Welcome gilman

His occasional moments of jackassery aside (none of which were offensive but just not my cup of tea, and which he's mostly shed over his FS career, kind of like how Tony Ramos matured), I've always enjoyed watching him wrestle and make a point to do so in tournaments. He's really built well for FS. Not sure what he needs to take him to the next level but the Russians are too crafty to beat by pushing them out of bounds. So I could see the benefit of refocusing his game toward winning positions. Good for Zain to have a guy like Gilman around near his weight.

Dirty wrestler, loudmouth, whiner, camera lover....What part of that fits in at NLWC?

Zain will not benefit much if any at all from a 57 kegger. If I were Zain, I would be finding Nick Lee every time.

guess that means we know where he stands with our Pa native... regardless of wishing it was Spencer, give him a chance to learn... we know he can do that else he wouldn't be on the world stage

One of Cael's preconditions was that Gilman not only has to wear a face mask but also a muzzle.

Gilman certainly is a lighting rod. The last time I can remember rooting hard against him was the NCAAs semis against Cruz because the team title was still on the line, and he rubbed me the wrong way. However a short time later I found myself pulling for him to win last chance qualifier and run through the US Open. He is an entertaining wrestler on and off the mat and I hope we can all welcome him. He also has some of the best one liners in all of wrestling “see me at nationals, you don’t want to see me anywhere” “this is my mat, and how dare you” lolol

Many of you hate his antics from folk but i see this being a major benefit especially since penn state has a guy like Robbie Howard coming in who in fact loved freestyle and puts it ahead of folk. Robbie has yet another guy to train with and roll around with and get better.

i love this move and it definitely shows that NLWC is not only looking at dominating the US but the World.

Does anybody have any objections to Gilman from his post-college career?

Gilman's reputation is from his folk career, which ended 3 years ago. That stuff seems largely behind him, but not behind the fans.

Did you watch the one video of him at some banquet/fundraiser a couple years ago? Dont expect me to find it, but I watched it. I dont know who the bonehead was that asked him to speak, but I bet it was the last time.

First, will he beat Nico in the room and how come he left the best lightweight room in the country for NLWC . Welcome aboard leave your Hawkeye gear at the bus station.

Yeah, I think they called it Iowa Fight Night. Coaches from three different Iowa colleges, Iowa, UNI, and Iowa State, I think, would get together in a bar. Bizarre concept that I think they ended that night.

found a story about it

Looking backward: Snyder came to the NLWC . . . followed by Kerkvliet transferring to PSU (less than 2 months later). Looking forward: Gilman comes to the NLWC . . . followed by _________ transferring, or committing, to PSU. Sure would like to see a contender to 125! And, could be great for Howard & Bartlett.

I don't know how to say this in a nice way. I don't mean to get the blue/white glasses on, but I'm wondering if this potentially hurts recruiting. Everybody says Cael recruits over people or whatever, but this is the 2nd 57kg that has left HWC for other opportunities to train now, because the next shiny toy entered the senior level.

It could have absolutely nothing to do with that. It could be that both guys wanted to move on no matter what. I just see a pattern in the last five years that would make me weary.

But also, I highly doubt anyone is upset they spent time at Iowa nor are they weary of not being the #1 guy. I genuinely don't think people commit to Iowa to be "practice partner" types lol.

I was going to say according to HR which it seems like there are articles out there saying Gilman and Spencer havent practiced and rolled together in months.

Yes, and there is a very easy solution to that -- minimize his public appearances. He's very obviously awkward in front of a mic.

If the biggest objection to him is "the one video of him at some banquest/fundraiser a couple years ago," then by all means bring him.

This isn't about me. This is about Robbie Howard, RBY, and the next wave of lightweights behind them.

Only thing Gilman did that somewhat bothered me was the running into the Minn huddle incident.
I can see how some other incidents could rub some the wrong way too tho.
He's a human.

Most of me wants him to come here and lay low and work on achieving his goals.
Small part wants to hear his opinion on the Iowa/SL situation and how that unnatural worshipfest effected him.
Maybe he'll write a book some day. I can wait.

Welcome aboard.

Stupendous news!

I've always been a closet Gilman fan--so now I'm happy I can be out of the closet. If I was his coach, I would have diciplined him for the Minn Huddle incident, but as a fan, mostly jsut LOL.

The question is, will he accept our love, or will he want to meet us in the parking lot?
