What are you binge watching?

I struggled through 2 season of Money Heist. It started out strong, but it ended up being just a spanish telenovela with a heist as the back drop.

I have a question for any Curb Your Enthusiasm fans out there. Recently tried to get into it as we picked up HBO Max and I really want to like it but it seems very dated at this point since the first seasons are ~20 years old. Can I skip ahead to say season 7 which is only ~10 years old or should I grind through the older stuff to not miss continuing plot lines and running jokes?

You can skip ahead but watch a full season for continuity sake.

Most of the recurring plot lines (e.g. the Fatwa) are within a season or two. There are some intermittently recurring characters that might be introduced in one season and then brought back later. So you would probably be OK skipping ahead. 90% of the plot lines and jokes work within a given episode.

I think every season is tremendous and wouldn't advocate skipping anything, but I guess if you are turned off by the datedness of the early years, you could start with a later season and then if you like it re-start it at the beginning.

If you do skip ahead season 7 seems like a lot to skip. I mean even if you skip season one, you miss "The Pants Tent", "Porno Gil" and "Beloved Aunt" (the latter being probably my favorite joke on the entire show) which are all absolute classics.

Netflix has The Dig streaming now. It is excellent. Tells a story based upon real events in 1939 England. A 40ish widow has a self taught archaeologist explore mounds on her estate. Acting is incredible, writing is thoughtful, the direction and production design are excellent. If you want a good two hours of viewing, watch this.

If you like dialogue and more than violence and sex , you would like this film.
Those two things are all that Hollywood has to offer.

I liked it. Recommend watching with a Manhattan in hand.

If you don’t enjoy the first few seasons, any further time you spend watching this is wasted time. It’s not for everybody and can get very grating. After watching a while, I found myself rolling my eyes at Larry’s shenanigans a little too often. I’d look for something else to watch.

Couple of things:

1) Some of the things they've done away from the money pit (e.g. the coffer dams in Smiths Cove, draining the swamp, etc) have been very enlightening in terms of learning more about who was on the island and when. Most of these things are not that expensive compared to digging a massive hold (i.e. 100 feet across by 200 feet deep).

2) In that every other effort to dig a "big hole" has failed (usually due to flooding), I don't blame them for not embracing that option. Also, I imagine the permits involved for that are daunting as well.
To point #1, it does air on The History Channel. It makes sense that they'd build in the history timeline aspect of the search. My sense is that Canada and Newfoundland are incredibly strict on permits and searches. I think they've had to be methodical in acquiring proof to navigate all of the red tape.

And the cable network is no doubt bankrolling this. Those guys are wealthy and successful businessmen (Marty and Craig, anyway). They didn't get to that point by throwing money away chasing legends.

The first few seasons were consistently funny. The last three seasons have been very uneven. Some episodes have been absolutely hilarious and a few have been flat out awful.

I agree with the previous post. If you aren't enjoying the first few seasons, I would find something else to watch.

The episode from the last season where the guy commits commits suicide because of the Jets was hilarious.

While watching Servant it got me thinking about Six Feet Under which Lauren Ambrose was in. Really good show to binge and I really liked the way they wrapped the series up given it was about death/funeral home.

Also, another good HBO series for a quick binge would be Rome. Only 2 seasons due to production costs but really good.

+1 on Six Feet Under. Their Series Finale was probably one of the best I've seen.

This is a fun watch after the success of Ted Lasso; from seven years ago when Sudeikis created the Ted Lasso character for NBC Sports. A lot of this actually made it into the show. Definitely improved on the character for the show too.

Just finished up Wanda Vision. Took me a couple of episodes to get what was happening but the last half was very good and the final 2 episodes kicked ass. Didn't think I would end up liking it as much as I did. Agatha was excellent.

Just started "Boss Level" on Hulu with Mel Gibson and Frank Grillo, pretty good so far, a Groundhog day type with Action and drama.

Another Netflix series, four episodes, is Crime Scene: The Vanishing At the Hotel Cecil.

The first couple episodes are what you expect from this kind of show. Then things start to change in the third episode and the final episode becomes something entirely different. It ends up being a critique of our obsession with conspiracy theory, social media, our craze for personal destruction of others, and our mental health needs. It ends focusing on the true victims, and with some positives coming out of tragedy.

Don’t miss it.

why no "curb?" Just curious, people like and dislike all kinds of shows. I hate Marvell cartoony movies, zombies and game of thrones. I get others love it..no accounting for taste.

The last season of Curb was awful. It has run its course.

Strongly disagree. The whole spite store thing (including the rise of other spite stores putting mom and pop stores out of business) was fantastic. Plus the sex doll incident, the wedding in Mexico, Jon Hamm and Adolf the Nazi Dog are classics.

Finished up Schitt's Creek - well worth the investment. Would love to see another five seasons of that show (noting they stuck the very difficult 'satisfying' finale). Highly recommend.

Just finished up The Morning Show. Wasn’t sure I was going to like it but got sucked in pretty fast. I really like Billy Crudup’s character Cory Ellison. It’s like he watched the Joker in the newest Batman movies and thought “that would be fun to do in a regular TV show”.

yes but you'll miss a lot of good episodes. There are little snippets that are just precious. LIke he and a friend are walking on trash day and he throws his old coffee cup in somebody else's trash. The guy comes out and they have a big argument. That happened to me once...I threw trash in somebody else's trash can and a guy walking with me questioned the morality of it. I was like "hey, its trash!"

LOL. Yeah - not exactly Downton Abbey (which I really liked). Glad you like it - there are a bunch of PB fans here too (most recommended the show in this thread); they’re filming S6 now so get caught up so you can join in the recap discussion! Bonus that your wife likes it as well (fair amount of eye candy for everyone ;). Keep us posted on your progress/thoughts!

Beartown, HBOMAX. Interesting show about a sleepy Swedish town, the local hockey team and a horrible sexual assault. Sometimes hard to watch but a compelling story about power and control at a local level.

My wife and finished up the Soprano's last month on HBO go. Now staying in place, we just finished Ozarks on Netflix, which I highly recommend, and prior to that, Hunters on Amazon (another good one).

We tried one of those Game of Thrones / Vikings rip offs..... that didn't work, then there was this show set in England about some somewhat attractive gal and her misadventures. That didn't work either. So much so, I don't even know the name. It was on Amazon.

We have at least 8 more days..........

Bosch is horrible. Fifteen minutes of dialogue compressed into one hour. You get Bosch driving, Bosch walking and Bosch grunting and giving grown up looks. Just my opinion and I know others like it

Bosch is a man's show. So it's understandable why you're turned off. Not only have I -re-watched it but I anticipate the release of another season. I hope the show lives a long life.

I just finished Counterpart on Prime. It's in similar vein to The Man in the High Castle. I can recommend taking it for a spin.

You're full of shit on this one Cosmos, sorry. My point is that it's very poorly done. I have read everyone of the Bosch books by Connelly and was looking forward to the series. There are a few good moments but overall a lazy production. I'll have to check Counterpoint

Agreed on Bosch. Production and acting is like everyone is just going through the motions.

Counterpart was good. Really need to pay attention or its easy to get confused throughout. But we liked it a lot.

The entire series is just five one-hour episodes. Part 4 was on last night.

Yeah, Counterpart is always compelling. The actors were very enjoyable in unusually challenging roles. Too often nowadays shows throw plausibility out the window, so Counterpart is an enjoyable exception.
