What must HCJF do different/better this upcoming?

Curious which game he was shut down.

Michigan was probably his worst game if you put things into perspective.

Considering we couldn't run, at all, last year, it's quite the feat that Dotson had 1100+ yards.

But yes. Let's talk about how great Geno Lewis was. He's the #1 who got away...(and never became more than a #3).
Iowa last 3 quarters.....Rutgers.......duh

Every team we played shut him down to varying degrees in man to man coverage. Iowa completely took him out the game. Nova did as well with the exception of one play. The film is there. He has a knack for beating zone coverage but was proven to be very average against tight man coverage when facing very average corners. That is a fact. YOu can deny it all you want the film is there for everyone to see.

1100 yards is shut down?

Hope they shut Washington down this year.

Film that you won't produce and would argue with once I did. Not doing your homework for ya. You keep spouting. I'll keep spouting.

so why didn't they man him exclusively?

You don't need to look at film to see why he didn't get the ball at Iowa......geez
Nothing to do with coverage scheme.......LOL

Tell me you don't know anything about football and never played it, coached it at a competitive level without saying it. Oh, you just did.
Listen punk everyone on here except you apparently knows I coached for 15 years......and unlike you I played the game. But because I actually lived it, I don't need to come here and pretend I know more than D1 coaches, or in the case of Dotson, NFL front office personnel and coaches. Because I'm realistic enough to know I don't. You are a charlatan, a fraud and a phony who double talks in an effort to impress fellow fanboys. If you had ever done anything more than sniff jock straps, you would have an abiding respect for how difficult it is to advance to any level of college coaching. The only time you ever saw a locker room the girls field hockey team stuffed your ass in a garbage can.
How do you like those metrics?

More sycophantic nonsense. Why am I not surprised.

It's in the metrics dude, the metrics. If you don't know the "metrics", you're not worthy. Just ask "soylent Breen"

You apparently don't pay attention. Dotson beats zone coverage like there is no tomorrow. The problem is when he faces man coverage he gets eaten alive. This is why he isn't a #1 receiver. He does his best work in the slot where almost defenses use zone. When lined up at the X, he tends to struggle against mediocre corners. It was a major limiting factor last year. This should be an uncontroversial take because we have an entire season worth of film proving it is correct. Trolls will be trolls though.

Apparently even that activity is too cerebral and pushes his mental capacity to its limits. Wants to give people a piece of his mind but hasn't figured out how to split the atom.
Ouch....that really hurts!

Consult with all the experts on here. Reminds me of the former MLB general manager who said if you listen to fans you will soon be sitting next to them.
Coach Wally will separate the 5's from the 7's for his NNNNNCAC while in life he can't tell #1 from #2.

At least on holiday's I used to visit my inlaws.

Find your own picture, your own self in anything that goes bad. It's awfully easy to mouth off at your staff or chew out players, but if it's bad, and your the head coach, you're responsible. If we have an intercepted pass, I threw it. I'm the head coach. If we get a punt blocked, I caused it. A bad practice, a bad game, it's up to the head coach to assume his responsibility.

MY biggest beef with Franklin, beyond how he treated those that stayed after OB left, is his inability to learn from his mistakes. He continues to hire system coordinators and by doing so, continues to put his players in positions where no reasonable person would expect them to succeed. That is it. Beyond that, I think he is fine.

In order to learn from one's mistakes one must first accept responsibility for those mistakes. From what we have seen this first step has yet to happen.

Perhaps it will be "seen" during the next 10 seasons.

Pretty sure that guy knew a thing or two about coaching and was damn successful. He owned the legendary Paterno.

When Franklin exhibits these qualities he will have a successful season. Until then, not so much.

It's not that simple. You need to read the NNNNNCAC bible or you risk excommunication.
1. Franklin recruits the wrong kind of players for the schemes and system he wishes to run.
2. He then picks new coordinators that don't run systems that are compatible with the talent on the roster.
3. Finally, the staff is lousy at evaluating and preparing players. So they play the wrong guys and to make matters worse they aren't prepared. Should I mention they are probably playing out of position as well?
Summary;
Square peg.....round hole.....it's in the metrics.

How did he have a winning record at Vandy? How did we win the conference?

It would probably be reasonable to say that JF seems to get more out of lower rated kids and that he coaches better as an underdog than as the lead dog with a target.

It's just completely out of touch dislike for him to label everything a failure. One of the 5 best cfb coaches didn't win a national title between '87-'11. Yet JF is supposed to have us competing for one EVERY. SINGLE. YEAR! Or he's a bum?

Don’t forget clock management….one thing that Monday morning coaches never get wrong.

It's going to take me a long time to get over these two debacles from last season that are on the coaches and ultimately HCJF:

1) Ta'Quan Roberson's lack of preparedness going in at Iowa
2) Playing what was damn near a prevent defense while Illiinois ran a goal line offense for the entire game
