Willie's Crystal Ball, NCAAs Edition

Officially released, here's his projections
Drew - R12 (fair after last weekend)
RBY - 2nd (he's been adamant Fix will win all year so he's sticking with it)
Lee - 1st (no shocker)
Beau - R16 (fair after what we've seen)
Berge - R12 (this one is a bit shocking but I guess he thought others looked better in conference weekend)
Nothing for 165
Carter - 1st (makes sense)
Aaron - 1st (guessing he senses a Penn State avenged loss special coming up!)
Max - 2nd (behind Buchanan, fair enough, he hasn't wrestled him)
Kerk - 4th (losing to Schultz in the 3rd place match)

I think Berge will be an AA. And I think a few of our guys showed signs of training hard thru Big Tens; meaning I expect them to look fresher and better able to pull out the late match and SV heroics next week/weekend.

fwiw, the only guy i didn't agree with at 157 was robb, but willie is a bit of a nebraska homer. also robb is pretty good too, but i would have probably have quincy monday, berge, young, and lewan on the stand before him. and berge did look solid, but he also lost to lewan who isn't exactly a total world beater himself.

3-12 at this weight are all close to interchangeable imo. probably comes down to how the bracket falls and individual style match ups.

How accurate has his "crystal ball" been in past years?
i think last year was the first year. i wouldn't put much stock into it until brackets come out. so much depends on path. he's said as much.

Lol at the continued mark out for Fix. Maybe this year he will improve on his career 0 offensive points in finals, or at least score a point rather than having the ref hand him a couple like last year. IN RBY WE TRUST. STFU and GTFO with that milkshake fix nonsense.

Was there an actual show? I don’t see it on his Rokfin page.

I don't see Fix ever getting a TD on RBY. He has only 2 paths to victory IMO. The Marinelli pushout for stall warnings or the VanBrill 30-second stall ride then run in OT.

RBY vs Fix:

Neither like to shoot vs elite opponents.
Both want to counter.

It may come down to riding time again (before those ridiculous stalling calls forced SV last year).

That said, do not underestimate Fix - he was on a holy tear in freestyle this year. I know free isn't folk, but it would be foolish to sleep on Fix.

Very slight edge to RBY.

I think Cael strategized beating Fix by RT last year and it would have worked if not for Angel Rivera. If you told me after the 2020 Big Ten finals that RBY would be able to beat Daton Fix for the Natty in 2021 by a rideout contest, I would have said you're insane.

I'm guessing they will change things up a bit this year. It's going to be a nerve wracking match bottom line. I do like RBY's ability to get the TD better than Fix but Fix has shown he will get calls against RBY.

i think the biggest change this year for fix is that he isn't holding his weight down to make 125 2 weeks later. he looked night and day at 61 kg vs. 57. i thought he looked flat at ncaa's. he looked much better against desanto this year than in the semis last year. i think it's a much tougher match for rby this year. even though it went to ot last year, he was in total control.

Maybe he'll be more offensive this year?

I'm fine with Daton Fix taking shots against the best counter wrestler I've ever seen.

That definitely is a factor and potentially the reason Willie has been on the Fix > RBY train all year. Fix was pinning last year though.

very possible. just don't think we see him get ridden like last year. he had nothing for roman last year.

i just hope the team title is sewn up (hopefully for the hawks) so i can root for rby. fix is one of the few, if not only, wrestlers i dislike.

Candidly, I hope ADS is the 3 seed (Nomad seems to think McGee could be ahead of him, which is insanely stupid) and he finds a way to take out Fix haha.

no chance. he can't finish on either of them. only chance would be off stall calls.

There is definitely unconscious biases to reffing. Maybe because ADS isn't as a big of a superstar as RBY or Fix. Unfortunately it's just how it goes. If anything, ADS has warranted the stall calls against RBY that Fix generously got against RBY at NCAAs last year.

that is true. At the ACCs this weekend, small venue, with fan bases sitting together and basically right on or near the floor it seemed they were influenced. During the semi's and finals you could easily make a loud comment and be heard. There were stalling suggestions made and coincidentally a call was made shortly thereafter. On the other hand, ref's need thick skin as they certainly heard a lot of comments - some funny, some angry....

I don’t know where to post this, but since folks are taking RBY and ADS… anyone else notice that RBY wasn’t keeping his arm behind him on Sunday in their match? Or at least not a lot of the match.

Re. RBY and Fix ... almost anything can happen when it's one bout. Just prepare, wrestle YOUR match, and have fun. Almost always, good things happen.

P.S. Yes, our group at B1G's noticed RBY wasn't keeping his arm behind him against DeSanto as much as he has in the past.

disagree if rby wrestling like he can he would take people down anytime he wants just cant figure why he doesnt!better to win with 5 td than leading by 1 in the 3rd!

I noticed that too… but when he didn’t, it seemed he made sure to tie that wrist up.

No you're not.
Lol. I kinda am. I’m wondering if there’s a chance Desanto gets the 4 seed. If he does I’m gonna take Fix I think. No. I don’t think Desanto beats RBY but I do think Fix’s chances of winning it all increases a bit with Desanto on the top side.

I also wonder if RBY, Nolf and Bo brainstormed a new counter for ADS go to takedown and RBY was baiting him to hit it.
