Football VIDEO / NOTES: James Franklin talk Illinois game week

PSU 41 - Illinois 17. This will not be as close as some think. Illinois just doesn't have PSU-type talent

Franklin says that the Bowling Green gave people some concern but pointed to how Texas A&M also struggled with Bowling Green. Notes the defense improved this week and its impressive whenever you keep someone to 67 total yards.

"Took significant strides and it's something to build on," and notes that they have to take another step.

Franklin is pleased with the steps the wide erceivers have taken. Threw some small shade in saying there hasn't been many articles about those steps compared to last year when they struggled but oveall has vbeen very pleased. Will have to continue to build confidence and production. Thinks they'll be challenged this week by Illinois's secondary.

Tom Allen coached in the box last week first time in 15 years. Thought there were some advantages to it, could be something that changes week to week.

we won 30-13 last season. we were up 16-7 at the half. But Altmeyer, their QB, had FOUR interceptions. Plus they had a lost fumble leaving total turnovers at 5! we didn't have any. Allar had a difficult game with only 16 of 33 for 208 yards and a QB rating of 58.5. Beau had a productive day running with 47 yards on 9 carries.

I don't think we can count on five turnovers this year.

- Franklin was very complimentary of TaMere Robinson and likes how he's played early this season. Called DaKaari Nelson a pleasant surprise and also said that Anthony Speca and Tyler Elsdon did nice things this past weekend.

- Wants to continue to get Clifford and Fleming more invovlved. Liked how many guys were invovled in the passing attack this past week.

Sorry had to write up the decommitment piece... James basically finised off by saying that Elliot Washington has been playing really well and earend the opoprtunity to start and see the field more. Feels like they have a lot of depth at corner and could help the depth at the nickle/LION spot.

At that game. Drew’s first road game, if I recall.

Our offense has taken a step forward. The Defense a half a step back, imo.

I’m surprised by the spread, but still expect a win by 2 scores as long as we control the line of scrimmage.

Luke Reynolds is a beast!

No updates on Cam Wallace + Dominic DeLuca. "We need time to evaluate the injuries and have time to have convesations with these kids and their families."
And also said that the media is wasting a question asking about injuries on Mondays, and would be better served asking later in the week (Wed post practice scrum...) after injuries are evaluated and discussed with the players and their families..... which should be known after years of getting the same answer........

The compliment of Nelson seems to imply that he could fill in for DeLuka if DeLuka misses time with whatever injury he sustained vs Kent St.
