Wisconsin - NW game thread

NW’s Offense is rather bad and that may be an understatement. Their defense is playing well.

I’m trying to figure out if this game says more about Wisconsin or Michigan.

Maybe this is just a let down game for Wisconsin. Their QB looks much more average than he has earlier this year.

NW would be winning this game if their QB was competent, he’s below Average. Their whole offense is very uninspiring. And as I write this they just fumble for a Wisconsin defensive score.

Ha, I just said the same thing (basically) in the thread titled “Wisconsin”.

I don’t know if this game says more about Wisconsin or Michigan.

It’s hard to believe there is a single scholarship-worthy player on the NW offense.

I can imagine some Junior Colleges might have better offenses.
Seriously.

Their QB Hunter Johnson was a one-time 5-star recruit and played extensively as a freshman at Clemson. Then Trevor Lawrence came along and took over as the starter, and Johnson transferred to NW. He has not looked anywhere near a 5-star this season. Not sure if it's him or the system or the OL or what. But their offense is certainly struggling this season.

Good point.
Wisconsin has 2 offensive TDs in the last 5 quarters.

Didn’t Trevor split time will The QB at Missouri, Bryant I think his name his. So I don’t know when if or ever or how much Hunter ever played at Clemson.

Kelly Bryant.

From Wikipedia

Johnson was an early enrollee at Clemson.

Johnson did not redshirt his freshman year at Clemson. He began the season as 3rd string quarterback, but earned the backup position by mid season. Johnson saw limited action against Kent State, Louisville, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, The Citadel, Miami, and South Carolina. He threw his first collegiate touchdown to tight end Cannon Smith during Clemson’s game against Wake Forest. Johnson completed 77.8 percent of his passes, throwing for 234 yards and 2 touchdowns during the 2017 season.

On June 11, 2018, Johnson announced that he would transfer to Northwestern University.[8]

I think you're right. I am pretty sure he started the 2018 season as their starter, though, as a sophomore. But, I could be wrong.

EDIT: Never mind! Someone posted the Hunter Johnson story above. I'm depending on memory, which can be a crap shoot!

I love Pat Fitzerald but his offenses are awful vitrually every year. He really needs to hire a great OC and stay out of that side of the ball.

Pat F is a really good defensive mind. He usually finds a way to frustrate 2 or 3 if the better teams on his schedule yearly. On the same token, his teams lose some head scratchers as well.

Probably a lifer at NW, but if they ever can him, I'd love for him to join our defensive staff.

Wisconsin defense is stout. Second defensive TD?

I think those are both because NW left tackle is bad. Or at least their QBs and offense are bad.

I just returned home and started watching the 4th quarter, I like NW but turned it off after 5 minutes, the play is disturbing.

NW just took advantage of a muffed punt return and scored a TD. Tried a shovel pass on the 2pt attempt, Wisky stuffed it.

Fitzgerald would get another HC job in about an hour if he was ever to be fired. What he's done at Northwestern has been impressive but they are going to have some years like this.

He’s not even looked like a 1-star QB at any time this year. Has no pocket awareness and has not learned even the basic of throwing the ball away to avoid a sack.

Not that he’s much better but NW’s starting QB is injured and out for the year.

Anyone else watching this game and thinking....REALIGNMENT NOW!

Wiscy is a good but not great program that gets a pass to Indy each year due to the current B1G division assignments.

I'm going to watch a little of the Nuter Dame game, if Virgina starts going south, Netflix is next on my agenda.

I could see ND blowing them out. I can see UVA losing a heartbreaker; it's what they have long done save for one Thursday night vs Florida State.

Bronco has em on the right track, but outside of a let down, ND should be too much.

WTF was that. The NW receiver took three steps in bounds after he caught the ball and they ruled him out of bounds

And you’d have to convert a two pointer on the second one.

Math

Unless there is some “magic” that says you are more likely to be successful on the two pointer after the second TD, than you would be after the first  there is ABSOLUTELY ZERO reason to not go for the two pointer after the first one.

Coaches often save the 2 pointer for the next RD at that point, rationale is to keep it a one-score game. Figure they may not get down there more than one more time.
The odds are what they are for 2-pointers anyway, so it's not a horrible decision, just maybe not the 'safest'.
