Gosh darn it, logic - STOP IT RIGHT NOW!6th is reasonable until proven otherwise. Top 4 from 174 return and Lugo has failed to place in two NCAAs.
Thanks for the post! My 2 thoughts (that's about my limit) at this late hour.
1) Thorn @ 11 and Berge outside of the top 20 @149. FU CP. (Whatever, it's all good. I know you have a plan.)
2) Kem and Lugo @6th????? The pitchforks and torches will be streaming out of Iowa City.
Berge has very little resume in terms of NCAA. One tournament where he took 3rd, losing to Mike D'Angelo up a weight. He'll be ranked soon enough. I would not give him an initial rank either.
Kem could be a little low but remember he's going up 2 wt classes, not 1. I think he's top 3-5, but 6 is fair to start. Lugo being #6 would seem HIGH to me initially, given what he's accomplish, but look at the weight class - it seems fair.
Had a chance to talk briefly with Shak recently, and he's excited about going 184. The preseason Flo Rankings show 9 of the top-12 are Seniors (the other 3 are Soph's), so it's an experienced group. Good health is my wish, then let the chips fall where they may, though, like pish, I like him against most of the guys at 184, and on any given day, can beat anyone.Shak at 5. I like him against anyone at this weight. His length and cradle will have many 84s staring at the lights.
I'd be curious of the average height of the top 84 lbers vs the top 97 guys. Probably all the better to slap a cradle on. Not to mention strength.

Call me insane but I think Shak is a dark horse for a surprise NC. He basically gave away late points last year at the tourney in a weight class that was to big for him. He is going to be a terror and will give MyMar all he can handle, a very different challenge than Bo.
Then again I think Cassar is going to shock some folks as well.
Ok, I'll take off my blue and white glasses ... I can't wait to see Berge rocket up the rankngs.
The singlet looks even better with the robe!Dogwelder, how did you find that clip with David Lee Roth wearing an Ohio State singlet?

The one bit of intel from @YoungGunsWC’s spring post that didn’t shake out was Shak’s displeasure at cutting to 184. Oh, and I guess Mouse’s 6th year hopes didn’t materialize.Unless Zahid ends up moving up I gotta say it’s Martin’s weight to lose. Objectively speaking I’d be the least bit surprised to see Rasheed stick Martin and be in the hunt for a national title. This is probably the first time in a long time he’s at a weight that he’s completely comfortable at.
I believed the Bo and Cassar aspects. However a kid as talented as Rasheed finally getting to wrestle his weight and possibly transfering and Matt putting his adult life on hold two years in a row seemed much less likely. The one bit of intel from @YoungGunsWC’s spring post that didn’t shake out was Shak’s displeasure at cutting to 184. Seems like a ton of high end Illinois talent wrestling everywhere but Illinois.1 SR Bo Nickal Penn State
2 SR Kyle Conel Kent State
3 JR Kollin Moore Ohio State
4 JR Jacob Holschlag UNI
5 SR Willie Miklus Iowa State
6 SR Preston Weigel OK State
7 SO Pat Brucki Princeton
8 SO Nathan Traxler Stanford
9 SR Stephen Loiseau Drexel
10 SO Chris Weiler Lehigh
11 JR Christian Brunner Purdue
12 FR Jacob Warner Iowa
Lots of Illinois boys represented here! Some Past HS bracket fun, in 2016 - Traxler beat Brucki (who defeated Jessen in Semis) for the state title in 3A 182. Warner won 2A 182 & Brunner won 3A 195.
To my knowledge, I don't think Brucki or Traxler ever beat Warner in HS. Brunner always wrestled heavier. (Of course Brucki beat both Warner and Brunner in College last year).
It seemed like most thought that Valencia was going up to 184, the rankings suggest otherwise. Has any news come out on that one way or the other?
Thanks JP. It will be interesting to see if Hall can close the gap and best Valencia again.
