Welcome gilman

Terry giving a great post-Flo film interview now, too.

As much as I wanna be "**** Iowa and anybody who love 'em", they're handling the situation very well.

For me it's kind of like when this happened

Didn't see this years ago, or know that Gillman and Zain are pals. That seems wild to me based on their college personas, but I'lll trust Zain, Cael & Co. Diversity of ideals and personality is good and needed.

The FRL emergency episode was a treat to listen to if you're a PSU fan. Basically drooling over the NLWC like we do and providing clear rationale as to why Penn St. is such a desired location and able to get the be$t wrestlers.
Zain is the type of person who finds something positive and/or common with others, and focuses on that. And doesn't have time for negativity.

He’s a guy we all love to hate when he is on the other side but love it that he’s on our team, now. Definitely Iowa is all in for Spencer after his senior season and probably DeSanto, too. Makes sense. It’s the next wave. Didn’t they chased Ramos off, to make room for several others including Gilman.

Jeez people, this was just four years ago. They brought Daniel Dennis in because it was obvious he was a shoo-in to take Tony's spot at 57KG for the Olympics after taking a few years off wandering the west coast. It didn't really go down like that but DD did end up beating Ramos which led to some hard feelings on Tony's part.

You never want to lose a guy of Gilman's talent, work ethic, and leadership. I hope (some of, not you NittanyChris) you guys can dust off your Gilman hate and give him a shot because he is a good dude to have around. He loves the sport of wrestling and will make the guys around his weight tougher...which sucks btw...plus I find he is hilarious when getting interviewed.

I thought the hard feelings was more about the Brands Bros and the HWC picking favorites over there after figuring out who's "their guy". :D

Probably why Gilman left. He saw he is no longer "their guy". Hell, Terry probably wouldnt even eat lunch with him anymore....

It's really not worth speculating precisely why a wrestler leaves one program for another because a year from now they'll tell Flo over five or so interviews.

Some good posts in this thread. Welcome Thomas Gilman ... here's hoping more of your dreams are realized.

This is all nice but Gilman specifically stated that "if you didn't root for me as a hawkeye I don't want your support now" I think it is pretty disrespectful to support him now. He would probably love being the heel even in his own club. I want to honor his request by supporting him by not supporting him.

I'll cheer for anyone who wrestles for NLWC period. However, not a fan of his antics previously but I've done far worse in my younger years. I think being around positive people will pay off. Can't wait to hear him say grateful and fun lol

I'm just glad the slush fund is big and getting bigger. It's all about the money.
Trying to lobby Congress to add in a few million for the slush fund in its next stimulus package. Most are on board but just need to figure out how to do it without any Hawk fans noticing. It could get real messy when we buy Spencer next year...

50 or so if they hop on a cruiseliner.

Just wait until HR discovers that we renamed NLWC as "The Kennedy Center" and snookered $25M out of Congress.

Zain finds positives and says “let me hug you!”

Especially to watermelons.

He "loves the sport of wrestling", yet time and time again he disrespected the sport and his opponents through his behavior. You all know where I stand. Enough said.

I like this part:

Question: “Can you talk a little bit about the Penn State room and the guys you’ll have as partners leading into ... 2021 ...?”

Answer: “... I think the biggest thing ..., along with partners, is just the mentality of the club. And ... that’s not a knock against the Hawkeye Wrestling Club, ‘cause we have good mentality here too. But the thing I was kind of missing was that little bit of camaraderie. Guys that are at that level and seeking to be world and Olympic champions. And just grinding with those guys every day and not grinding in a physical sense but a mental sense. And just sharpening that mental aspect of ... my game and ... just trying to learn from those guys ...”

Edit: Gilman specifically mentioned being on teams and camps with Retherford, Snyder, and David, in answering how he wound up at NLWC.

How old are some of you guys? Don't you remember what it is like to be young and think you can whip the world? Gilman is a fireball. I do not like some of his antics in Folkstyle, but he has matured. Also, he never did anything I would not have done or said, had I been able to back it up.

Jeez, the guy is chasing a dream and these dreams come with a great possibility of heartbreak. Try to put some things behind you and either support the guy or keep our negativity to ourself.

Why can't you respect his wishes? Would it really hurt you to show some respect and just take him at his word? I am more than willing to show him the lack of support her asks.

Is it me or have Iowa fans have, for the most part, stopped talking about how our team cheats this way and that, now that they are top dog. That is not directed to the more mature ones, who did not engage in such petty behavior.
Strange thing that.
Jealousy and envy= not good human traits.

You can be a fireball without arrogance.
You can know in your mind you are able to back it up, yet keep that info to yourself.
You can chase a dream without offending people.
That said, if Tom Gilman shows some humility and actually shows some appreciation for our support, then Im on board.

I really hate the provincial nature of the regional training centers. NLWC is not Penn State just the HWC is not Iowa. It is nice to such close ties to the college program but all of those guys are training to reach olympic/world championship dreams. Cheer for the guys you like regardless of singlet.
