Ut Oh….

Austin had well documented issues well before Tom and Terry got a chance to coach him. Yes they are doing the best they know how with the hand they were dealt. Coaching and mentoring Austin is a challenge they accepted, just like Cael tried to do.

So AGAIN it wasn't "the hand he was dealt", right? They knew about the autism and accepted the challenge. You act like DeSanto was on the team before Brands got there.

Figure of speech fellas. Tom agreed to play poker when he recruited DeSanto. Austin came to Iowa and became Tom's hand. He has been trying to win with that challenging grand since. So far so good.

You're a coward because, unlike you claim, you are afraid to call out Iowa fans like you do Penn State fans.
I'd ask you to show me where you call out Penn State fans, but frankly, I don't give a shit. Moving on..

Damn Turk, you're doing another fine job of slithering away from what you posted.

Never claimed I did. You however. . .

You seem to limit your criticism to Iowa fans.
I've called out Iowa fans many times on many subjects. Pay attention if you are so concerned about me

Smart move to move on, Turk.

I don't have a problem with Iowa doing nothing. But I'll write dozens of posts bitching about Iowa doing nothing. Irony=Priceless :)

No, what's irritating is their hypocritical need to make themselves look good (i.e., making a big deal of their "zero-tolerance policy" as a condition of accepting AD after Drexel kicked him off their team for his behavior at NCAAs.). They had no intention of enforcing this policy at the expense of losing team points, so it's rather obvious why they did it (again, to provide immediate cover for themselves).

And if we do want to ascribe motivations, then I’m working out how to cynically ascribe motivations to Brands and not to you highly persistent complainers.

Maybe the best question to ask in the mind-reading inquiry is whether, if a misbehaving DeSanto were the best Hawkeye available, and if DeSanto were a less-than-mediocre wrestler, would Tom Brands still put up with him and start him? I don’t know the answer. Tom Brands seems to be a loyal and caring guy. He might stand behind and help even a bad wrestler of his, in my estimation.

So why did they make a big deal of the "zero-tolerance policy" as a condition of acceptance when the took AD in, if they had zero intention of enforcing it?

I am sorry to be in the minority, but I am have yet to be triggered by any of ADs antics. The kid is wired a bit differently but aren't we all. If he were to pull another Tucker incident on the mat, then by all means a suspension in proportion to the offense would be in order.

I am not big on outrage or punishments tied to the spoken word, including whatever happened at nationals. When he runs into the stands and lays hands on someone, then....

Hey, did Brands really grab him around the neck? Brands should be given a time out. ;-)

You realize that running into the fans and confronting them is just 1 small step away from a riot. What happens when a fan decks Desanto, then the fans buddies jump in? Do Desanto’s teammates come to his aid? You ever hear about Malice at the Palace? Luckily this situation didn’t come to that, but you just can’t run into the fan section and confront people cheering against you.

What happened at the tourny i have no idea. But everyone knows unless he goes crazy during a televised event, Iowa will do nothing. Even then it will be up to their admin to do any punishment and we all know it will not happen.

Can you show us where DeSanto ran into the stands?

Why is twice okay, but a third such incident is too many?

If desanto goes off at nationals this year his points should go with him. i hate winning that way but I'll take it.

No, that’s why I rely on all the reported accounts of the events that I’ve seen, and the video commentary.
What about this reported account from a guy who sat next to Cullan's dad in the stands?

(Copied by @86PSUPaul from the wrestling room Facebook page)

"Jhe never went into the stands and he didn’t say that he was going to kill him. I was there and next to Ryan Shreiver when Desanto came off the mat and said hey man we’re on the same team and Coach Brands got a hold of him and pulled him away. I didn’t like what Desanto did but he didn’t do any of that. He did come up to the stands later and apologized to the dad and it was all squashed."

Seriously, whether he did something or not at Luther, it’s not our problem, or even HR’s problem. Let the Iowa coaches handle it (or not handle it) and they will then deal with the consequences. Complain about parking, or worry about 157… you know, PSU issues.

He recruited him from Pennsylvania yes. Didn't Cael try to recruit him aswell?
No Cael did not try to recruit him to PSU from Drexel. Cael had this wrestler coming in named Roman Bravo Young, possibly you have heard of him?

Cael did talk to the DeSanto's parents, but I bet Cael and Brands for that matter talk to a lot of parents of wrestlers they really have no interest in.

From what I could tell "the stands" were like 3 rows. Is this just nitpicking by saying he wasn't "in" the stands when he was likely saying something from right "in front" of the stands?

OK, you guys. You keep talking about this topic even though nobody knows the exact facts. So I had to go look for more video evidence of Brands choking DeSanto, for the third time. See GIF. If you keep on with the same fact-free discussions, I’ll have to find even more evidence and probably get banned.

This misuse of “hand he was dealt” to describe Desanto just somehow showing up at Iowa reminds me of the Big 10 commentators “hand he was dealt” comment about Bojo balancing being a young father as well as a student athlete - as if the baby was dropped off by the proverbial stork

I was of the understanding Cael did try to recruit DeSanto at the time. Even with Bravo Young coming in, it's good to keep a wrestler with Desanto’s ability away from Iowa and Ohio State. Plus he would have added depth in case of an injury. Not that PSU needed it, but Austin would have won that 141lb match last night imo.
Also why would a Head coach like Cael go out of his way to talk to Austin's parents if he had 0% interest? I don't believe that to be true

That's what you change the subject to? Here watch this. How many years has BWI been worried about Brands/Iowa/HR? Seems like atleast a decade. I mean half the threads here end up being about Iowa. Am I wrong? See how I did that Lion8286?

Many PSU fans and Iowa fans react and behave the same way. I see it everyday on the boards
Fire fighters going to fire fight.

Thank you for your service

When Drexel fired DeSanto, lots of coaches got in on the action. Offhand: Dresser, Manning, Zeke, Brands, Goodale. Certainly had to be more than that.

Cael met with them -- once. It's not that far (2.5 hrs) to kick the tires on someone that talented. And that's all it was. PSU quickly moved on.

So no, Cael did not recruit him. It didn't get that far.

Did they? I don't remember anything about a "zero-tolerance policy" and that frankly isn't something I would expect a coach to speak publicly about. This seems like something a psu fan made up in their head.

They had to come here to defend AD because the hard guys that can post/say/like anything they want about other teams, coaches, and wrestlers started asking where the mods were and crying for bans when this was brought up on their board.
I'm not defending AD at all. I came here to the PA board to find out what really happend in Iowa.
