(plus channing fry) to Lakers for Larry Nance Jr and Jordan Clarkson. Lakers also get Cavs #1 pick in the draft.

Well, that trade to Boston really did not work well for them, did it?
No...Thomas has been horrible. He can't play defense and his shooting/ball handling has been awful. Could be rust, but Cavs aren't going to make it to the Eastern Conf final with a 5-9 guard who shoots more than James.

Cavs are imploding. Larry Nance, Jr. and Jordan Clarkson?! And the Cavs had to add their No. 1 draft pick?! That amounts to a salary dump, IMO. They are gonna have to start over, but without their top draft pick..

But the Cavs have the Nets pick via Celtics.

It's Cleveland. "Imploding" is normal.
The only thing surprising about this trade is that the Lakers are dumping salary to the Cavs so they can make a move for Lebron (who is on the Cavs) next year.

So they are funding their competition.

I guess that's not surprising... Lebron is gone.

Also traded Crowder and Rose to Utah for George Hill and Rodney Hood.

just sent dwayne wade to Miami....looks like they wanted to get younger and D-Wade wanted to finish his career in Miami...so they basically gave him away.

This is flat out nuts. The Cavs totally remake their roster in the span of a few hours. Departures: Isaiah Thomas, Channing Frye, Jae Crowder, Derek Rose, Iman Shumpert, Dwyane Wade. Arrivals: Jordan Clarkson, Larry Nance Jr., George Hill, Rodney Hood. Overall, I like it. Younger, more athletic, better find around LeBron, better without LeBron, still have the Brooklyn pick.

As long as they still have the Brooklyn pick. I don't like players like Isiah Thomas anyones. Too small, gunner, can't play defense.

My assumption is that it is just the reverse. Isaiah Thomas and Channing Frye presumably command more salary than Larry Nance, Jr. and Jordan Clarkson. Wasn't Jordan Clarkson on American Idol?

Danny Ainge be smiling somewhere. He made 2 incredible trades last year. Getting Kyri for IT, Crowder and Brooklyn pick.
Then, the Tatum/Fultz trade with a possible Sacrament 1st(Only protected 1st overall 2019.) Laker pick is now out of Top 5
unless C's get lucky in the lottery.

99.9999999% sure Cleveland kept the Brooklyn pick
you may be right...initial reports were that they put it in the Lakers trade but now seeing conflicting reports.

But Terry Pluto, the grand pubba of Cavs for the paper, just said:

The Cavs sent Isaiah Thomas and Channing Frye to the Los Angeles Lakers for Larry Nance Jr. and Jordan Clarkson. The Lakers also got the Cavs 2018 first-round pick in the deal.

^ This is correct. They made all these moves without parting with the Brooklyn pick. They traded their first round pick. So basically they lost a pick that would land somewhere in the 30’s. My guess is. Not a big loss at all.

You have it backward. salary dump for Lakers, as Thomas and Fry are FA's after the season. Both clarkson and nance are under contract. too bad they could not have thrown in luol deng...

you are correct....I thought the Cavs couldn't trade their #1 because they traded last year's and you can't trade your #1 in back to back years...but if they have a first round pick, that satisfies that issue.

Right now, the traded pick looks like it is #25 or so. Cavs pick, from Brooklyn, looks like a top ten pick...big difference.

Unless making sure LeBron is all on board and going with his "wish" of new players? for next season...?

Maybe Larry Nance Sr can come back on a 10-day contract so CLE can do a family night promotion

Turns out I was incorrect in that assumption. Isaiah Thomas' and Channing Frye's contracts are both apparently expiring. Clarkson's contract apparently has two years to go at $13MM per, and I'm not sure what Nance's contract pays, but I do not believe it is expiring. Makes it even harder to understand why the Cavs did this deal. They would have had to pay Thomas a lot more in a new contract in order to keep him around, but they obviously did not feel he was worth the cost. Something changed since the Cavs' trade with Boston. Thomas made THAT big of a negative impression in the few games that he has played for the Cavs?

Clarkson is committed through the the 19/20 season. He is an unrestricted FA from there. Nance is also committed through the 19/20 season, and is a "restricted" free agent (which means, Cavs can match any offer regardless of cap space, which means he'll be a Cav for at least five years if they want him).
