World Cup

So as not to start another thread on the World Cup action, my posting of any comments will be here. I have fond memories of this competition from the mid-1980's when it was held most years at Centennial Hall on the campus of the University of Toledo. At the time, we lived in Maumee, OH and a couple years in Monroe, MI. It was NOT very well attended at that time.

Action starts in 20 minutes. Go Jason, Go Kyle, Go USA!

EDIT: Action starts at 11:00am EST.

I think action starts at 11:30 EST (Flo has the annoying habit of listing all their times CST).

Thanks nerf, just looked at the schedule again. Probably won't see much of today's second match (vs China). It's starting at 11:00am EST.

Why is Zane Richards going against Zandanbud instead of Suriano? Zandanbud is one of Mongolias best guys and I would think Suriano matches up better.

Edit. Good thing I’m not the coach!! Richard’s with the 10-0 tech. He looked incredible. Zandanbud was world bronze this year so that’s a great result for Richards

57kg (USA vs Mongolia)
Richards (USA) with an early takedown, up 2-0 after 1 minute.
Richards with a 2+2 goes up 6-0, period ends.

Another Richards takedown in the first minute of period 2.
And one more ends it, 10-0 early in the period.

Sucks that Mongolia had some visa issues. They have to forfeit at 61kg and 92kg. Gross just got the first forfeit

Anyone else having problems with the flo feed? Stopping and constantlly buffering. Any advice? (Other than not giving these pricks at flo another cent of my money>)

Love that team USA has a bench matside. Great idea. Mongolia not on script though.

Me feed on my laptop has been great.

65kg
Diakomihalis down 4-0, 30 seconds into the bout.
Diakomihalis gets a takedown, cuts into lead after 1-1/2 minutes..
OOB call gets white-paddled, no score.
End of 1.
Diakomihalis with a push-out, now down 4-3.
Mongolian gets the exposure, Yianni down 6-3. Half a period to go.
4 for the Mongolian, Diakomihalis loses 10-3.

Boy, was that exposure? Was lightening quick if it broke 90. Yianni down 6-3 with a minute left.

Yianni goes down 10-3. Not close at all. Yianni spent about half the match caught underneath in a front head. Also gave up a 4 point arm throw

Might've been a 'correct throw' call. Yianni was kind of horsed around anyway, not much to complain about there. That Mongolian was good.

Berger up.
Quick takedown by Berger, plus exposure. Up 4-0.
And another takedown by the American, up 6-0, one minute into the first.
Berger takedown and a leglace turn, he wins 10-0 for the USA.

Berger gets the nod over Pantaleo and wins 10-0 in the first. 3 tds, a gut, and a lace. Berger and Pantaleo is a nice 1-2 combo at 70kg since Zain isn’t wrestling

VINCENZO gets the call at 74kg!
Joseph tries an inside trip, gets taken down. He's down 2-0 after first minute of action.
Period ends. Joseph tried some upper body action near the end of teh period, double-overhooks, nothing resulted.
No scoring in the first minute of the second.
Joseph on the clock.
Mongolian up 3-0. And gets a push-out. Joseph down 4-0.
Two late Mongolian takedown finishes the scoring, Mongolian wins 8-0.

Vincenzo is wrestling! Guess I should pay attention more.

Cenzo just couldn't get anything going--did not have the horsepower advantage he usually enjoys, and the Mongolian held great position.

Cenzo gets the first match instead of Nolf and he goes down 8-0. Kept getting to double overs but never really came close to scoring and instead gave up 3 tds, a step out, and a shot clock point. Cenzo looked flat. He also was the leanest I think I’ve ever seen him. Seems to be in great shape

JB with a tech in just about a min. What an absolute pleasure it has been to watch JB’s career. Such a talent and seems to be just as good of a person as he is a wrestler
He looked a bit "NLWC" there w/ the ankle pick and the bow & arrow.

Missed the Valencia bout real-time...took time for lunch. Replay showed a takedown and gutwrench thirty seconds in for the 10-0 win.

Nate Jackson follows with a win by forfeit.

Also missed the Burrough's bout. Another technical fall.

Zillmer up.
No score, first minute.
Zillmer gets put on the clock, gives up the point. He's down 1-0.
End of 1, not a single shot by either wrestler in the period.
Zillmer again on the clock, but Zillmer gets a leg and the step-out. Bout tied 1-1, Zillmer with criteria against the World Silver Medalist.
Mongolia gets two consecutive push-outs, Zillmer now down 3-1 to the larger opponent.
Zillmer shooting, gets the get, but can't get the Mongolian down.
Zillmer loses 3-1 but gave a really nice effort.

Nate Jackson gets the forfeit at 92kg and then Kyle Snyder gets a forfeit at 97kg. Weird situation though because at 97kg the Mongolian took the mat but then didn’t wrestle at gave Snyder the forfeit win. Not sure why he didn’t wrestle especially since he came out to the center

I guess Mongolia had visa issues at 61 and 92--but the 97 forfeit was a surprise to the announcer, and seemingly, Snyder as well.

Munkhtur beats Zilmer 3-1. Zilmer was in on a shot at the buzzer but couldn’t finish. Munkhtur beat Geno at worlds and was world silver this year
