I would think end of season meetings with players will occur this coming week and PSU will only be able to have 105 players on the roster for 2025.

Roster management now even more of a critical skill for the staff.

Too bad the "run on" program is probably going to be extremely space. Do you think the staff will hold a few (1 or 2) scholarships open for "run ons"?

The unofficial "eligibility" roster has 139. Richie updated it 12/24/24, so it's pretty recent. Going to be interesting. Hope we don't lose and potential starters.

Does CJF hold individual after the season meetings with all of his players who have remaining eligibility?

This is the way that we did it in basketball - both when I was a player and later as a coach.

Of course, a basketball team does have a lot less players. And this was a long time ago when no one had to deal with transfer portals or NIL etc.

Back then, the invitation for the player to pursue other opportunities was a one way street at the discretion of the coach.

I don't know the actual process but I recall CJF previously speaking about end of season mtngs with the players. It could be the position group coaches conduct them along with CJF.

I would doubt that there’s a division one team in any sport that does not do exit interviews after the season. It’s pretty standard practice for a multitude of reasons. Generally you give the guys a day or two after the last game to sort through their stuff turn in gear For any fixing and that kind of stuff and then post the schedule of meeting times so that the players can make sure it fits in their schedule.
When I was assisting with basketball at a division three school, we had about 18 kids in the program so it only took one day, when I played baseball in college we had about 35 or so kids and it took three days so I would imagine football takes more than a week.

We have 19 wide receivers on next season's roster. We need about 15 of them to enter the portal.

The 4 true freshmen aren't likely going anywhere (Exinor, Outten, Howard and Samuel). Out of the 3 redshirt freshmen the staff seems high on Denmark and Gonzalez, as well as the speedy Brown who reportedly is almost recovered from a serious injury. It would seem that Wallace, Evans and the two incoming transfers (Hudson and Ross) will be here, so that makes 11. I only count 5 additional WR's on scholarship, Clifford, Flowers, Ivey, Johnson and Saunders, as I believe Nastasi, Black, Cunningham and Estrella are walkons. It would seem that those last 5 on scholarship have a lot to prove in the Spring if they haven't seen the writing on the wall by then. Clifford seems to have lost his spot in the slot by the staff may want him to return as a safety net with the 105 roster limit. And Saunders has shown more than the others but will be coming back from an injury and would be competing for a backup spot in the slot at best.

And it seems that the staff will take another incoming WR transfer if a good one wants to come to PSU.

Lots of changes to be expected between now and the end of Spring practices, but with the expanded roster it's reasonable to expect at least 13-15 WR's on the roster going into next season.

Good analysis, Greg. All you say doesn't give me much hope that we will significantly improve our pathetic wide receiver performance next season. I sure don't see a Dotson, Godwin, etc. in this list.

If we don't have an uptick in wide receiver performance, then I think we are at risk for Allar to portal before spring practice. He is not going to have Warren to be his receiving partner next year. Without better wide receivers he will have nobody to throw to and will not be able to showcase his NFL potential. I wouldn't blame him if he transferred to a program with decent receivers.

However, he has an elite running game and oline at PSU, with a roster that is playoffs or bust again next year.

I would think what our OL looks like next year will be more important to Allar , yes?

19 WRs and not one that can play?! Amazing! Time to hit reset button.

I believe you meant Warren at TE, but the TE's will be very good next season as well with Dinkins (if he returns), Reynolds and hopefully a recovered from injury Rappleyea.

I'm looking for an improved WR group next season. Especially if Franklin and Hagans (if he hasn't been replaced) start from scratch and really assemble the depth chart without regard to class standing. Sure Clifford can catch a football, but he can't get open. Wallace and Evans can catch the ball when they can get open, but don't get open vs good secondaries.

I could envision a depth chart for 2025 like:

Slot: Ross, Denmark
Outside: Hudson, Gonzalez, Outten
Outside: Another transfer/Wallace/Evans,

Yep, I meant Warren.

I think your depth chart is accurate. It sure doesn't inspire much confidence. Koby Howard is a 4-star from Hollywood, Florida. He will be a freshman next fall. I wonder if he could help. Clifford is a total stiff. For the team's sake and his sake, he needs to portal to somewhere like Slippery Rock.
