinking they were going to win and they would give it a legitimate go. They come to wrestle. From 125 thru 165 they had not given an inch. Mark, Bo and Shakur then just ripped the damn thing away from the Hawks.
The Hawks' willingness to compete and being competitive is part of what makes beating them so much fun. The idiocy of HR is an extremely satisfying, but secondary source of fun.

Some of you PSU guys really make the rest of us look bad. We had a great, great dual meet on Saturday and every single Hawkeye wrestler * fought hard. Much harder than OSU, IMO, since they were more overmatched.
Marinelli went out and stunned our guy and some of you guys had nothing better to do but chirp at Iowa fans about how out-coached Iowa is? Act like you've been there before. Good grief. Marinelli sure looked prepared to take advantage of his opportunities. That says something about coaching.

Ha! That's pretty humorous. They are every bit as good as the coach who's been kicking their a**** since 2011?
The word great is thrown around way too easily these days. The Brands were GREAT wrestlers, but they're not great coaches, more accurately they're very good coaches. Now Cael was a GREAT wrestler and IS a GREAT coach.
I can agree and disagree with this post, and will push back a little. Some Hawks wrestle with spirit. Is that coaching or individual effort? Some Hawks walk into cradles. Is that coaching or individual lack of effort? Is Sorenson "mentally accepting" defeat a coaching or wrestler issue? Losing 174 and 184 by a combined 1:50 in time, was that a coaching or wrestler issue? The fact that the Hawks up and down the lineup do not generate as much offense as some other teams, is that individual performance or coaching? Every Hawk did NOT wrestle hard on Saturday as you say. Half the team did so imo. Some of those questions have Brands as the answer, while others are individual effort.
That said, Tom Brands is still a great coach. Easily top 5. Technique-wise, I'd say top 2. Where he falters is in two areas: One, a lack of long term vision on how and with whom he wants to go to war each season. Does he want grinders or does he want guys who lay it on the line every time looking to make decisions into majors and techs into pins? The answer to that question naturally would lead him to the recruits he needs. (I believe he gets this now) Two, he needs to find an upper weight coach who can coach those guys up. The trend I see under Brands is that Iowa steadily gets weaker as weight class increases, and only individual achievement bucks that trend. Evans was better than three 6th place finishes is just one example. I thought he was a little slow with his feet so that I didn't think he'd be a 3-timer, but he was better than the hardware on his shelf. What happened there is a legitimate question to ask.
