What are you binge watching?

My wife and finished up the Soprano's last month on HBO go. Now staying in place, we just finished Ozarks on Netflix, which I highly recommend, and prior to that, Hunters on Amazon (another good one).

We tried one of those Game of Thrones / Vikings rip offs..... that didn't work, then there was this show set in England about some somewhat attractive gal and her misadventures. That didn't work either. So much so, I don't even know the name. It was on Amazon.

We have at least 8 more days..........
The Crown on Netflix.

Billions is amazing just finished. Wow really good…I pre-judged and thought I wouldn’t like it.

I love Narcos, Sopranos, Justified, SOA felt Billions is right there.

Might have to revisit. I bailed about 80% in the first season; I love Giamatti and Lewis but it just felt too contrived. I get some of the plotlines are based on 'real' events and people, but I don't want to see Giamatti in an S&M club asphyxiating himself while being spanked. On the other hand, a show I didn't think I would like - Succession - is tremendous.

Billions is good, but it doesn't come close to Succession.

I just watched a true movie with Daniel Radcliffe called "Jungle" I thought it was really good. If you watch it make sure you check the final notes before the credits. an amazing story. It is on Prime.

Speaking of Daniel Radcliffe, his Miracle Workers, Oregon Trail series on TBS is very funny.

Oh man - an all time Skinamax fave is being rebooted (with Emma Corrin to star - she played Diana in the most recent season of The Crown).

Watched The Sinner recently. Season 1 is really good, mostly carried by Biel's character. Also liked season 2. Season 3 is a total dumpster fire. Sounds like there is going to be a 4th season. overall it is a pretty good show, although there is some writing that just doesn't make sense, and some unnecessary scenes that are just weird.

The last time I binge watched there wasn't a term for it. We're talking 2000 - 2001 when Netflix was a company who mailed you a DVD. You watched it and returned in a postage paid envelope. Interestingly it was the first season or two of Sopranos that I got hooked on and as they say today Binge watched.

That's funny. How technology changes things is pretty amazing.

Started Vikings season one Friday night. Half way done with Season 2 already.

Had to laugh at my own post... "8 more days".....

Not binging per se, but The Ringer Network (Bill Simmons' new enterprise which is documentary/podcast/online entertainment focused and pretty good) has a new documentary series on HBO called Music Box. The first episode is a fascinating look at the absolute sh*t show that was Woodstock '99. You will likely be triggered if you aren't a big fan of people commenting on young, white male rage or of 'nu metal' music, but if you have the tolerance, just watching the events unfold (which starts with - 'It's f'ing hot here, but let's do this!' to 'Let's just destroy and burn down everything!') is weirdly captivating. It really wasn't *that* long ago but feels like a different world (watching non-politically minded Kid Rock say, 20 years ago, 'Kid Rock doesn't talk about politics but let me say Monica Lewinsky is a wh*re and Bill Clinton is a pimp!!' to a frenzied crowd of college-aged bros feels like bizarro world). It's not too long and I liked it.

This was so good, and a very good recap by you! How about all of those college kids shouting along to DMX…. also, I had forgotten how truly terrible nu metal was.

Also opened my eyes a bit to how good a guitar player Wes Borland is. I also loved when LB tells the crowd to calm down then launches into ‘Thieves’ by Ministry LOL.

Won't be a popular choice here I think but wife got me into watching Amazon Prime's 'Making the Cut' - which is an evolution of the Bravo show 'Project Runway'. It reunites the up for anything, ageless wonder Heidi Klum with stoic fashion authoritarian Tim Gunn. However, instead of giving up and coming designers sponsor-related or just plain crazy challenges, the gist here is to find 'established' fashion designers (have their own stores, have worked for prestigious fashion brands, etc.) who are looking to make a leap from regional/hometown wonder to global brand and give them reasonable, realistic fashion challenges. And the show focuses much more on design than Project Runway; contestants are largely not responsible for the actual construction of their garments - they pin them and have them sewn overnight. The budget for this show is incredible - the first few episodes take place in Paris and the top prize is $1mm dollars (I believe subsequent episodes will take place in Tokyo and other fashion Mecca's). Of course, the first season was filmed before COVID hit so there are tons of opulent shots of Paris, including Tim and Heidi going on a 'date' to the Moulin Rogue where Heidi gets into the spirit and dons a very revealing outfit and dances with the regular dancers. The contestants are from all over the world, though most from the US, and I like watching the very different points of view. Speaking of - the judges for this show include Nicole Ritchie and Naomi Campbell (as well as French fashion icon Carine Roitfield), and it's fun to watch a British woman, a French woman, a German woman, and an American woman all give their takes on the same fashion.

There are two seasons and we just started the first - really like it so far...and Heidi looks as good as ever.

this week I watched all four seasons of Halt and Catch Fire. that's the best series I've ever watched. I have no idea how this didn't get more attention when it aired. It will be regarded as one of the best shows ever made

One of my all time favorites; easily in my top five. Truly great show with an amazing cast. I constantly re-watch seasons and in another life want to marry Donna.

Billions is great, Succession was just too damn silly me to, maybe I'll give it another shot someday. Saw a trailer for "Dexter", getting excited for the return..

Interesting how over the four seasons, Joe changes from a ruthless and horrible person into a nice person that you like, and Donna changes from a nice person that you like into a ruthless and horrible person. They pulled it off pretty well

I love Lee Pace but Joe was the biggest issue with Season 1; once they figured him out - as well as hinging the show on the relationship/talent of Donna and Cameron, they really found their footing and how to move forward. I feel for Donna though - truly a victim of her own success. Gordon’s death episode was one of the best ever - the sequence where he kept hearing the lullaby Donna sang to their kids and not knowing where it came from was just gut wrenching - especially when you see him re-live the moment in the past. I’d kill for another season to see what Donna and Cameron get up to…

‘Computers aren’t the thing - they’re the thing that gets you to the *thing*…’

Great points. I think the episode where Gordon dies might be up there with the best episodes of any drama show ever. To me, it is the best I have ever seen. If you watch the whole series that part legit makes you sad to the point of crying

I don’t agree that Joe’s character was really a problem in S1. There are guys like that in that world. In fact I have worked with a guy who reminds me almost exactly of Joe in S1. I thought it worked

I thought all of the characters in the show were amazing with one exception. Tom was a lame character

I don’t disagree about Joe, but when the show started he was sort of a Don Draper mixed with Steve Jobs; and his ‘success at all costs’ didn’t mesh well with the others IMO. His character arc though was incredible and they really made you love him at the end. Tom was lame - how the hell does Cameron fall for that clown? Still - he had a purpose and this show did not waste anything or anyone - even Donna’s daughter was played by the wonderful Kathryn Newton and Toby Huss was a joy anytime he showed up.

I love a lot of episodes, but my favorite is probably when Cameron seduces Joe and gets him to install the virus on his computer ahead of his big corporate meeting. F’n awesome.

That episode was awesome too. That’s when you start to kind of like Joe. Until then, You aren’t sure if he’s marrying the billionaires daughter for money or because he actually likes her. Actually you never figure that out. It just falls apart like most other things he does.

I think the writers figured out that the actor playing Tom couldn’t pull it off. All of a sudden he is a promoted to a big shot at Sega in Japan (it was unclear to me when he even went to work for them) and you never see him much after that. They just wrote him out of the show

The actress who played Cameron was awesome. I was actually getting frustrated at her decisions. Lol

Tom was a necessary evil to get Joe back on track - Cameron is his *thing*. But, he was weak and I liked how Cameron ditched him. No other show fills me with nostalgia like HACF - even the small episodes, like where Gordon and Cameron spend a whole day playing Super Mario Bros., or when Gordon breaks into a store to get a Cabbage Patch Doll, are tremendous. Donna cosplaying as Princess Leia is an all timer…

It’s been ok. Liked Loki and Wandavision much more. It is cool that they have Chadwick Boseman in some of the episodes. The last episode (number 5) must have been closer to the end because he definitely sounded weaker.
100% agree. What If is entertaining but not engrossing. Loki series was awesome. Loved the finale with the introduction of Kang. He’s supposed to be in the next Ant-Man movie.

Yeah it was awesome. The only other minor complaint was their version of 1994 Joanie. I understand what they were going for, but I think they missed the mark

Also recently watched Clickbait. It’s ok. You will never guess the ending, but only because it has practically nothing to do with anything that came before it.

I'm not religiously against the boy watching ESP SEC playhouse but I didn't want him being ptsd from the part Lee Corso bites off the chicken head in front of Lou Dobbs
