A good group of US women are competing in Egypt at a ranking series event right now. It’s great seeing Kennedy Blades back in competition and winning after her scary injury. She looks rusty and out of shape but still has made the finals and beat some good competition doing it. The US has quite a few really good young women that are going to break through on the world stage sooner than later. What sucks is that the very best of the group all seem to be right around the same weight. We all know how great Amit Elor is but Blades was on her level as a prospect before her injury. Hopefully she can get back to that level. She is an absolutely incredible athlete and has the size, strength, and length to be an absolute hammer. Kylie Welker also deserves to be in this group. In 2021 she won junior worlds, was bronze at U23’s, and made the senior world team all while being in high school. She holds wins over Blades as well. The last women I’ll mention is Yelena Makoyed who is a tiny bit older than the other 3 and doesn’t have the same credentials but has come on lately to show she belongs. She is considered the number 1 p4p wrestler in college this year and won the Zagreb earlier this year. In that event she teched the 76kg 2022 world teamer Dymond Guilford. All 4 of these young women can win gold on the world stage with most of them already doing so. The problem is that they all compete at 72 or 76 kgs and for the Olympics there is no 72kg weight. Elor had her historic year winning juniors, U23’s, and seniors at 72kgs but for the Olympics she is going to have to cut a significant amount of weight to make 68kg or go up to 76. The US is going to have gold medal winning talent 3 deep sitting in the stands watching. It really sucks but the good thing is that these girls should push each other and the level of wrestling will only increase. One last thing…for any of these girls to even get the chance to compete at the Olympics they have to get by the most accomplished US women’s wrestler of all time in Adeline Gray. Whoever makes it out should definitely be ready to win gold on the biggest stage of them all

Good stuff ZZ

I think everyone will be chasing Elor for a few years, she is just WRECKING all competition. She won 3 World Golds and never broke a sweat.

As far as Gray goes, give me the field.

I think I agree but before her injury I thought Blades had the most potential. Not sure if she will ever reach it though while Elor has proven she can. Going up to 76kg might be an issue as well but she is just so much better than most I’m sure she will do great up a weight as well. I’m also with you about Gray. I think these youngsters pass her by this cycle

I used to compete in mma and my last fight was overseas in Jordan under the Cage Warriors banner. I was so excited to go to Jordan because I had been fairly obsessed with Petra since I was young and was hoping I’d get the chance to go see it. The day after the fights a group of about 10 of us took a trip and spent a full day at Petra. It was absolutely the most incredible place I’ve ever seen. Truly magical. These pictures just reminded me so much of my experience.

Bunch of US MFS competing in Egypt today. Most doing very well. Cenzo with 2 techs and a come from behind win over Anthony Valencia wrestling for Mexico to make the semis. His qtr was vs 2016 euro bronze Ukrainian, Semen Radulov. Has hometown Egyptian Hussen Finesilver in the semifinals.

Desanto remains must watch in freestyle, becomes the 6th or 7th US semi finalist with a 19-6 first period tech. I enjoy being able to root for him now. Hope he can keep a cool (enough) head.

Seems like whatever injury VJ had in that match woke him up. His first move after was a feet to back for 4. Some fun wrestling in that bout.

Chittum, down 4-0 early, hits a slick duck under, then exposes twice for 4 to go up 6-4, then gives up the reversal, so it's 6-5 at the break.

UKR is low on gas with 1:45 to go, and Chittum wins 14-9.

Mckenna and Zahid fairly easily take out two Americans competing for Puerto Rico in Rivera and Ramos.

This was a really fun bout to watch, very back and forth. I think Chittum could AA today if gut wrenches were a thing in folk.

Suriano loses a real snooze-fest vs. the Kazak, Kalzhan. 2-1. Nick scored a step out, and gave up 2 well-earned passivity points. Finishes 5th.

Desanto pins his Georgian opponent in the 2nd, wins Bronze The guy was really appealing to the officals over Austin's grip on his arm--he did not like it at all.

I couldn't figure out what the guy was whining about. I thought maybe Desanto's fingernails were long and he scratched him.

Chittum gets tech'd 10-0 by Akmataliev, ends w/ Silver, which is pretty good for his age for sure.

Did I miss something? Names at the bottom for both mat's say 79kg (including Bekzod in one, and Chance in the other) . . .

Vincenzo Joseph vs Shikhdzhamalov of Romania - I'll probably just say "Romania" in PBP below, lol.

Agreed, Iowa got a good one. He is stocky so I can see him going 149 or 157 next year.
If he’s weighing in at 158.7lbs for a single day tournament and can’t make 147.7lbs, he ain’t going 149 next year.
