Believe the cost of renovating the football facilities went from $18mm, to $35mm, to $70mm presumably because the scope of the project increased over time. While I don't doubt that this money was raised through donations, I'm wondering if Barron, Barbour & Co shot their wad on this, which, perhaps, is why we are hearing nothing on the larger Master Plan (which is going to cost a helluva lot more than $70mm if brought to full fruition).

You would be shocked at how little that $70 Million is getting (I’ll probably Blog the details when I get time)..... and, most certainly, those $$$$ have not been “philanthropied”. :)

The Holuba project? You’d swear they musta’ misplaced a decimal on that $11 million figure

It's PSU; nothing would surprise me.

Details would be much appreciated. Any chance of before/after pictures?

Why do we need any type of museum that costs at least $71 million at PennState? That is throwing money away and doesn’t improve education or athletics.

Agree with you. It would be a replacement for Palmer. Bigger, blah blah blah.

Why?

It would appear that the answer that is closest to the truth is:
“The idea gives Barron wood”

Soft wood - like Balsa - but it makes him smile nonetheless :)
Just curious since I don’t live anywhere close to State College. Where is the next closest (in Central Pa) art museum currently which would rival the Palmer Museum?

So basically, barren’s got this. Give early, often, and in large sums.

Well thats interesting. Thank you I did not know that.
Any idea who or is it also anonymous?
Probably several donors:

Per Bleacher Report:
A renovation plan for Penn State’s football facilities has been approved by the university’s Board of Trustees Committee on Finance, Business and Capital Planning, according to a report from PennLive.com.

The approval for the $69 million multi-phased renovation project came on Thursday and an approval vote from the full Board of Trustees is scheduled for Friday. If approved, the renovation is planned to begin this summer.

Renovations will come to the Lasch Building, outdoor practice fields, Holuba Hall and indoor turf practice space. There is no completion date set at this time, according to the report.

PennLive.com is reporting that most of project will be funded by private donations.

From PennLive.com:

“This phase of the Lasch renovations will include an expansion of the strength and conditioning facility and upgrades to the coaches’ offices and meeting rooms used by coaches, staff and student-athletes.

“The Lasch outdoor practice fields project will include leveling the grass fields to eliminate the existing slope, providing a full rotation of natural turf to accommodate multiple orientations of the fields, and providing permanent filming platforms, as well as an outdoor training hill.”

HOK of Philadelphia, a firm that specializes in architecture, engineering, and planning has been approved to design the upgrades and renovations

And from State College.com
While no official cost has been set, Sitzabee estimated that the Lasch project in total would cost between $45 and $46 million.

“The renovations already completed in Lasch Building have played a critical role in helping develop our student-athletes and build one of the top football programs in the nation,” Coach James Franklin said in a statement. “To sustain and strengthen our successes, we need to keep investing to give our students and staff all the tools they need for us to win at the very highest level, on and off the field.”

Improvements to the 33-year-old Holuba Hall will include upgrades on both the interior and exterior of the building including a new skin covering the facility. Additional restrooms and spectator facilities will be included. While no project costs have been set, Sitzabee cited a potential budget of roughly $11 million.

The practice fields, which are not completely flat at their middles for drainage purposes, would be flattened in order to allow the field to be rotated during the year in an effort to extend the lifetime of the grounds. Permanent filming structures as well as upgraded lighting and other assets would be put in place as well.

Once designs are completed, Penn State and Athletic Director Sandy Barbour will make those renderings public as the department enters the fundraising portion of the plan.

“Investing in our athletic facilities will continue to be a very high priority for Penn State Athletics in the years to come,” Athletic Director Sandy Barbour said. “We need to continue to provide our student-athletes with the quality of facilities that match the national championship-caliber programs we desire across all 31 sports. We’re very appreciative of the support we’ve received, and will continue to seek, for the Football Excellence Fund. Our passionate community clearly see the renovations to the Lasch Building and the football complex as essential resources our students need to achieve great success in the classroom and competition.”

But you need it to recruit kids to the school.

Wait a minute! So this $69mm is on top of the $35mm already approved and presumably spent (or is it only $18mm? Honestly this shit is too hard to keep track of)? Just by way of reference, Clemson spent $55mm on its funhouse.

Barry? Barry? Barry?

You must not be aware how expensive paint is.

You’re illiteracy is astounding. :) (BTW: I musta’ missed you at the Board meetings today. I looked for someone with an “I’m with Stoopid” t-shirt, figuring you’d be close by, but I didn’t see anyone so-attired)

1) Babs claims they have raised $28 mill ......
SINCE 2015.
Let’s assume, for the moment, she is 100% legit **

2) How much have they spent on projects over the last 4 years? Nothing? Nothing?
Does someone have late-stage Alzheimer’s?
LOL

3) Even if they HAD spent $0 over tha last four years :) , that would mean they have about $0.40 on the dollar raised via donations.

Actual amount spent? If we go back over the projects for the last 4 years?....... just about $28 million. :)

ie : They’ve got just about ZERO dollars available (WHICH ONE KNOWS IF THEY EVER LOOKED AT THE PSU FINANCIALS - - - which I’ve linked in for folks like intellectually-retarded NitWit several times)

**. NitWit apparently never learned his lessons wrt the “Fundraising Shell Game” that was exposed in the BOT Committee teleconference :)

Now, that’s about all that I can deal with from the NitWit moron.
So “shit-for-brains” goes back to the Sin Bin.
Was that you I saw in the special section reserved for Idiots with Personality Disorders? Btw, how is your campaign for trustee going?

Enters (def) - begin to be involved in

They should spend even more football money on the museum so that the higher program costs make paying the athletes look even more problematic. Barron is actually slacking on this one.

$71 million dollars for a museum at the Arboretum ? Does an arboretum need a museum ?
I wonder what that kind of money would return if it were put into the molecular biology program ?

A new museum could encourage more students to pay high(er) tuition dollars to major in the arts and related programs. Remember, Penn State has all those artsy faculty members to pay and all of those artsy classrooms to fill. Load up the wagon. Penn State isn't streamlining under barren's watch.

At least no one is complaining about the football facilities spending. Can Renoir run the RPO? We don’t need no stinkin art on a college campus.

Renoir at Penn State? Maybe a print if they're lucky.

Maybe this will make you feel better and help you to relax.

From the end of this philly.com article:
https://www.philly.com/education/penn-state-eric-barron-art-museum-new-20190503.html

Barron said the university has more than 20 small museums throughout campus and the new project would allow many of their works to be housed at the new location.

Most of the project will be covered through the capital budget, but Barron has begun fundraising to increase the project budget to $85 million. An art fan who recently began oil painting again, Barron has with his wife donated $100,000 to the project.

“I paint bits and pieces at a time,” he said, showing a reporter an iPhone photo of his recent piece — a rock outcrop with trees in the fog. “I have done nine paintings. I enjoy it. It does help me relax.”

I hate relaxing.

However, I hope an $85 million museum will give barren ample opportunity to seek refuge from the stresses of spending other people's money and eating onion dip.
