Tommy Stevens Era

I haven't seen Tommy excel in the passing game and that's supposed to be his primary role. Actually, he's pretty average with only a 50% completion rate. He has a lot he needs to improve before he's the starting QB.

I LOVE McSorely and glad he was able to bring us back to national prominence and a B1G title... but boy I really want the Tommy Stevens Era to begin next year.
Hopefully when Tommy gets the opportunity he can be 75% of what Trace has been to this program. Because at 75% he’ll be better than most of the QBs we’ve ever had in this program.

To be fair regarding Tommy’s stats yesterday, two of the incompletions were blatant drops by Irv Charles and Saeed. On the other hand, another of his incompletions could’ve easily been picked (I think a CB jumped a curl route down the left sideline or something)

Is everyone 100% sure Mcsorley comes back next year, or 99%? I’m in the 99% camp. He could call it a career. It happens occasionally

McSorley could also had two of his passes returned for pick-six'es sir.

You know there was a lot of complaints (including from SDSU) about him even being a finalist for the Doak Walker, right?

SDSU and their vaunted schedule...

The player who made the comment, I understand his beef. Penny rushing for 2000 is a big deal. Still, 75% of their schedule is garbage in comparison to a P5 conference slate.

Beating Stanford and only scoring 3 vs a non-Carr brother led Fresno State is mind boggling.

The status quo (red-zone package) seems to be working well for Tommy, though I'm at a loss to understand why the coaches wouldn't use it in the big games. I don't view Tommy as "second string," so I'd trust his entry into the game as much as any other.

I've decided to view the situation positively:

- I think the package gets expanded and becomes more prevalent next year, or at least I would hope so.

- The silver lining to not being the starter in a QB-run system is that there is less chance of (an NFL) career-ending injury. Playing too much, too early can even lead to developing bad habits.

- Tommy has NFL measurables and can make all of the throws, including those that require touch. His stats will be as good as any when he plays more, especially with the incoming group of receivers. He'll be tough to bring down in the pocket, much like Ben Rothlisberger. A season as the full-time starter will be plenty for the NFL scouts, and he'll have a better supporting cast (OL).

- He doesn't transfer. It's easy to see the support he gets from teammates. Friends matter a lot at his age.

I get what you're saying. I'm just not convinced he goes even if I believe he's the best player in the country.

Barkley finished with a little over 1100 rushing. We'll see if the receiving yards and kick returns is enough to get him an invite. I'm guessing Love wins the Doak Walker & Mayfield the Heisman

If he does transfer I won't hold it against him. QBs move on if they don't start. Friends don't disappear because you don't live in the same town as them...if they do they weren't worth having as friends.

You might be right. Not unusual to see two kids sitting in the same room texting each other, so I guess it doesn't matter any more if one is in Alabama and the other in PA.

Stevens may be able to graduate next Spring due to early enrollment.

He would make an attractive grad transfer candidate.

Call it a career and do what? Graduate and use his finance degree? He isn't leaving early for the league and he's a competitive guy. There's plenty left for him to try and accomplish in college (another big ten title, playoff birth, national title, heisman) to drive him.

Maybe so, but I note that Fresno State is now ranked in the AP Poll. That probably helps Penny's case a bit. I'm resigned to the fact that Saquon won't get the Heisman, but I hope he at least gets invited to New York. More importantly, I am excited to see him getting drafted in the Top 3, and getting PAID. That will be the ultimate proof of his worth.

I would say he will be back...unfinished business.
Yeah if I'm McSorley I'm thinking gee we were 4 points from being in the playoff

That's the carrot....McSorley wants to get there and he's probably confident that we're close

I’d hate to think that his worth is measured in his draft stock. Solid dude that has already made a remarkable impact on the world. I hope when he gets fame and fortune he keeps his head on straight.

Not certain how the Heisman voters will treat Penny, but it was the Doak Walker people excluding Penny from the finalist list that sparked the comments from the former SDSU RB (his name escapes me at the moment). Fresno getting ranked this late is more than likely a result of they simply received enough votes to garner a spot. I don't even know what their record is without looking nor a single player on their team. I don't think they have been televised at all this year.
