Wow....

Before we even think of 4 undefeated years, just having 3 undefeated years is insanely rare. Until Zain did it, Cael might have been the last. (Though Yianni and Spencer could this year.)

Dake didn't do it. Stieber didn't. Snyder didn't. Cox didn't. Dieringer didn't. Ruth didn't. Nickal didn't. Nolf didn't (though that was bad luck with the injury default). Martinez was on his way, until Nolf and Cenzo. Etc.

Pretty sure Zain and Spencer wrestled as true freshman but did Yianni also?? Sometimes I wonder if they RS if they woulda been undefeated 4xer….

Yes, Yianni wrestled as a true frosh. Ivy League doesn't allow redshirts although a number of Cornell wrestlers have greyshirted by going to the local Community College for a year.

Spencer lost 3 matches his first year and 2 his second. Unless we’re counting 3-0 last year or 12-0 in the covid shortened year before that as undefeated seasons, he’s not making three.

The year Covid cancelled Nats Spencer was undefeated. The Covid shortened year, he was undefeated. If he goes undefeated this year that makes three. It’s not his fault Covid allowed him to only wrestle 12 matches, and miss Nats. You can only wrestle what’s on the schedule.

While everything you say is true.........that nothing that occurred was Spencer's fault.........you also cannot criticize or ignore the fact that he only wrestled 3 matches one year and 12 the other. Those are facts. Facts can be interpreted differently by every individual. I am a huge Spencer fan for a lot of reasons......BUT.........I will not argue when someone points out facts that lead them to a different conclusion about said facts. It literally is what it is.

I didn’t include last year in my response. Those three wins to me are irrelevant to the argument.

Everyone wrestled a shortened season the year Spencer only wrestled 12 matches. Heck the ivy’s didn’t even wrestle.

My entire point, was that Mcpat was incorrect in saying Spencer won’t have three consecutive years being undefeated should he be unbeaten this year. I believe he simply forgot about the year. Covid caused cancellation of Nationals. It was a correction not an argument.

But would you really count the year where Covid canceled the championships? I don't think thats really a true undefeated season without having a championship. Throw out the 3-0 injury year and you're left with 2021 and potentially this season.

I counted the 12-0 year. Lee missed 1 dual but otherwise wrestled every match he was allowed to (and finished with more matches than Murin, who didn't miss any duals).

Not his fault that he wasn't allowed to wrestle a normal slate. Likewise am not holding Aaon Brooks' 14-0 year against him.

I’m sure he didn’t want that championship to be cancelled. He was phenomenal that year.

You can only wrestler what the schedule dictates. He didn’t lose that year, that year he was undefeated.

The conversation was about a wrestler being unbeaten three years in a row. Spence hasn’t lost in quite some time. I’m not sure it’s fair to move the goal post because the sport dictated that there wasn’t a a tournament in March and that every school would wrestle an abbreviated schedule.

I checked out wrestle stat just to make sure I wasn’t mis-remembering. Below is what they have listed. Just records below and no rankings, I know how you guys get with the wrestle stat rankings sometimes haha.

2020 Spencer was 18-0. This is the year Mcpat left out, the cancelled March season. 2021 he was 12-0, the abbreviated schedule season. This upcoming season should be go undefeated it would be three years in a row.

If you counted the 12-0 season I didn’t see it. I agree it should be counted. I think my initial response was to Mcpat, he did not mention the 2020 cancelled March. season.

All of this is hypothetical, and relies on Spencer going undefeated this year. Which I’m assuming he will. I’ve heard that he’s feeling really good and wants to wrestle close to a full season. Which is awesome for the sport, wrestling fans, and especially a hopefully healthy all year Spencer tech fall Lee.

I totally get your argument. It's just hard to compare a season without a championship. After all, once upon a time a certain Cyclone wrestler was a sure thing to win 3 in a row.

It's easier to state SLee got [will get?] his three because he got an extra year. None of the others listed had that benefit, including the probably soon-to-be Yanni.
