I could see that. But at my age I actually remember two steeler titles so a lot more non titles.“True fan”? You look to be nothing but a bandwagon fan, surprised your are not a big Celtics and Canadiens fan as well…
I thought you were born before the invention of the forward pass!!!!!! 🤣😉I liked those Tom Osborne led Husker teams in particular the Tommy Frazier led teams. That option running game was just punishing and fun to watch.
I don't know why, but I enjoy watching the old school option teams much more than today's offenses. I should have been born before the invention of the forward pass.
Before our entrance into the B10, I liked Ohio State, but we've had so many horrible calls go against us, and the way their fans have treated me and my family at the Shoe, I can no longer pull for them in anything. For what ever reason. Do you have other college teams you root for, or at least not against? Your kids go there. You get pissed at Franklin. You like the coach. etc.
1. The Service Academies
2. Colorado Buffaloes - I lived there for a few years as a kid at the height of the Bill McCartney era.
3. Florida/South Carolina. - loved Spurrier as a coach. It just stuck.
4. West Virginia - Spent a lot of time in Morgantown growing up. Penn State light during Don Nehlan’s days.
1 - Air Force, from my PSU ROTC and active duty years. The campus cathedral (under renovation) is amazing. For what ever reason. Do you have other college teams you root for, or at least not against? Your kids go there. You get pissed at Franklin. You like the coach. etc.

Who do you root for other than Penn State?

This is a head scratcher to me. Great recruiter, but poor football coach. Offense consisted of average QBs chucking deep balls to WRs who overmatched the DB. Of course, Spurrier lost most games against teams of similar talent - every year but one that is. His performance with the Redskins and uSC were pedestrian at best, and exposed his poor actual football coaching. For what ever reason. LOL. Well, I identify as a 30 year old, so I guess I missed the invention of the forward psd too!!!!Not quite that old. I'm only 45.
This isn't the knock on anyone in the thread but when you mentioned true fan it reminded me of a guy who coached youth basketball team that fed into my school in Anne Arundel county md. We're both roughly the same age (late 40s) and his favorite sports teams are the steelers, yankees, spurs, Alabama in cfb, duke in cbb. Hes jumped on more bandwagons than anyone....“True fan”? You look to be nothing but a bandwagon fan, surprised your are not a big Celtics and Canadiens fan as well…
Nope all Philly teams which have brought far more pain and anguish than joy.I could see that. But at my age I actually remember two steeler titles so a lot more non titles.
and people that say the Yankees are bandwagon are out to lunch. They haven’t won a title since what? 09. Yeah that’s bandwagon.
penn state everything so you try being a college basketball fan and cheering for penn state. Same with football, it isn’t easy.
And tiger? Ok call me bandwagon with tiger if you want. But if you started following g golf around when I did, who didn’t cheer for them.
let me guess your teams are :
Jets
Padres
Hornets
Nashville hockey
Kevin kisner
St bonaventure basketball
Eastern Illinois football
Especially this year. May they have more of the "success" they enjoyed this year.Stanford. Years ago my cousin's son played football there so I root for them but since he graduated I do it in a minor sort of a way. I also like the way they run their program.
I grew up in Fayetteville, NY - a suburb of Syracuse. Moved in in '66. The Defensive Coordinator of SU football, Ted Daly, lived on the other side of our next door neighbor. He was incredibly nice to my crap talking dad, PSU class of 1955. Ted would take me and my 3 brothers to Manley and the practice fields for an entire day, then have the SU players sign a poster for each of us. I've also talked to Jim Boeheim several times - also hit into his 4some twice during the same round. I love PSU football. I like SU. It's my hometown. For what ever reason. Do you have other college teams you root for, or at least not against? Your kids go there. You get pissed at Franklin. You like the coach. etc.

Shouldn’t be a head scratcher. There were probably people who liked Rich Kotite. I have had a unique opportunity over the years of having worked/coached at a place that regularly produces some very good high school football players. Coach Spurrier was probably the most personable and down to earth of all the coaches that came through the building (a completely other topic) so of course I am biased. I would argue/correct your USCe observation. Prior to Spurrier(2005) South Carolina had exactly one -10 win season (1984) in its entire football history and was a perennially mediocre program. Spurrier had 3 consecutive 11 win season at a place that had never know success. It even gets better at Florida. Prior to Spurrier(1990), there was never a 10 win season. Spurrier has 9 or the 16 in Florida Gator football history. They don’t put your name on 2 different stadiums for mediocrity. I do get that Coach Spurrier had the tendency to rub some folks the wrong way (especially those in Tennessee). This is a head scratcher to me. Great recruiter, but poor football coach. penn state for colleges
My favorite golfer used to be Raymond Floyd, probably is Rory now…

Holy shiat were the '83 Sixers good. They beat the CRAP our of the Lakers in the Finals. Swept 'em.I don't think I did too bad. In my lifetime the Phillies won two World Series. The Birds won a Super Bowl. That was actually the longest shot of any. I know the Flyers won when I was 8 or 9 years old but I really don't care about hockey.
Penn State won two Natties. There have been a lot of terrible years sprinkled in. I saw Doc play, Sixers in 83. I count that. I cared about it then. I really don't root for any of them now other than the Phillies. I don't root for Penn State to lose but I really don't give a flip one way or the other. I used to.
Nobody at PSU cares if you follow the teams or not, just show up and pay. The more $ they charge the better the experience.
I always liked Spurrier. His success at Duke, Florida, and South Carolina was pretty damn impressive. All three of the schools would kill to have "the ole ball coach" back in his prime.Shouldn’t be a head scratcher. There were probably people who liked Rich Kotite. No disrespect taken, Again not that I think Spurrier is the greatest coach in history, a guy who turns around 3 mediocre programs in major college football, that is pretty impressive in the coaching world. Who cares about the NFL? Many college guys are horrible NFL guys, Saban included. I am curious: Who do you like “as a coach”?To each there own and I mean no disrespect. Your point said loved him "as a coach."
There is no doubt that he was a great recruiter and he recruited better talent to uSC than they had previously had in general. But "as a coach" Spurrier got outcoached at FL whenever he faced similar talent and frankly, during his tenure at uSC, no one really feared them or thought they were contending for much. I lived in DC for the entirely of Dan Snyder's tenure until earlier this year. Spurrier was a train wreck "as a coach" and he was not very likeable whenver he was on camera...and I say that as an Eagles fan who got to watch a division rival disintegrate and then wallow in mediocrity for decades. Again, to each there own, but "as a coach," liking Spurrier is a head scratcher to me. Take Care.

Ha! This is so typical of a Cal Bear fan. Give them a four win season and a victory over Stanford and they find reason to talk crap. Shows you the low expectations of the program. In the dreams of Cal fans they would be Michigan, overrated but still arrogant and annoying. Instead they are stuck being more like Rutgers, usually bad but occasionally they get seven or eight wins. Then the Bear fans start getting excited and making some noise but the rest of the world can't figure out why.Especially this year. May they have more of the "success" they enjoyed this year.
It was a great era to be a sports fan, and a high school kid in the early 80's. All we did as kids was talk about, watch, and try to emulate these great players, across several sports. Tyson was huge too. ESPN was kinda new and we had all these great games and discussion on tv all the time. It was the dawn of a whole new industry and we had a front row seat.Holy shiat were the '83 Sixers good. They beat the CRAP our of the Lakers in the Finals. Swept 'em.
Unless they were Alabama. I really don't consider going 4 - 10 a very good track record.I think it's clear that Paterno, while conservative and sometimes it felt like he under utilized his talent, had a very good track record against good teams.
With all due respect, pulling 14 games over 45 years against one team doesn't suggest much. For that matter, maybe Bama was generally better and maybe Bear was equal to a slightly better coach than Joe. That doesn't make Joe any less of an in-game coach.Unless they were Alabama. I really don't consider going 4 - 10 a very good track record.
I think more and more are headed this way. The woke sh*t is turning many way. Sports was always an escape from the more serious aspects of life. When tuning into a sporting event is like watching CNN, it loses a lot of appeal. In college, the more the amateurs start acting like pros, the less interest there will be. No one cares about the minor leagues. I care less about the outcomes than I ever did.I don't think I did too bad. In my lifetime the Phillies won two World Series. The Birds won a Super Bowl. That was actually the longest shot of any. I know the Flyers won when I was 8 or 9 years old but I really don't care about hockey.

Joe only lost four major bowls...impressive. Looking at the list half of those were to Oklahoma. With all due respect, pulling 14 games over 45 years against one team doesn't suggest much. For that matter, maybe Bama was generally better and maybe Bear was equal to a slightly better coach than Joe. That doesn't make Joe any less of an in-game coach.
However, I'm sure you could find a lot more of the reverse where Joe won more than his fair share head-to-head. Further, while not perfect, bowl games generally pit teams though to be relatively equal.
In all bowls, Joe was 24-12-1(.662). In "major" bowls, he was 13-4 (.765). It's tough to argue with these win percentages that occurred over 45 years. Players change, Assistants change...The only consistent piece was Joe. Would be tough to make the case that he didn't move the needs during the 60minutes of game time. It pains me to say that I don't have that same feeling for Franklin. His in-game WAR is probably not very good.
