Who's #1 just announced it's 3rd matchup - Hayden Hidlay vs. Mason Manville. Hidlay bested Manville twice over the summer - once in Free, once in Greco - and it will be interesting to see what happens in Folk.

More interesting to me is the weight it will be contested at - 152. Willie is on the record as stating WNO contests are not all-star meets. He's not putting guys that are going to compete at different weights together. So this tells me MM is going at 152 this year. This actually makes sense given he has competed at 66kg in Greco (145.5). Maybe MM is not a 157/165 after all - he certainly isn't getting much bigger in terms of competition weight.

Could it be that Manville is a 149/157 guy - this certainly makes a lot more sense given the PSU lineup will probably see Nolf move to 165 in the near future. Could we even see Manville at 49 and Joseph at 57 in a couple of years?

Zane's succesor?

If he is more of a 149 type of guy that makes a lot of sense. I'm starting to think our coaches may have a pretty good idea of what they're doing.

Manville @149 three years from now.
It's the most attractive of the long-term future line-up scenarios I've seen for him.
But would take a lot of patience & zero growth (physically) on his part.

Appears they just announced another match, at 126, between Daton Fix and Rudy Yates.

I believe these are the matches Flo has announced so far:

113: Gavin Teasdale vs. Roman Bravo-Young
120: there will be not matchup at this weight.
126: Daton Fix vs. Rudy Yates
132: Chad Red vs Tyler Lamont and Yianni Diakomihalis vs Luke Pletcher. The winnes of these matches will then meet.
145: Jarod Verkleeren vs. Kyle Bierdumpfel
152: Hayden Hidlay vs. Mason Manville

Mason is a 149/157lber in college. His father is about 5-9ft, so I think Mason is pretty close to finish growing. I expect Mason, Cenzo, and Jason to be back-to-back-to-back. PSU will wait to see where Cenzo and Mason are in two years from now before deciding. I expect Mason to redshirt. If I had to guess in two years after Nolf moves up to 165lbs, I would put Cenzo at 149lbs and Mason at 157lbs.

tjb, hi! Your comment intrigued & perplexed me, so I mapped it out:

2016
149 Zain RSSO
157 Nolf RSFR
165 Hammond/Rasheed/Beitz
Cenzo RS
Manville HSSR

2017
149 Zain RSJR
157 Cenzo RSFR
165 Nolf RSSO
Manville RS

2018
149 Zain RSSR
157 Cenzo RSSO
165 Nolf RSJR
Manville ???

2019
149 Cenzo RSJR
157 Manville RSSO
165 Nolf RSSR

Notes:
- If Cenzo waits out Zain for 149, he'll burn two seasons of eligibility on the bench
- If Nolf goes 157 for two years, Cenzo will burn one season of eligibility on the bench. This also presumes that whoever's at 165 is good enough that a 157 Nolf + 165 scores more than a Cenzo/Nolf 157/165 combo.
- If Cenzo & Nolf go 157/165 while Zain's still here, Manville loses one season of eligibility on the bench
- Looks to me like Nolf's size/growth + developments at 165 are the biggest determinant as to whether Cenzo loses a year or not.

Then in 2019 (4 tourneys from now), they'll see whether Cenzo or Manville are more suited to drop to 149?

What are your thoughts?

Cenzo has already stated he will be wrestling 157 next year as of right now.......149 this year and 157 next year. Pretty exciting if it all works out what a line up this could be with Mark hall also at 174......even without him it's a very exciting line-up

IMO it's definitely "when," not "if" Nolf moves up to 165.

I saw him up close on campus last week. I trust the coaches when they say he's going 157 this year. But he's quite obviously bigger than the average bear at that weight, and I don't see him holding it for 4 more years.

I believe Manville is wrestling 152 this year. Going 149 doesn't seem outlandish. The next question is: does he arrive next year or grayshirt?

I believe these are the matches Flo has announced so far:

113: Gavin Teasdale vs. Roman Bravo-Young
120: Spencer Lee vs. Justin Mejia (due to the shoulder surgery, I presume Spencer is going to have to back out of this match)
126: Daton Fix vs. Rudy Yates
132: not certain if they're having a round robin or what, but they had something about Chad Red, Yianni Diakomihalis, Luke Pletcher, and Taylor LaMont wrestling
152: Hayden Hidlay vs. Mason Manville

Mejia told me he is also out now, he's going to Freakshow in Las Vegas the next weekend.

Any chance Manville goes to the OTC next year for his grayshirt?

Today Flo announced their 145 match-up for WNO. It will pit Jarod Verkleeren (PA) vs. Kyle Bierdumpfel (NJ) I'll add it to my list of matchups earlier in the thread.

When I hear a name like Bierdumpfel I envision a roly poly guy with Lederhosen and a felt hat sliding down a ramp into a huge pitcher of beer.

Buerdimpfel and Verkleeren will most likely meet a 2nd time this year in January at Escape the Rock.

Willie mentioned in Tuesday's Flo Radio podcast that at every weight but 1, WNO will feature a matchup of #1 vs. #2. I wasn't quite sure what to make of that, as he hadn't updated his HS rankings since before he began his crazy trek to World Juniors, World Cadets, and World Seniors.

Updated HS rankings are posted on Flo at THIS LINK. They show:

113: #1 Teasdale, #2 Roman Bravo-Young (already announced for WNO)
120: #1 Spencer Lee, #2 Jack Mueller (Willie posted that there will not be a WNO match at 120)
126: #1 #1 Daton Fix, #2 Nick Suriano (announced match is Fix vs. #3 Rudy Yates)
132: we have a bonus as #1 Chad Red faces #4 Taylor Lamont, then #2 Luke Pletcher faces #3 Yianni, and the winner of the 2 matches will then face off
138: #1 Cameron Coy, #2 Mickey Phillippi (WNO matchup not yet announced)
145: #1 Jarod Verkleeren, #2 Kyle Bierdumpfel (already announced for WNO)
152: #1 Mayden Hidlay, #2 Mason Manville (already announced for WNO)
160: #1 Alex Marinelli, #2 Isaiah White (WNO matchup not yet announced)
170: #1 Mark Hall, #2 Kamal Bey (WNO matchup not yet announced; isn't Hall scheduled to be on an official the weekend of WNO?)
182: #1 Dakota Geer, #2 Beua Breske (WNO matchup not yet announced)
195: #1 Nick Reenan, #2 Sammy Colbray (WNO matchup not yet announced)
220: #1 Gable Steveson, #2 Jordan Wood (WNO matchup not yet announced)
HWT: #1 Osawaru Odighizuwa, #2 Kevin Vough (WNO matchup not yet announced)

Somewhat unfortunate for PSU fans that the only announced matchup that does not feature #1 vs a #2 is 126, where #2 Nick Suriano is not scheduled to participate in WNO. (With the caveat that 132 will only feature #1 vs. #2 if they win their respective initial matches.)

It appears according to Flo's site that 120, 138, 160, 170 or HWT won't be contested weights so going with your listing, it looks like the remaining match ups will be Greer and Breske, Reenan and Colbray, and Steveson and Wood. We will see how good we are over the next few days

From what I've heard, Geer will be wrestling Breske. Originally he was slated to wrestle Reenan but something changed.

Steveson and Wood both got their invites to WNO at Fargo didn't they? That is probably the 220 match would be my guess.

Also, it won't be 160 - Marinelli will wrestle Drew Hughes the night before WNO in Iowa.

Looks like I was right on the remaining match-up's announced today. Geer and Breske, Reenan and Colbray, and Steveson and Wood. Should be a great event

Full Lineup:
113: Teasdale vs. Bravo-Young
126: Fix vs. Yates
132: Red vs. Lamont
132: Pletcher vs. Yianni
132: Winner vs. Winner
145: Verkleeren vs. Bierdumpfel
152: Hidlay vs. Manville
182: Geer vs: Breske
195: Reenan vs. Colbray
220: Steveson vs. Wood

Like I said, who would think Flo would do whatever is possible to get he number ONE kid in the country there!

What am I missing here? Hall couldn't take officials until September. He's taking all 5, and he scheduled in the summer a college announcement for Oct 22.

In Hall's life, picking the right college for him would, I believe, be far more important than any wrestling match. And while I think very highly of WNO, and may attend this year, it's not a State Championship, it's not a Junior Worlds, etc.

Yes, Tom, i misspoke on FRL. Every match up at WNO is #1 vs #2 with the exception of 126 where it's #1 vs #3.

as far as Hall goes - of course i want the top guys, but the kids have lives too. I didn't push him on the subject, and i don't blame him.

Spencer went to homecoming last year...stuff like that happens. kids should live their lives too, imo.

Mark Hall has done his fair share to satisfy the requests of events and their promoters over the years. he's a great kid and if he wants to take a breather and enjoy his trips...good for him.

agreed. you only get whined and dined so much in your life, why not take full advantage of it.

I see Nolf going to 165lbs after this season, so you're guesses seems spot on to me. It makes sense for Mason to greyshirt a year and train at the Olympic Training Center. I don't think he'd be opposed to it either, as he enjoys his time out there learning from the best. However, Mason is a heck of a competitor and will not shy away from competition. If he wants to wrestle 157lbs his RSFR season, then he'll challenge Cenzo for the spot. Regardless, PSU is going to have a plethora of riches across the middle weights.

With Suriano's loss at this past weekend's Journeymen, he dropped from #2 to #4 at 126 in Willie's rankings on Flo. (1. Daton Fix, 2. Rudy Yates, 3. Vitali Arajau, 4. Nick Suriano) The end result is that now all WNO bouts are #1 vs. #4 (again with the caveat that at 132 you have the top 4 wrestling, and the winner of the 2 initial bouts meeting to resolve WNO).

Suriano also dropped from #5 to #10 in Willie's P4P rankings. So Nick loses in the last 10 seconds against Arajau, and for the 1st time in over a year, and he drops. Makes you realize how tough it is to stay in the top.
