USA Olympic Wrestling Update

I just wanna brag about my buddy before Trials... Cool interview by Hands.

Just went into Peacock on Comcast and under sports they have all 4 mats set up for 11 am tomorrow. If someone can post mat assignments as the action unfolds it should be easy to navigate and watch specific matches.

NBCSN is showing Olympic wrestling trials on Saturday at 7:30 pm start, which I assume would be finals.
It appears mat assignments can be followed on the trackwrestling dashboard.

Peacock on 4/2: four mats coverage from 11am to 4:30pm; mats 3 and 4 from 7:30pm to 11pm
Peacock on 4/3: four mats coverage from 1pm to 5pm; nothing shown for evening on their schedule
Various NBC streams (e.g., NBCSN) on 4/2 and 4/3: 7:30pm to 11:45 (presumably mat 2 challenge finals on 4/2 and championship final on 4/3)

Trackwrestling should have their dashboard with all current and upcoming mats (up to five deep), and their Mat assignments page (typically up to three/four deep?).

Can someone explain the difference between the Challenge Tournament and the Championship Series? Which time slots are going to be the most important to watch to see our guys? Trying to plan my next two days around it!

The Championship Series is the best of 3 finals that determines which of the 2 finalists will be our team rep at the Olympics. The Challenge Tournament determines who is either both, or one, of the finalists (in the cases, such as 74Kg with Jordan Boroughs, and 97Kg with Kyle Snyder, that there is a returning world medalist at an Olympic weight class--those guys sit waiting in the Championship Series for a challenger to emerge).

With (a fair bit of) luck, we might have a guy in each of the Championship Series--or we could have only Snyder, but if you want to maximize watching PSU/NLWC guys, you'll want to watch the Challenge Tourney.

Ok that makes sense. And the challenge tourney is basically one and done right? If you lose you are done for the tournament? Or do they wrestle a consolation brackets for seeding of alternates in case of injury/COVID/etc.

Yes--there is a consolation bracket, and the top three at each weight "make the team." I don't think that necessarily means they will travel to the Olympics, but I believe Taylor did to train with Cox in Rio last time.

I should also say--if you like watching wrestling, you really do want to watch the finals regardless of PSU connection. Some of the highest level wrestling you can see anywhere in the world is likely to greet you. Those series' are often pretty legendary. Burroughs vs. Dake may be the gold standard, but we got some real contenders with Snyder vs. Cox, maybe DT and Zahid, Zain and Yianni.... You can't miss, really.

I agree with this^^, though the challenge tourney has a lot of compelling match-ups starting in round 1, and surely throughout. Just look at the possibilities at 86kg.

Martin vs Dean
Downey vs Nickal
Valencia vs Nickal
and others.

1. David Taylor (Nittany Lion WC/TMWC)
2. Zahid Valencia (Sunkist Kids)
3. Pat Downey (Unattached)
4. Myles Martin (Ohio RTC/TMWC)
5. Gabe Dean (Spartan Combat RTC/TMWC)
6. Bo Nickal (Nittany Lion WC/TMWC)
7. Nate Jackson (New Jersey RTC/NYAC)
8. Sam Brooks (Hawkeye WC/NYAC)
9. Brett Pfarr (Gopher WC RTC)
10. Aaron Brooks (Nittany Lion WC/TMWC)
11. Carter Starocci (Nittany Lion WC/TMWC)

Yeah, the OTTs is maybe the one US tournament where every match is legitimately interesting, even setting aside the high stakes. Just great wrestling, every match.

I hope Downey's warmup partner doesn't wear him out for his match against Nickal. No excuses!

Well, he already got past "bye" before the tourney has even begun ;).

I was thinking about signing up for the free 7-day trial, but I will be busy all day Friday and will not be able to watch the matches live. Does anyone who has Peacock know if they archive events? TIA

"On June 12, 2015 at or about 1:20 p.m., according to the hospital records, Marable
arrived at the Emergency Room of Meriter Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin.
Marable testified that he had been running on a treadmill in a gym in Madison, to
cut weight, and he tripped on his feet or on a drawstring around the bottoms of the
legs of his sweatpants, and fell from the treadmill. His coach, Sammie Hanson
(“Hanson”) testified that he did not see Marable fall but heard a thump and when
he got to Marable, he was unconscious. Marable was taken to the locker room, and
regained consciousness, then vomited and then was taken to the hospital by taxi.
Marable was escorted by Hanson and another coach throughout his visit to the
hospital."

I remember that wrestle-off at Fargo. We cheered against Marable because we were young jackasses.

I wonder if anyone has ever missed a match because some guy was actually named Bye.
True story (NOT April Fool's): we named our IM softball team Bye.

Got all the way to the finals without playing a game. Each opponent would check the brackets, see they had Bye, and just send 1 or 2 guys to claim the victory. Meanwhile our entire team showed up.

After the semis, PSU changed the brackets to read Team Bye. So we played one game -- and lost.

Not the way we did it. And we had the losses to show for it.

Now for track that was different. My points were enough for 2nd place as a dorm house. My buddy, and OG walk on’s points in the shot got us to first.

Just went into Peacock on Comcast and under sports they have all 4 mats set up for 11 am tomorrow. If someone can post mat assignments as the action unfolds it should be easy to navigate and watch specific matches.

On dish it shows 730 to 11 on Friday and also Saturday.

Basch's graphic tells you where to go when--I'm assuming Men's Freestyle will be Mat 2 tonight, but I could be wrong:

Question: For tonight and tomorrow night do you need to have both Peacock and NBCSN to see the specific match that you want? It looks like NBCSN is only showing 1 mat?

Yes. Both. Peacock Premium is included with Comcast Xfinity, but they are also offering a 7-day free trial.

Also there is an app that you can log into with your comcast login, working fine on my ipad.

Is it on yet? I’m on peacock and getting blue screen with US Olympic Team Trials
