What unusual thing would you like to see in the Beav renovation?

-upgrade PSU locker room, whatever is needed- visitors can rough it
-repair any structural issues required for public safety

then stop spending money

-public bathrooms are terrible, so don't drink 14 beers before you go in and it won't matter, players don't use them anyway
-fancy seats? the players don't sit there, who needs them?

The drift of your post is that it's all about the players... The players don't sit in fancy seats ... so who needs them .... The players don't use the public restrooms ... so don't upgrade them .....

OK, so using that same logic ... The players do NOT buy tickets ... so the people should not buy tickets.

Yes. It is the players who put on the show, but it's the people buying the tickets who pay for the show to go on. Without PSU selling 90,000-107,000 tickets each game, those same players would not have the revenue to be wearing uniforms, practicing on manicured fields, training at a facility like Lasch.....

I believe that winning sells tickets- the rest is just window dressing, imo

I just think it's idiotic to spend a huge amount of money on a structure that's used fewer than ten times a year and that does nothing to further the core mission- which is supposed to be education.

I sort of agree. But you have to remember that sports is competing with ENTERTAINMENT expenses for most families. When a typical family sits down at beginning of year they have a budget on what they will pay for entertainment... which includes sports:
$ xx.xx on vacation
$ xx.xx on going out to diner
$ xx.xx on cable TV, movies ....
and....
$ xx.xx on attending sporting events

If Penn State (or ANY venue) makes the experience too uncomfortable -- such as standing in long rest room lines, no hot water, cramped seats... -- guess where people will decide to spend their entertainment budget

I like that. You could easily set up a buffet line and get $30/head for a little additional revenue.
This was during installation. In the second picture, you see all the hand rails leaning against the verticals. The idea is that no one ever steps foot on that turf - which for the most part works. We had to cut around all the collars for those rails all the way around the stadium. Cool project though. Also, this is pre in-fill - where there was no sand worked into the turf. It actually looks good still today.

I've sat in the upper and lower seats and didn't like either. Rebuild it somewhat like the south end zone with some food courts and stuff like that. Also the trailer restrooms for the upper deck with the troughs to urinate in are simply the worst.

The North Deck has the most convenient - by far - access to concessions/restrooms of any seats in the stadium (excluding suites)

They have the easiest egress after a game as anywhere in the stadium

They probably have the best "view of the game" ....... for folks who aren't overly concerned with being "close to the action".......certainly 100% better than what you have in the South Deck (or any end zone seating I've ever been in in any large stadium)

If you don't like troughs:
1 - Restroom troughs are SOP throughout most of the stadium
2 - if the issue is "restroom troughs".....you don't spend $20,000,000 tearing down and replacing seating - - - you just redo the restrooms

Unless, of course, you work in PSU ICA or Administration- - - in which case your "culture" says "He'll yeah - what's another $20,000,000!......... Ain't my money!!!"

Well then, I guess the issue isn't just restroom troughs.

The stadium is going to be used more than just for 7 home football games when this is complete. That is one of the primary goals of the renovation plan.

I guess it is all how you look at it. Some would say door-to-door service, how can anyone complain?

Which gate isn't crowded, and would not be a hassle, for someone in a wheelchair or a walker? This has nothing to do with the parking location btw, but feedback to PSU would be a good idea - maybe a separate HC entrance should be considered.

To answer your question, I am not currently handicapped, but did attend games at Beaver Stadium when I was handicapped * in the 80's, and I agree the stadium experience isn't the greatest when you are HC.

* I broke my neck when I was 17, and was partially paralyzed, but I eventually recovered (slight to a little more than slight limp depending on the day). I attended games when I was just learning to walk, with various means of assistance - walker, crutches, cane
And this also goes to the wider question of stadium access general. Any plan not addressing that is a fake plan.

they gonna have enough going on to pay for the ridiculous costs they are talking about?

I find that very unlikely

Any idea how long that list is.......

Any ideas what it would be used for?
What "activities" are in search of a 100,000 seat stadium in Central PA?
What events would be held in Beaver Stadium (between December and July) that would have some significant financial impact?

Yeah.......me neither. :)

Are you hypothesizing that STATE COLLEGE PENNSYLVANIA would get an MLS team?
That would share Beaver Stadium? (Doesn't their season run in the fall?)

Um....... maybe I don't follow Pro Soccer closely enough - - but I am having a REALLY hard time thinking that would have a One in a BILLION chance of fruition.

Or, is there some other activity looking to spend buukuu dollars for a 100,000 seat home in Centre County PA?

Or, somethIng else?
Something else. Just thinking with the close proximity to NYC and Philly, they could probably sell out every year if they hosted a European "freindly" game. I realize it's only once a year, but just a thought. Soccer is really on the rise right now and The Beav is this biggest stadium in the Northeast. People pay HUGE $$$ for tickets, and add it alcohol sales, hotels, etc. and it starts to make sense. Just a thought.

Even if ...... it takes two to tango

Why in the world would some organization say - "Forget about Philly - or New York - or Pittsburgh - or D.C. - or wherever ....... let's go to State College (which has a population of about 40,000 in the summertime - and is otherwise located in the middle of Appalachia ....... which is inconvenient, doesn't have the amenities we'd like, has no history with such events, etc etc etc - and write THEM a big check - - - "

Anyway - I doubt it matters - and I'd be shocked to ever see any significant revenue regularly generated out of Beaver Stadium with anything other than PSU Football (in fact, is bet my life on it)

But it doesn't matter - they are gonna do what they want to do (for whatever reasons they want to do it) ...... and (just about) everyone will chug a Natty Lite and chant "409"

But it would get more people in the bathrooms to urinate.
Mug shots of Emmert, Freeh, and a-hole BOT members painted in all urinals throughout the stadium is a must.
