Would you add Tennessee to the non-con schedule?

Let's say Bob Shoop loses his lawsuit and owes PSU $1,000,000. Maybe James and Sandy bail him out and say they'll waive the fee if Tennessee agrees to a home and home. Would you want to play and beat the ever-living snot out of those hillbillies?

Doesn't need to be under conditions having to do with Shoop....I think it would be a good non-conference matchup.

If I recall correctly, the Vols actually owe us a home game going back to the early 1970's meetings. Neyland Stadium and Knoxville are good places to visit, too.

Um, no?

Personally I would like to see any college P5 team on our OCC. And preferably 2 each season unless the one is a perennial top powerhouse like Okla, Oregon, Bama, Clemson, etc. They would still have 2 cupcake warm-ups. All they really need. But we won't see it so to answer, sure, bring rocky top in!

the whole things seems odd to me. Doesn't Shoop have a contract law attorney/agent to protect him from these sort of things?

No way PSU schedules two Power 5 schools in a year (unless one is a bottom-feeder that doesn't require a return game). Barbour has too many AADs to pay.

Having just been in Knoxville earlier this season for a game, I think UT would be an awesome addition to our schedule. Gameday experience there was incredible and Knoxville is a cool place to spend a weekend. Stadium is impressive, fans were great. Fun tailgating scene. Really has everything you want in a college football weekend. As a bonus, there are direct flights out of Philly into Knoxville.

Would be just like beating Akron. And Pitt of course. :)

Actually Tennessee owes us TWO home games as we played down there in 1971 AND 1972.

nahhh. People already said that the Georgia St. game brought down the strength of schedule, imagine what adding Tenn. would do. :D

right you are, Illy

PSU lost them both, and I went to the 1972 game, a night game which TN won 28-21

PSU lost the last regular season game to them in 1971, then lost the opening regular season game to them in 1972. Those were the only regular season losses those two years.

Fortunately we’ve gotten revenge vs the Vols in subsequent bowl games!

They did us a “favor”and played our home game on “neutral” field in Memphis. The original return game date was supposed to be at PSU, but it fell in the middle of finals week. When we asked for another date earlier in September, they agreed to accommodate the request, but in exchange they wanted the game moved to neutral field at night. That is how we played the at the end of 71 and beginning of 72. Unfortunately, two losses.

Didn't Franklin bring Shoop with him?

Home and home, my ass. Tennessee owes Penn State two games at Beaver Stadium.

I'd love to see a game in Knoxville.
At the '92 Fiesta Bowl we somehow got hotel reservations at the Scottsdale Princess-the TN headquarters. Rabid fans and really nice people.
Only downside is they play "Rocky Top" every play.
They are worse than USC & Fight On.

We can do better.

How does forgiving $1M for breach of contract benefit PSU IF Tenn agrees to a home and home? That insinuates they are doing PSU a favor, as if UT would be coming down off the mountain to play lowly PSU.

Pretty good road trip for students/fans and a good way to showcase the Penn State brand in a recruiting hot bed. I'd take that deal.
