What unusual thing would you like to see in the Beav renovation?

The only two things that would make my experience better and neither has to do with stadium renovations (and yes I am getting old):
  1. At least one five minute break each quarter with ZERO talk/music/commercials over the PA/big screens. Who else remembers the day when you actually were able to talk to people around you without shouting?
  2. Widen the nine (?) mile stretch of 322 from the State College by-pass to Potter's Mills. Seriously, there is four lane access from I-80 and western PA via I99, but the highest traveled route (Harrisburg, Philly, DMV) is only two lanes for the rural stretch just outside of town?

This is hands down the best suggestion. We'd have to get buy in from the state, but they should continue limited access highway from the recent Lewistown construction to State College.

Special reserved seats for Barron and Old Guard members of the BOT.

I wish that the stands would be covered like in most European stadiums. Obviously the field would be open to the elements. State college isn't really the best environment in the winter for an open air stadium.

Penn State doesn't play many winter games anymore.
University of Kansas has em.'

Well, Kansas football WILL put you to sleep.

#2 is being worked on. Approximately 3 miles per year.

PROJECT OVERVIEW
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The purpose of the Potters Mills Gap (PMG) Transportation Project is to improve safety, reduce congestion, and alleviate access concerns along the section of Route 322 from the Centre County/Mifflin County line to west of the Route 322/Route 144 intersection at Potters Mills. Section B04 (the Bridge over SR 322), the first of three sections of the PMG project was completed on September 23, 2015, Section B05 (Sand Mountain Road Interchange at Seven Mountains) is under construction as of August 8, 2016. The last section, Section B06(4-Lane Extension and Western Interchange) is currently in Final Design and is scheduled for a Spring 2018 construction start.

We've discussed the new bathrooms, concessions, and chairbacks a lot. So, after seeing some other schools updates- what unusual ideas do you think PSU should do in the Beav renovation?

Blue/ white lighting like FSU's stadium end zone light show? Some sort of black lighting to make the white out glow more? Roof like at Husky stadium to trap sound?

A new PA announcer and less constantly piped-in music. I realize that isn't exactly what you were asking, but please get off my lawn.

Thanks for posting this. I have heard that there are plans on the books and initial designs done to make it 4 lanes all the way to SC. From traveling that way frequently, many of the homes in Potters Mills btwn the mountains are empty. I believe the bar that was there, Brownies, is no longer open either. It is only a matter of time.

Do away with the Mt. Nittany Club and seats. Extend the room behind the seats to the field with floor to ceiling glass walls and make a huge restaurant\bar\gentlemens club out of it. So we can sit in the warmth down beers watching football and getting lap dances. :D

My guess is this will be completed the day AFTER my daughter graduates from PSU. Oh well, I will hopefully be going to games long after construction is completed and it will be nice not sitting in nine miles of traffic after games. I've tried the 45/144 alternate approach and many times got burned by it waiting just as long if not longer.

Upgrade bathrooms and food.

Rip down north upper deck add chairs

New press box with more boxes

Done

I have to say that the Black lighting thing caught me by surprise and is a wild thought. Bravo as an unusual thought. I would like to see huge banners to enhance the steel structure look of the stadium- Team bannrrs of the best seasons, all the former coaches surrounding Joe and CJF enlarged in the middle. A best of the best banner of our all Americans by decade.

The white out under black light (maybe pregame as team leaves the tunnel?) would certainly get espn/ media talking about gameday at Penn St. Granted, it falls into an Oregon like thing to do for recruiting and many old school fans won't like it. ;)

maxresdefault.jpg.cf.jpg

There's a lot they could do outside around the Beav too. Before the deck construction there used to be more grass and trees. Lately they are starting to pave the entire area around it where it loses that college feel and start to remind me of the south Philly or Giant stadium sea of paved parking lots.

Maybe create a more park like setting outside the stadium? I know other schools have their famous places like the Grove at Ole Miss, the train cars for tailgating at South Carolina, etc. Create something much like that Spruce Street Harbor Park in Philly (?)- could be used by students and town year round and bring in $$ if done right (concessions, beer garden, etc). Plus a great place for pregame tailgating/ kids throwing around a football etc.

Or just have them at the concession stands.

At Indian Games, they took out seats and added in these meet & greet patios. On the patios, they have beer dispensers that fill a cup of beer for $5 via card or cash. You can also rent out a patio for a party or whatever. People I know feel it is pretty cool. When not rented out, they were kind of a meat market.

Imagine something like this (minus the river) for tailgating/ family fun around the Beav (especially at night games).

Great idea and I think there's a market for something like a biergarten outside the stadium. Those of us that fly in for games obviously aren't bringing fancy tailgating supplies. So I'm relegated to a basic cooler of beer or finding a tailgate to crash. Given that I don't know many season ticket holders, that's not always easy. The downtown bars are walkable, but a bit too far to really enjoy the tailgating experience. I think an outdoor space or even a full blown bar/restaurant in or very near the tailgating lots would be jam packed full of people on game days. The catch is what to do with such a space the other 358 days of the year.

It could work (and be located near the Beav/ BJC/ Pegula for year round use). IIRC that park in Philly is predominantly summer. I've seen other cities do similar things with temporary stands for food, merchandise, etc that are seasonal, predominantly summer. Then have other special events like Octoberfest in Fall, Christmas markets between Thanksgiving and New Years, etc. Maybe have an indoor/ outdoor restaurant/ beer garden there that can be open year round too? It could work but would require some effort to organize (that I don't see the university ever doing ).

The current concession area under the stands looks like a construction zone. This should be spruced up with reminders of great players and teams from the past. Posters, videos, etc. should be displayed all over the stadium to showcase Penn State's fantastic football past. These could be changed from game to game. Thus, say for the pitt game, there could be 48 -14 reminders everywhere. For Ohio State there could be reminders of last year's game all over the place.

It would be nice to be able to take a shower in the IM building, and not drain the RV - something that doesn't require a dime.

They need closed captioning or sign language people in each area for the deaf.

They should add a petting zoo. The mascot should be a real lion.

There needs to be additional bathrooms for people in all sorts of the LGBT spectrum.

Dancing fountains.

Sushi bars.

Fireworks after every score. And after every win.

The stands should rotate around the field on a giant lazy Susan so that every seat get a view from every angle.

Marshmallow throwing should be allowed and encouraged.

There should be an automated poll system that let's the fans decide on plays when there's a blowout.

The orange first down line should be visible on the field just like on TV. Powerful LEDs embedded in the turf.

A retractable roof that doesn't work very well and just happens to dump all the water on the visiting team'so bench.

Banners should be hung for championship teams. The 2012 team was important & all, but they don't deserve a banner.

This is perfect.

Except the marshmallow throwing. It should be required.

Add four Creamery locations under the four corners of the stands!

Eliminate any assigned seating, all seating is first-come, first-sit. Open the gates at 9:00AM.

Outlaw any other clothing color other than blue or white. This applies to the visiting team's fans too. You wear blue and/or white, you gain admission. Otherwise: "No game for you!"
