UM always showed serious respect...some would say WORRY...about his games with us. Then comes the lament "Why do they always have to have a White Out game against US?"
Clearly he saw the power of the 107k fan/fanbase. The power of the JoePa era tradition..
Then came the almost "win" with Hack. Then the "upset" win last year.
And now in preseason 2017 ratings we are approaching parity of sorts, now that our roster nears parity of numbers - and talent - with theirs.
Seems to this Old School fan that Urban saw some things about CJF and staff that worried him, from the beginning of the CJF era. How they coached. How they focused on the long term. How they planned for the future. Maybe that we could lose LJSr to him and still do surprisingly well.
Then the coaching coup that brought Coaches Moorhead, Limegrover, and Banks. New blood, and serious experience that worried him even more. Now an upgrading of our DBs in size and quickness. Serious retooling of our OL into Roadgrader 101. Speed at nearly every position.
Heisman quality candidates at a couple of positions. A nationally ranked O to go with the tradition of a tough tough D. A much improved Special Teams performance. Depth.
I think UM saw qualities that many missed in CJF due to his early-on brashness. He saw the beginnings of a rebirth. And serious competition for him and his Buckeyes.
I respect UM's vision and his ability to spot talent, including coaching talent. Others came to see the same skills he did long ago following the 2016 season.
